Lebron James: NBA Genius

One can think Irving is nuts for wanting to leave James, yet understand his position as well. At 25, he’s already got a ring. And there is no doubt that playing with James is hard. Entire franchises bend like palm fronds in a gale to his every wish and desire. Things are done his way, all the time, every day. He’s not wrong to ask, because until last year, when Irving rose up over Stephen Curry in the last minute of Game 7, no one in wine and gold had done anything championship worthy other than him.

In the NBA James has twelve years of experience. He started off playing for the Cavaliers then went to the Heat, and he finally went back to the cavaliers. His number is 23 for the Cavaliers and 6 for the Heat. James has two gold medals and one bronze metal. James is six foot eight and he weighs two hundred fifty one pounds.

It was not very surprising that the Cavaliers were jumping at the bit and selected LeBron (Hill 25).However, “Observers wondered how (the Cleveland Cavaliers) would handle the Heralded Rookie” (“LeBron James” 3). Playing with the Cavaliers was not bare of exhilaration events. He became the youngest person to score more than forty points and later broke his own record by scoring fifty-six (“LeBron James” 5). Yet again, a period of time passes where the Cavaliers had a multitude of decisive victories and a few defeats, and LeBron once more found himself participating in a very prestigious event. He was in the 2008 Olympics. He and his team were able to deliver a victory for the U.S. by winning the gold medal for basketball (“LeBron James” 4). Next was a staggering moment for the everybody involved with the Cavaliers. Lebron decided to leave the Cavaliers and become a free agent after the 2009-2010 season. He eventually chose to join the Miami Heat (“LeBron James” 5). Things still weren’t slowing down for LeBron, he had his first son, LeBron James Jr., on June 4, 2004 (Hill 34). Roughly 3 years later on June 11, 2007, LeBron’s second son, Bryce Maximus James, was born (Hill 42). The road that LeBron, along with the Miami Heat, took led them to competing in the NBA championship. LeBron and the Miami Heat achieved champion status by winning the event (Hill 100-101). LeBron James calls himself King James because he has won 4 MVP’s throughout his NBA career, and he is very dedicated and a very great leader to all of his games as well as his teammates. As I observed the 2015 Finals, LeBron James played the hardest out of each player on his team as well as the opposing team. James did not have a lot of help going against a strong team like the Warriors because two of the starting players from the Cavaliers got injured and had to sit out for the rest of the season. Kevin Love got injured way before the finals took place, and Kyrie Irving got injured during game one against the Warriors. But many NBA analysts also agree that Michael Jordan needed way more help to win championships than Lebron. He played with 2 Hall of Famers and struggled when they were not there. In fact when he came back to the Bulls, they actually won less games than the season before that. And failed to make the championship with him. He was also referred by many teammates and coaches as selfish and not always the best teammate. LeBron James is a well known basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers who was born on December 30, 1984. He acquired three NBA championships in 2012, 2013, and 2016, four NBA Most Valuable Player Awards in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013, three NBA Finals MVP Awards in 2012, 2013, and 2016, two Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012, one NBA scoring title in 2008, and one NBA Rookie of the Year Award in 2004. LeBron was accepted into twelve NBA All-Star teams, twelve All-NBA teams, six All-Defensive teams, and continues to be the Cavaliers' all-time leading scorer. Under his command, the Cavaliers won the NBA Finals facing the Golden State Warriors in 2016 to end Cleveland's fifty-two year professional sports title drought.

He’s had fans in Cleveland since he was a rising star in high school and was drafted straight to the NBA by the Cavaliers and by then everyone in Ohio knew who James was. When James was in Cleveland for his first seven years he turned the Cavaliers from a mediocre team with hardly any arena attendance to championship contenders with sold-out crowds. His owner that had the audacity to talk poorly about James was making the most money off of James not to mention that Cleveland’s economy took a huge jump pouring in millions of dollars per year (Groves). Now that the man Cleveland once loved is coming back he’s predicted to restore his Cleveland fans faster than he lost them. They know James as the superstar he is, including his unselfish play style that has shown off the court as he’s thinking more about Cleveland with this decision rather than himself (Lariviere). He has realized that his relationship with Ohio is “bigger than basketball” and made the decision through that perspective (Cohen). To be able to keep composure and focus on one shot under those types of conditions is not an easy task. Amazingly, he made clutch shots time and time again for the Bulls. Being able to think and react in highly pressured situations for James on the other hand, has not been accomplished. I have seen James, with the ball in the final seconds of the game, and he was unable to hit the winning shot. You can see the pressure all over his face. He does not have the ability to plan and if necessary, counter plan under extreme conditions. A good example is in this past year’s Olympics he clearly did not play like a champion. When the team was down, he didn’t try to take the game over like a champion would.

Lebron James, the first pick taken in this year’s draft, may be the prototype for an athlete having immediate fame and wealth by jumping straight to the NBA. Almost undoubtedly, he has set the bar for years to come. Before he even played in an actual NBA game, he already had his own commercial and shoe deals. When he was a senior in high school, ESPN and ESPN2 were already publicizing his regular season games whenever they had the chance. Amazingly, as a junior in high school, he was already being considered the next Michael Jordan (Broussard).

The 52-year drought is officially over. LeBron James finally brought a championship to Cleveland and in dominating fashion. Behind, the heroics of James, the Cleveland Cavaliers were able to accomplish what no other team has done. The Golden State Warriors seemed as if they were destined for a repeat leading the series 3-1 and will likely cap off their historic season. The criticism instantly began towards James. It wasn't anything he hasn't heard before.

Of the three major sports teams in Cleveland, Ohio, the Cleveland Cavalier, for they joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the early 1970. The Cavaliers had a very rocky start with the first 15 years being a losing season, after losing season. While some fans blamed the owner at the time, as he had no clue what he wanted to do with the team. But in 1988 the Cavaliers put together a rather good team, that made it to the playoff. During the first round of the playoff the Cavaliers played the Chicago Bulls in the best of five series. In the 5th game the Cavaliers were leading with only second to go in the game, but as with other teams in Cleveland, it would happen again, Michael Jordon would hit a basket with only 2 seconds left on the clock, this basket would be known as the “shot”, as this is a common theme for Cleveland fans, that all heartbreaking plays are given a name. Again, after the 1988 season the Cavaliers would only have mediocre seasons until after the 2003 draft, as a hometown boy from Akron, Ohio, named LeBron James, was graduating from high school, although the Cavaliers were not guaranteed that they would have the first draft pick to sign James, but as fate would have it, the Cavs, ended up winning the draft lottery and signed this young man to play for the Cavaliers. One of the greatest things about Jordan was the legacy that he left on the NBA when he retired. After the Chicago Bulls retired his jersey, the Number 23 has been made legendary in basketball because of Jordan. When people like Lebron try to wear Jordan’s number, people will always see him living in Jordan's shadow. His shoes are still one of the highest selling shoes. Who wouldn't want to wear the shoes of the greatest basketball player of all time? If you ask a random person if they know who Michael Jordan is, it is very likely they will know who he was, what team he played for, what his number was, and that he was the greatest basketball player of all time. Not too many people in the history of sports have that kind of reputation around the world.

LeBron James is similar to Magic Johnson. He did want to be a football player but he found something new.He wanted to play basketball. He used to make free throws by dunking them, causing the NCAA to make them change the rules.

Imagine you are in the stands of a Miami Heat game watching the greatest player of the game Lebron James play. One minute you see in chasing down a defender to block him. Then next you see him running a fast break down the court flying through the air. Are you thinking that could be MJ? The answer would be no, because according to Lebron he is not MJ he is LJ.
