The recognition and accommodation of the diverse learning styles exhibited by team members can lead to improved interaction and greater synergy online or face-to-face. The most commonly recognized learning styles are derived from the main sense used for sensory input. Commonly, the three most pertinent and all-encompassing learning styles are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. If the learning styles can be properly identified and accommodated in both the face-to-face and online environments, the result will be greatly empowered people and more effective teams.

The online application of the auditory learning style in an academic situation requires the learner to be creative in his assimilation of information since the opportunity for direct auditory learning is minimal. Perhaps the off-line interaction between the learner and others in social or familial settings can supplant his need for discussion. Whether you believe learning styles are a myth or fact they still can help you learn the material for class. Just because you take this test online and it says that you are one hundred percent auditory learner doesn’t mean you can’t learn other ways. Learning styles can help you discover more creative ways for you to remember a topic or specific details. How Amy made a poster it helped her present her topic but also helped her learn and remember her topic. By writing it down and being creative you will remember the topic a lot better. On the other hand the learning style I use the least is auditory. With auditory learners you learn best through hearing and listening. I can say I agree with this, honestly when it comes to lecture based classes I find myself thinking about something different or thinking how I can teach myself when I get home in a different way. Auditory learners like to listen, so when studying they read their flashcards or notes out loud versus me who has to see the card and try to think back of what I did with my hands that will help me remember

i. Understanding the learners learning styles can make my course to be engaging. Flemming (1987) noted three different styles of learning; visual, kinaesthetic and aural. In order to know which method(s) to use to benefit my students the first lesson on my course will centre around discussions on what they already know, the resources they are familiar with, and a learning style questionnaire which will provide me with information on preferred learning styles. Effectiveness can also be enhanced if I adapt my teaching style to give maximum benefit to learners.

Based on the studies and information regarding learning preferences, the question is then posed, does teaching strategy need to align with a students learning preference in order to be most effective for learning? The answer to this question according to studies is yes. Every student is different, and learns at a different pace, using different strategies, and have different levels of readiness, interest and motivation. (Gardner 2001) According to Howard Gardner, a Harvard educated developmental psychologist, as teachers, we need to employ multiple teaching modalities for optimal student learning.
