Nowadays marijuana is not only sweeping the nation; it has become a worldwide sensation, and it is making appearances everywhere on the globe. Marijuana is the most commonly abused illegal in the US and around the world. No matter how one looks at the combination of words marijuana, depressant or hallucinogen, there is no positive projected outcome or connotation. If it is true that a depressant reduces functional and nervous activity and a hallucinogen causes perception-altering hallucinations, then Marijuana is a drug that causes hallucinations, while reducing motor and sensory activity, essentially leaving the user a dysfunctional, temporary victim of Panic and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Uruguay was one of the first countries to legalize Marijuana, and they are now suffering from the conflicts that have awakened since the legalization of the drug. Cartels in these South American countries see the legalization of Marijuana as a “pathway for legalization of other drugs,” promising that “buyers will receive the best quality drug” (Cave). The reality is, these cartels “are just trying to make as much money as they can,” using the legalization of marijuana to expand their territory and power while staying under the radar; these cartels pose a major threat to society due to their influences and power over communities all over the world …show more content…
To be more specific,” Delta-9-THC and Delta-8-THC are the only compounds in the marijuana plant that produce all the psychoactive effects of marijuana” (Institute of Medicine). Cannabidiol, on the other hand, is less well known (though it accounts for 40% of the plant) and actually has a wider scope of medical applications than THC. Cannabidiol is where the real medicinal value of Marijuana comes from; “the problem is growers realized decades ago that THC is what sells; it provides the floating, euphoric feeling people associate with marijuana” (Giddingson). So if Cannabidiol is extractable and already exists as its own form of medication, why is there a need for this so called Medical Marijuana? The ugly truth is that Medical Marijuana is used more for the euphoric high than it is for the medicinal value. If medication is what people were actually fighting for, then there would be more arguments and advocates for Cannabidiol than for Medical
The legalization of the drug marijuana is a hot topic nowadays. Many people want this substance to be legalized and regularly available like cigarettes. But what some people do not know are the serious health risks involved when using marijuana. There is a lot more to marijuana than just smoking it.
Marijuana or Cannabis is a hallucinogenic drug that contains a very high amount of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It can be used for both medical and recreational reasons, but it is currently illegal in most states in this country. This drug has been illegal for the majority of this country's history, and just recently several states like Washington, California, and New York have passed laws so that people with medical issues are able to consume this drug for their own medical needs
According to the United Nations, “158.8 million people around the world use marijuana—more than 3.8% of the planet’s population” (Marijuana). Marijuana has become a crucial topic throughout the world in recent years. Marijuana has been legalized medically throughout many countries, such as Australia, Chile, Spain, and Uruguay. Within the United States of America, twenty-eight states have legalized marijuana for medicinal use, the most recent legalization passed was in the state of Florida. Therefore, one can assert that medical marijuana is a controversial topic locally and globally. Medical marijuana portrays many advantages and disadvantages within society. Medical marijuana portrays many benefits to victims of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,
The two main cannabinoids in Cannabis are THC and CBD and both have been scientifically proven as well as FDA approved to provide several medical benefits that assist in the argument in legalizing medical marijuana. According to an article on drugabuse.gov, “THC increases appetite and reduces nausea and may also decrease pain, inflammation, and muscle control problems. CBD is a cannabinoid that may be useful in reducing pain and inflammation, controlling epileptic seizures, and possibly even treating mental illness and addictions.” These two main cannabinoids have been proven to provide patients with several medical benefits that other drugs cannot provide and that may not be safe or have safe side-effects. Since medical marijuana has so many medical benefits that it can provide as a benefit to so many patients, including cancer patients, by killing certain cancer cells and slowing its growth down then it would only be fair to legalize it throughout the United States for the sake of every patient’s health (drugabuse.gov). As stated before, medical marijuana is also a safer alternative to a variety of other drugs which is another reason as to why it should be
The legalization of recreational marijuana is an important debate, one that could really cause drastic changes in societies. Marijuana has entered a dark stage in the pathway of legalization, and it is correlating with the prohibition stage that alcohol rested in. The debate can often reach a nasty level between individuals taking sides with the topic. Legalization of marijuana can be very beneficial under regulated circumstances, therefore making all of the negative views less important.
individuals believe that the United States would need somewhere between “… 4 to 10 times
Marijuana is the people’s drug of choice; it’s the most popular drug of all the drugs. Made famous in movies (Cheech and Chong), hit an all-time boom in the 60’s when smoke to rebel against law enforcement. It is popular even though it is illegal in the United States; I explain in this paper why we should take advantage of its popularity and help our struggling economy. How we can use the way Amsterdam regulates its recreational marijuana, and implement it in the United States. Violence will drop dramatically especially in the towns close to the Mexican border. These are more than enough reasons as to why we should legalize marijuana, there is nothing but benefits.
Recent laws that regulate marijuana have been a hot topic of debate. On on eland, people argue that legalizing marijuana will result in more use of the drug and crime. On the other hand, people who favor marijuana reform laws suggest that marijuana actually improves health and decreases crime rates. This topic caught my attention because as a college student in an urban area, marijuana use is very prevalent. Although marijuana is illegal, it is still bought and sold on a regular basis underground or on the black market. In these circumstances, crime rate continues to rise. Therefore, my purpose is to compare crime rates in places where marijuana is legal, such as Colorado and Washington, to places that marijuana has yet to be legalized.
Out of all 50 states, 23 of them have legalized the use of medical marijuana, including our capital, Washington D.C..With that being said, I believe that marijuana, medical and recreational, should be decriminalized nationwide. The United States is in tremendous debt as a result of our own mistakes, and offering our help to other countries. If marijuana were legal in all 50 states, and were taxed to the benefit of surpassing our debt, we would become increasingly financially stable.
Marijuana is a very popular drug that many people have used. Over 98 million people over the age of 12 in the United States have smoked marijuana. It is known under many different names such as: weed, bud, ganja, hashish, doobie, reefer, mary-jane and grass. It plays quite a substantial role in modern day pop culture and almost everyone over the age of 16 knows what it is. Despite all this, marijuana is illegal and in most states a person can be sent to jail for the possession of less than a gram of this substance. Even if the person is doing nothing wrong and is subjected to a random search, if that person has marijuana on them, they will be charged with a criminal offense and sent to jail. Marijuana should be legalized because it can

In the United States of America it is illegal to sell, possess or use marijuana. In the United States of America it is legal to sell, possess and use marijuana. So which is it? Illegal or legal? The answer is both. The subject of marijuana is a current widespread, ever evolving hot topic of debate with seemingly opposing Federal and State laws.
A major worry is that decriminalization will produce in more use of marijuana. Even with the criminalization marijuana, it is used by a massive percentage of the United States society. The most up-to-date national survey managed by the United States Government concluded that over 25 million people or approximately one out of ten citizens use marijuana at least once a year and over six percent of the population uses the drug monthly. The lifetime use projection of marijuana is a staggering 95 million, implicating that 47 percent of all adults have tried marijuana at least
A number of movements to legalize marijuana have been gaining attention lately. Currently there are 14 states where marijuana is legal for medical use (medicalmarijuana). 41% of U.S. citizens believe marijuana should be legalized (drugpolicy) but others are still concerned about health damage. American society has lost the war against marijuana, and that's okay. We should stop wasting time and money trying to reverse history and instead legalize both medical and recreational use of this mild narcotic widely seen as no more harmful than alcohol.
