Many people think it is a good idea to change the driving age from 16 to 18. They think it would reduce crashes and stress on parents. They also think it would help out parents that has jobs. However, I believe raising the minimum driving age from 16 to 18 is good because some people has a job, some have sports, and some people are responsible.

There are about 2,000,000 sixteen year old drivers in United States, meaning that almost 2,000,000 million people depend on the current driving age for many things. Having a license at age 16 gives that person opportunities they wouldn’t be able to have without the freedom a car gives, such as getting a job that could help their family, driving themselves to school or sports practice if their parents can’t or being able to see their friends when they want. Having your license at 16 also gives teens a taste of independence and responsibility. The driving age has to stay at sixteen because teens and families depend on it for many things and it introduces a sense of responsibility for the teen.

The current driving age of sixteen is implemented in almost every state in the United States. Most states have become accustomed to the current driving age, but recently there are certain states that believe that the legal driving age should be raised due to various reasons. The main argument for most states is that sixteen-year old’s are not mature enough and lack the preparation to handle the responsibility to drive safely. Teenagers under the age of eighteen should be required to wait longer to get their license and should be more prepared before getting their license.

Should people be driving at age 16? I think that they should and here’s the reason why. The reason that they have so many accidents is because they don’t have that much experience. The number of age doesn’t mean nothing, and all your doing is identifying the age of the driver. There are many things that people consider to reduce teen accidents.

The adult age should be 16 because teens will start to decide if they will be accountable for their decisions. Teens should know they are an adult at this age because if they don't they won’t know that they should be responsible on the roads or that they could cause serious damage for others if they crash. By them putting restrictions on the drivers, but not raising the age they believe that the 16 year old drivers can be responsible under restrictions. “Many states have begun to raise the age by imposing restrictions on 16-year-old drivers.” (Robert Davis Pg. 248.) This is important because no matter what restrictions are put on teen drivers, they still need to know how to drive in emergencies or just in everyday life. This proves my claim because people need to give teens a chance before raising the age.

Should the minimum driving age be raised? In the article Traffic Safety Facts the NHTSA states that, 5,864 15 - 20 year old drivers were involved in fatal crashes in 2008, which is a 27% decrease from the crashes in 1998. This is still a big number, and has been tried to be reduced by New Jersey, but ended up not doing much, and instead added and increase of car crashes to an older age group. The minimum driving age should not be raised to allow teens to gain experience, learn responsibility, while staying safe altogether.

The big debate as to whether the legal driving age should be raised to eighteen is an ongoing issue. There are both arguments for and against this matter. Younger drivers, as well as old ones, can cause many life-threatening accidents; therefore, raising the minimum driving age could significantly reduce the number of accidents. The accident rates can be lowered considerably if the legal driving age is bumped up to eighteen. This would mean that no more kids could get hurt or worse, killed in a car accident.

People under the age of 18 should not be allowed to drive and therefore the legal age of driving (age of 16) should be raised to the age of 18. A study by the National Institutes of Health proclaimed that the brain of a 16 year old is less mature than the brain of a teen older than the age of 18 so that explains why 16 year olds are 3 times more likely to be caught in disastrous vehicle accidents than older drivers. Busy parents, a busy young adult life, and mature teens are why the legal driving age should not be raised to the minimum age of eighteen. Sixteen is a traditional milestone in a teens life, why would one want to take that tradition away? All the opportunities sixteen year olds receive driving would be ruined if the driving age is changes to eighteen, which could also ruin a teens future. Driving is an American rite of passage and the system for it is fine just the way it is. Let’s keep the age sixteen sweet and leave the legal driving age
