The Industrial Revolution was a time of inventions, new ideas, and the process of beginning to make machine produced goods. Prior to the Industrial Revolution in the late 1700s, the manufacturing of goods were often done with basic machines and hand tools. Industrialization allowed a shift to factories, special-purpose machinery, and mass production. In the 1800s when industrialization became popular in England, it took the rest of the world by storm. England was now using new inventions that allowed for an improvement socially and economically. As time continued and England had an increasing demand for goods, more cost-efficient methods like the factory system and the rise of mechanization came into play. Along with many new inventions, the telegraph was invented and allowed for a whole new world of communication. At the time, people in Europe and America lacked quick forms of communication. Letters had always been used as the most common method of communication, however it took several days or even weeks for letters to be delivered. B. Morse began to develop an interest in electromagnetism and the idea of an electric telegraph. The sudden spark of interest began when his wife died during childbirth to their third son. He was away on an art commission when he was told that his wife a dangerously ill. When he made it back to his home, his wife had already been buried. The next year his father passed away and his mother died three years afterwards. Due to his grief, Morse decided to travel to Europe to recover. On his trip back home to America in 1832, he met inventor Charles Jackson. They had a conversation about how an electronic impulse could be carried on a wire for long distances. This immediately sparked Samuel F. B. Morse's ideas and began to create sketches of an electric device that he believed would be able to allow people to communicate long
