Leonardo Pisano commonly referred to as Fibonacci revolutionized education and economics by reviving ancient mathematics and creating his own theories (Stetson, University). Through some of his well known books are mathematical advancements and broken barriers in the world of mathematics. His desire to learn more and ability to travel led him to create important mathematical advancements that changed history forever (Henderson, H).
Leonardo Pisano was born in Italy somewhere between 1170-1175 and studied in North Africa. His father was a merchant who traveled around the world. During these trips he would often be accompanied by Fibonacci who even at a young age was amazed by the different mathematical institutions. During these trips he observed

Fibonacci numbers have applications in modern mathematics, and are often used in modern computer science. These numbers can create intricate patterns that reveal order hidden within systems that at first appear disorderly. This has lead some stock traders to use the sequence to find order within evolving stock values (O'Neill, Christopher). Similar practices have attempted to impose order on chaotic systems with the golden rectangle and golden spiral. In addition to proving useful in the solution of the rabbit problem, this sequence of numbers has come to have numerous other applications in a variety of other fields, shedding light on aspects of calculations dealing with processes including computers, finance banking, fractals, and biological models (McClenon, R. …show more content…
Without the Fibonacci sequence or Fibonacci numbers we would not be able to understand symmetry and spirals in Nature as in depth as we know today. We also would not be able to solve consecutive sequences with the quickness that we do so today. By developing the Fibonacci sequence and introducing Hindu-Arabic number systems and algebra theory to Europe, Leonardo Fibonacci had a far-reaching effect on the evolution of the study and application of mathematics in Western civilization (O'Neill, Christopher). If Fibonacci had not incorporated these elements in his book or theorems we would live in a completely different
The Pythagorean School, for example, contributed many ideas to the mathematic community, among them, studies of geometry and the theory of proof.5 Euclid also lived in the time of ancient Greece and became a prominent mathematician, as well as author of a book about geometry called, The Elements, considered the second best-selling book of all time.6 The works of Pythagoras and Euclid have become fundamental building blocks for any person with an eighth-grade understanding mathematics. With these advancements, as well as innovations from Archimedes and Apollonius of Perga, Islamic scholars translated their works and contributed even more, growing the worldwide understanding of mathematics.7 Greek progressions in geometry as well as the theory of proof contributed greatly to our ultimate understanding of contemporary mathematics, without which, our modern society would be
Humans possess a wide range of attributes and characteristics, of which one of the most funda- mental features is that of curiosity. This curiosity has led man to wonder, ponder and then learn. The curious nature of humans drives them to always try to find solutions to the puzzling mysteries behind their ideas and thereby ending up inventing and innovating, extending the boundaries of science and technology. Babylonians and Egyptians used arithmetic, algebra and geometry for taxation and other financial calculations, for building and construction, and for astronomy. To deal with the new dynamics that had arisen from the work of Sir Issac Newton and Galileo Galilei the creation and development of calculus was required. All of them made use of the fundamental tools and items at their disposal to achieve this, but would not have been successful without the one crucial tool - knowledge of mathematics. Mathematics is a language - the language of science and it comes as no surprise that mathematics is vitally important when explaining any phenomenon or scientific theory or proving scientific laws.
Mathematics has been a part of society ever since its began. Numerous great minds have contributed to the field but one of the most influential mathematicians was Leonardo da Vinci. Genius, renowned and ahead of his time, Leonardo Da Vinci has been called all of these from the time he began changing the world and still is to this day. I chose Leonardo da Vinci to as my scientist because of how progressive da Vinci was within his designs. The power of mathematics and da Vinci’s mind brought humanity amazing new things and ideas. Though Da Vinci is most known for his superior artistic talents, he was also an inventor that incorporated mathematics into designs that were hundreds of years ahead of their time. The invention of a battle tank, robots and diving suits are all accredited to Leonardo da Vinci.
Have you ever noticed the patterns in nature? Leaves alternating on a branch, or the stripes or spots on an animal? Scientists always look at our world and try to figure out how things come to be. Turns out, a 12th century mathematician taught scientists about the patterns in nature, while also making history with his numerical theories.
The 1920s was a very eventful time period for the US crime scene. With the emergences of major crime bosses like Al Capone, Meyer Lansky, Charles Luciano, and others there was much to be done in the crime world. Charles “Lucky” Luciano (born as Salvatore Lucania) would become a key player in the reshaping and modernization of the mafia and the crime world. Young Luciano would show signs of pursuing a criminal career. His parents and family however disapproved of their son’s action and career path and essentially exiled him, respecting his family’s wishes he would later change his name from Salvatore Lucania to Charles Luciano. He also by the age of 10 he involved extortion, and thievery. Upon his arrest for the distribution of drugs in 1915, the police would offered to release him if he would tell them what he knew about the mob, Luciano however refused to talk due to the Sicilian code of silence, this action would vastly considered pivotal in fast tracking his career in
Giovanni de Verrazano is the first explorer the area that is now called New York in 1524 and later by Henry Hudson and Samuel de Champlain in the early 1600's. At first it was settled by the Dutch in 1613. They named the colony New Netherland. During the next ten years, Dutch settlers established small colonies at Albany and other along the Hudson River.
In the womb of his mother's belly, getting an ultrasound, which is one of the many best sights in the world while having a baby, the parents hearts dropped when they saw what was going to happen to their child. The parents’ know that one day they would have to go back to the doctor to help them with this difficulty. Born with a child with a disorder or a disease is one the most devastating moments. Giovanni Cascio was born with a disease called arthrogryposis, a neuromusculoskeletal disorder that affects various joints in the body.
The Roaring twenties was a time of growth and prosperity. A time of groups making music inspiring and amazing people all over the nation. It was also a prosperous time for mobs and gangsters. The year was 1918, and everyone thought the dangers of having unlimited access to liquor and Alcohol were over but no one knew that this would be a time of great rise of mobsters and gangs all around the darkest corners of cities in the United States.
One of my favorite sources happens to be a video produced by Phil Riehl; entitled Fibonacci Numbers in Lateralus. [6] As the video points out what antiquity has amply annotated, math has been and continues to be utilized by all types of composers to fill sheets of astonishing emotional melodies for the masses to adore. Fibonacci Numbers in Lateralus blends history and fundamental mathematical approaches in music composition in order to provide a simple design methodology pertaining to Fibonacci numbers. Riehl’s analyzation of Tool’s song Lateralus (composed by Danny Carey) walks viewers through the Fibonacci numbers application, beginning with the drum introduction and through the sequencing of the lyrics. This study leaves no room for debate, as the evidence it produces is simply overwhelming.
Giovanni Bellini was born in c.1430 in Venice, Italy. Giovanni, his brother Gentile, and sister Nickolosa came from a long line of Italian venetian painters. In his early days, Bellini worked with his brother Gentile in their father Jacopo’s house. There, they learned important skills and techniques from some of Jacopo's pupils. Bellini’s father helped bring the Italian Renaissance to Venice. A Paduan painter named Andrea Mantegna was one of the most important pupils because he later became Giovanni’s brother-in-law, and one of the great influences of his work. Around the 1470’s he began to use a new technique called oil painting instead of using the common style of tempera painting. He quickly mastered this and captured the human emotions
After all of his research, Jared Estrada was very proud of the level of understanding he obtained on Fibonacci Sequences. He was very interested in the topic of whether mathematics was invented or discovered. He valued both sides of the research. Jared experienced difficulties at first with determining a topic and then finding enough resources. We were able to meet and help him work through these troubles. In the end, he struggled with word count. He was able to overcome this by us meeting and discussing ways to expand each subject heading with additional important information. Overall, Jared was fascinated with Fibonacci Spirals and how they occur frequently throughout nature. Jared’s advice for future mathematics EE students is to ask for
The renaissance was a time of “rebirth” and changing thoughts. The time of the renaissance was between the 14th century and went to the 17th century.Prior to the renaissance, people of the dark age devoted their life towards god, the changing thoughts of the renaissance lead people to devote their life to learning. The people’s top priority was no longer pleasing God and doing good for God, instead they began to change their priorities. God was still a big part of people’s lives but there was also a yearn for education. Mathematics was a big part of the renaissance, because it helped to make advancement in all areas of learning. The changing values to the Renaissance lead to advancements in mathematics which lead to new art techniques,
Pierre de Fermat Pierre de Fermat was born in the year 1601 in Beaumont-de-Lomages, France. Mr. Fermat's education began in 1631. He was home schooled. Mr. Fermat was a single man through his life. Pierre de Fermat, like many mathematicians of the early 17th century, found solutions to the four major problems that created a form of math called calculus. Before Sir Isaac Newton was even born, Fermat found a method for finding the tangent to a curve. He tried different ways in math to improve the system. This was his occupation. Mr. Fermat was a good scholar, and amused himself by restoring the work of Apollonius on plane loci. Mr. Fermat published only a few papers in his lifetime and gave no systematic exposition of his methods. He had a
The pre-20th century saw great events which brought about various inventions and discoveries especially in the mathematics field. There were various people who made great contributions to the mathematics field which are applicable and still in use to date. This paper will therefore look at two among the many great events and the contributors of the events in the mathematics field.
Mathematics has contributed to the alteration of technology over many years. The most noticeable mathematical technology is the evolution of the abacus to the many variations of the calculator. Some people argue that the changes in technology have been for the better while others argue they have been for the worse. While this paper does not address specifically technology, this paper rather addresses influential persons in philosophy to the field of mathematics. In order to understand the impact of mathematics, this paper will delve into the three philosophers of the past who have contributed to this academic. In this paper, I will cover the views of three philosophers of mathematics encompassing their
