The Neglected Child In the novella, Leaving Gilead by Pat Carr, she introduces us to the Birdsong family. The father, Ian is off fighting in the Civil War and Geneva, his wife, is at home with their 8-year old daughter, Saranell. Death can be traumatizing for the people who are experiencing it in their lives, but being emotionally unstable can affect the people around them. ‘It is better to lose a parent through death then through emotional abandonment. “Since I have this wretched cold, and since your father’s the one who enjoys holidays and he's nowhere in sight, I'm not going to wear myself out with Christmas this year… her pale hand shooed Saranell into the hall. Go make those paper flowers of yours and have one of the servants bring in the tree if you want, but I've got to save what little strength I have”(Carr 93). Geneva was unwilling to help her only daughter decorate their house for Christmas, she wanted nothing involved with her 8-year old child. Geneva was at a state where she could not get out of the bed due to her in denial mindset. Saranell was heartbroken that her mother was “sick” and wasn't going to assist her to decorate, as she could see by her mother’s actions. Geneva couldn't cope with her problems or the struggle she was facing. Geneva wouldn't admit them and this caused her to take her feelings out on Saranell. “I can't stay on this dull house another minute. And I refuse to miss one more holiday party” (Carr 95). Both men, McMurphy and Luke were turned into examples, much like Jesus Christ and left behind a legacy. Luke at the prison was cool without a doubt, motivating all the prisoners to follow his lead which attracted attention of the authority who believed that Luke had to be dealt with since he was getting out of line and also taking the other prisoners with him 'Thats my darling luke, grins like a baby bites like a gator' we see here in this qoute that dragline was one of many whose heart Luke won, dragline calls him 'darling' which shows how much luke is loved by his fellow prisoners and what a huge impact he has had on their personality. When McMurphy started popping the bubbles of the 'rabbits', making them realize that they had been ripped
Family leaves the deepest wounds. Whether a parent or a great-aunt’s step-child; family should love and support no matter what, so naturally arguments and conflicts within families leave harsher scars. Families shape one’s relationship with everyone – siblings, friends, and superiors. In Jim Grimsley’s Winter Birds, the narrator conveys his attitude towards his family as protective, despite disapproval through his use of figurative language, and a second person point of view.

In Ken Kesey’s novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, an individual’s capacity for self-sacrifice is affected by compelling circumstances. The novel follows the experiences of Chief Bromden and his fellow patients within a psychiatric hospital ruled by an authoritarian Nurse Ratched, who imposes strict rules within the facility in order to maintain stability. The novel is centred on Randle McMurphy’s and Nurse Ratched’s rivalry caused by their polar opposite views on how the institute should be run. McMurphy, a boisterous patient, believes that his fellow patients should have more freedom, on the other hand Nurse Ratched believes in the institution being run like a dictatorship where discipline is the important aspect for stability.
Our first character, Faber, from the novel, Fahrenheit 451, discusses the importance of integrity of oneself. Faber was an English professor that valued the community being literate, he had shown his integrity to continue teaching the community the ability to read through Montag setting up the plan to frame the firefighters. In the novel written by Bradbury, the character, Faber expresses to another character, Montag,"No, no, it's not books at all you're looking for! Take it where you can find it, in old phonograph records, old motion pictures, and in old friends; look for it in nature and look for it in yourself. Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget. There is nothing magical
Wayne Dyer once said, “ If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Guy Montag learns that when he looks deep inside himself, he finds something that is unexpected. In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, there are some obvious differences but if you look deeper you can see some darker differences.
Every day we see people avoiding others, and caring less about the things that matter. Guy Montag and his wife, as well as most other people in Fahrenheit 451 display these traits, and seem to act like their life has no purpose. If we continue to stray farther from social interaction and continue to rely more and more on technology, we will live in a future much like the one Bradbury predicts. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury shows us a frightening future through the way he creates the characters and the way they act. These include a lack of compassion and social interaction. The effect these traits have on the society are devastating in today’s standards.

When people are creative most of the time it is seen as unique or special. A person does not necessarily think that their creativity would make them stand out in a “bad way” due to their living situations. If you find yourself living in a gloomy society then you would think that being creative and different would bring hope back to the society. All of this describes the character Clarisse in the book Fahrenheit 451. In the novel, Clarisse is a unique character who represents the profound effects of creativity in an oppressive society.
It was a warm sunny day in April and I was getting ready to go out, however I remembered that I previously turned the tv off I saw the weather report. It claimed that it was going to rain at 3:00 pm so I brought a raincoat. When my family and I left at 2:00 pm it started to drizzle and when we were 10 minutes from where we were supposed to be it started to rain heavily and there was much more traffic. We were 20 minutes late and we had to run into the restaurant because the rain got even worse but I was the only person who had a raincoat on. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray bradbury the theme is that knowledge can prepare us for the future, just like in the story. In Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag, who didn't know his job as a fireman was dishonorable until Clarisse McClellan his new neighbor was talking about it which makes him curious, but nonetheless he brought it up to one of his coworkers Captain Beatty, she absolutely utterly disagreed with what he had to contribute. As a result, Montag started collecting books from where he put out fires because he was curious and started to tell his wife about it as well because he wanted to know more about his job and how it doesn’t benefit the people that he helps. Captain Beatty found out about what he was doing and got enraged, so she wanted to burn his house down and get him arrested. He then killed Beatty and ran to his friend Faber for help about what Guy Montag had just finished.
