The learning styles quiz was very helpful and will probably prove to be helpful for the rest of my college career. Understanding how you learn and the best way for you to retain the information you are given is key to being learning the material and being a successful student. Especially as a freshman in college everything is taken to such a higher level and there are much higher expectations than in high school. This quiz allowed me to realize in which ways I will be the most successful when it comes to learning and retaining information, especially as an engineering student. Between being an active and a reflective learner my results were pretty close, but I did relate a little more to the active side. This could help me as an engineering …show more content…
I am definitely more of a verbal learner. I like to take what is being said and interpret it and roll it over in my mind until I understand fully what is trying to be taught. This will be helpful when doing group projects and listening to the professor trying to understand everything they are trying to relay to my mind. I can use this to teach others which in the act will also teach me. Once I understand the concept that is being taught I can then put it into action as far as projects and whatever else I have to relate it to. The last was sequential and global. There is no doubt I am more of a sequential learner. I believe that there are steps to the problem. This will be effective as an engineering student so when problems arise I can take myself through a process step by step to gain results and insights along the way. When learning the material, I can make sure I understand everything that is being covered so I can understand the whole big idea. This will be very effective when big projects or plans come into play no important steps will be missed and it can help me be a more effective resource to others. Applying these results will definitely help me be successful as an engineering student. Realizing and knowing my own strengths and weaknesses can help me be successful as well as help me to help others be successful. Engineering isn’t an easy major and having the right skills and techniques can be what sets your success apart from someone
When we did the Learning Styles: Modality Preference Inventory worksheet, I scored a 23 in Visual, a 16 in Auditory, and a 23 in Kinesthetic/Tactile. For me, I always had to write things down in order to even come close to remembering it. I also had to actually do what was being done to understand. I always seemed to be both a visual and hands on type of person.
People learn in various ways and at different rates, some learn much from reading and could be considered a visual learner whilst others find it difficult to get anything from reading and prefer to listen, possibly to others explaining, an auditory learner or perhaps they learn from doing practically and could be regarded as kinetic learners, but whichever way we prefer to learn to be effective the learning cycle must be fully completed. We go through an experience, think about what happened, reach some conclusions and put them into practice.
According to my my results after taking my LCI quiz I am a Dynamic Learner. In Sequence my score is 22 ( as needed), my score in Precise is 26 ( use first), my Technical score is 22 (as needed) and my Confluent score is 25(use first). I always thought that I was Strong Willed but after reading my results and what it meant, I am almost there but not quite.
To help me identify my own learning style(s) and that of a member of my team, I used the
I feel like I learn best through repetition. I often spend my free time re-reading material from class to better understand it.
Whether you believe learning styles are a myth or fact they still can help you learn the material for class. Just because you take this test online and it says that you are one hundred percent auditory learner doesn’t mean you can’t learn other ways. Learning styles can help you discover more creative ways for you to remember a topic or specific details. How Amy made a poster it helped her present her topic but also helped her learn and remember her topic. By writing it down and being creative you will remember the topic a lot better. I’m not a firm believer in learning styles but I do think that they can help. I am an auditory learner so listening helps me learn although it isn’t the only way I can learn. One of the ken talks we had watched
I have two learning styles that tied. It would be thinking and watching. I knew I was a visual learner but found more about myself that I have imagined. I learned that I like to think while learning and analyzing what is being taught. I am very much a visual learner, when I am in a classroom setting I need to see what we are doing not just a lecture. When its just a lecture my mind wanders and I do not get what was being taught. I only wished more instructors/teachers taught visually. I know this is a weakness of mine so I am going to work on this the best to my ability. This was a very awesome assignment to do I think it helps me understand myself better and I can also, understand others as well better.
According to the Felder and Soloman Learning Styles inventory, I am an Active-Intuitive-Visual-Sequential Learner. However, none of my results were particularly radicalized as I scored 1-3 across all the dimensions meaning that I’m impartial to a specific learning strategy.
The way I learn is depending on the style of learning.I am mostly a visual and a tactile learner. As a visual learner I like mostly to read or see how its done.If I need anything explained I like to see a picture or imagine it how its suppose to be.When I want to take notes I need to see the board as notes written on it or a presntation explaning either steps or diractions or notes this will give me a better understanding. As a visual learner I like my things very organized and marked by any color or labeled or else it will make me feel very confused and irritated. An example of a visual learner if i need to get directions to a place i need things to be explained and descriped to me this way I can make it to the place i need to go to. After taking the inventories and looking at the results, I believe the following. I believe that the inventories may not be one hundred percent accurate; however, they may pick up on tendencies that are accurate. Before taking the assessments, I believed that I was a visual and a kinesthetic or hands on learner. I thought that I was a more hands on or kinesthetic learner and I would have thought that visual was my second learning preference. Upon reading the results of the inventories, I found that visual learning may be a stronger learning preference. I believe that these inventories are pretty true to my learning style preferences.
My official results are: 28% visual, 50% auditory, and 22% tactile. I was surprised at first on my results. I didn’t think about how much I do like to study something before doing it. In doing a self assessment I missed the part where I am big on theory first. Looking back I looked up the
Looking at these learning styles, I am a Multimodal learner according to my VARK result test. With several methods of learning, this employs diverse ways to help me memorize and understand what I’ve learned much better by changing between different learning styles that any teacher might use to teach because, I like numerous ways of absorbing information.
My preferred learning style is auditory. I can use mnemonic devices, such as flash cards with audio to my advantage in school. The repetition of the flash cards would help me in science where there is lots of information to remember. Reading the information, text, stories, assignments, out loud would help me to fully understand the context. I can also read my drafting work out loud, so that it is less likely to miss any errors. During class, I can ask my teacher more questions or to explain certain concepts.
I like to take my time with material, but am not always given the allotted time to do so. I also like to keep a written list of things to do to refer to. I am comfortable with my learning style, accepted it as my very own. I am not sure if changing it this late in life is such a good idea. I have got by this far, it must work out for me.
I agree with the results of this test, I best complete assignments when I have a set list of guidelines or rules on how to complete something and that appeals to my logical thinking. When I am taught something that is more physical I learn it best by attempting to do it myself, hands on. With the last learning type, I feel more confident about something when there is an actual person presenting information to me rather than a computer program teaching me something or reading it straight out of a book. I feel like that human interaction helps me better understand a concept because it is easier to communicate ideas to one another that way.
