For those of you that don’t know who I am, I am George Milton. I wouldn’t consider Lennie a friend, sorry, I mean he was much more than that to me. Before Lennie’s aunt Clara past away, I had made a promise to her that I would look after him, and ever since then I’ve spent every day with that fool, and yet I don’t regret a single moment. I must admit that Lennie wasn’t a very bright guy, but he was a big guy, with an even bigger heart, Lennie could do the work of three men without breaking a sweat, nor complaining. He would do anything I said, because he had a lot of trust in me. Lennie had so much trust in me that I once told him to jump into the river and he blindly did as I commanded. That big idiot almost drowned, and that’s when I realised …show more content…
I remember this one time our bunk mate slim’s dog had some pups, when he found out, he asked me to check with Slim, if he could have one. The good guy Slim is, said he could. One night we all went out to the town and left Lennie at the bunk. Lennie was so lonely that he decided to go play with his pup. The pup bit him, so Lennie smacked it on the nose, broke it and the pup died. Due to his obsession with soft fluffy things, Lenny’s aunt Clara would constantly get him mice and all he wanted to do all day was to just sit and pat the mice, but he always ended up killing them too, not just for fun, but for not knowing his own …show more content…
Grabbed it from him and then threw it across the lake, but Lennie was so upset that he went to go get it again. There is one thing I will cherish forever is how excited Lennie got was when I would describe the dream we had for our future: I always started with “guys like us that work on ranches, are the loneliness guys in the world, they got no family, and they don’t belong no place. They come to a range an’ work up a stake and then they go inta town and blow their stake, and the first you know they’re poundin’ their tail on some other ranch. They got nothing to look ahead too.” “that’s it, that’s it and tell how it is with us’ he would say excitedly “With us ain’t like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to, that gives a dam about us. And we don’t have to sit in no bar room blowin in out jack jus’ because we got no place else to go. If them other guys gets in jail they can rot for anybody gives a damn. “but not us! “Lennie would yell out” An’ why? … because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, but that’s
Lennie kills his puppy by petting it with such strength he strangles in, even after it died he “looked at the little
Lennie was told by Slim and George not to pet the puppy too much or it would die. Lennie had moved that thought aside and hadn't thought about it until after he did what he was told not to do.
George is basically your average guy and he has known Lennie for a long time and he knew Lennie’s aunt and he promised Lennie’s aunt that he would take care of Lennie and make sure nothing happened to him, Well George did this for a long time and well over the time he should have had to take care of Lennie and there are those times where you have to break a promise as long as it’s for the right reasons. And as said in the story by George “’if I didn’t have you at the end of the week I could take my fifty bucks and
Page 102: Lennie’s issues with abandonment make me sad as I can relate to him just a little. Instead of internalizing all of fears and the disappointment he is scared to receive for his actions, they being to haunt him. When George appears, he is really happy to see him because George makes him feels like he’s better than that, and takes the fear he has away and gives him the idea of a bright future, which is something a friend should
Lennie never does anything without the consent from George. He knows he has to listen to George, If he doesn't he knows he will end up in trouble like he did while picking weeds. In all the trouble that Lennie gets in, he doesn't do it on purpose. Lennie has a good heart and never means to hurt anyone. His mental disability causes all his action.
Strong friendships have the power to make people’s lives better. George and Lennie travel together and eventually live together, resulting in a strong bond between them. George cares for Lennie and he makes sure
Grass tickles my bare feet, and the sultry night air caresses my skin as I stand facing the forest. With the moon full and glistening over the dew covered greenery, I am enraptured. The gentle breeze wraps around me like a lovers embrace and I am lost to my surroundings. The nights are beginning to cool with the new season and are a welcomed relief to the waning summer heat.
“Lennie: I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that's why.”
Lennie is extremely large and powerful. But he is uncoordinated therefore his strength is not entirely under his control as a result of this he hurts many animals and people, for example the mice that aunty Clara gave him and the mouse in his pocket on the way to the ranch at the beginning of chapter one. Lennie is too powerful for the mice, as he pets them he scares and hurts the mice resulting in the mice biting him which makes him angry and resulting in him killing the mice. Likewise with Slims puppy, After Lennie killed the pup Curly’s wife saw it and asked him what had happened to the dog and he said” he was so little’’ I was jus’ playin’ with him….an’ he made like he was gonna bite
It’s been a few months since I’ve last seen and talked to you. It’s been a few months since Lennie died. That day Lennie died, the dream died, our future died. My life hasn’t been the same since. I remember saying to Lennie "Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don't belong no place. They come to a ranch an' work up a stake and then they go inta town and blow their stake, and the first thing you know they're poundin' their tail on some other ranch. They ain't got nothing to look ahead to." Now, I am one of those guys, I’m all alone. When I left the ranch I didn’t know where I was going, all I knew was that I had to get out. I went back to the scene of where I shot Lennie,
away anytime.’ ‘No look! I was just foolin Lennie. Cause I want you to stay with me’”
George was a good friend to Lennie because he cares for him. Lennie’s aunt died a while back and George promised her that he would take care of Lennie no matter what. George was not forced to watch over Lennie, he made a choice and stuck with it. Also, Lennie was holding a dead mouse and he was petting it. George saw and threw it across the pool. (page 6) He did that so Lennie wouldn’t get sick or a disease. Finally, George and Lennie went to work on a farm and there was a woman. She was a man named Curley’s wife. George had heard that she was trouble and told Lennie to stay away from her so that he wouldn’t get hurt.
George Milton is a hard- working man who travels beside Lennie, yet he would rather travel by himself. He would not have to worry about anyone but himself. He travels with Lennie, and we often find him telling Lennie how much better off he could be without him. One simple reaction to Lennie sets George off on a rant enough to say,
He is used to heavy work and can do a lot more physical labour than the average man. George is a character that looks after Lennie as he is mentally weak. They have built up a love for each other that has made their friendship as tight as a box. Lennie looks at the same dream from a different prospective.
He would yell at Lennie and tell him if he didnt have him he could go and do as he pleased. When in reality George did not want these things. He was greatful to have a friend in Lennie, so he would not have to be alone. With Lennie's simple mind, he could not comprehend what George was talking about most of the time. He believed that George got upset over simple things such as ketchup. He too was very thankful to have George to go along with. Although he did not understand the complexity of things sometimes, he knew that he had a true friend who he trusted wouldnt leave him.
