Less Than Zero Analysis

Satisfactory Essays
Less Than Zero describes the return of East Coast college student, Clay, to his 1980’s Hollywood-hazed Los Angeles home for Christmas break. Clay narrates the vacation that ultimately unfolds itself to be an intense period of drug use, death, prostitution, and rape, in which he finds himself in countless situations that fail to evoke anything but narcotic-induced passivity and emotional detachment on his behalf. Upon picking up the estranged young man, his girlfriend, Blair, has a conversation with Clay that deeply resonates with him and serves as a precursor to the central ideas of Ellis’s story.
