Growing up as a child, no one expects a young one to be out in the fields, in factories or even being a slave working their precious lives away. During one of America’s toughest generations, children were seen doing some of the same jobs and tasks that adults were having to take on. Making less than twenty to twenty five cents a day, children’s lives were at risk for nothing. As time went on, child labor laws were enacted to save children from abuse, neglect, serious injury and even death in the work place. As we sit in history classes, tour museums and take upon us the emotional and sometimes gruesome images from this time period, no words can describe how awful it must have been for one involved. But on the other hand, there was a positive side to the growth and construction of the American Nation through the New York City skyline. As one wraps up inside each photo, they most of the time do not realize who truly has captured them. Born Lewis Wickes Hine in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Sept. 26, 1874, Hine was best known for his photography to reach prestigious goals of social reform. Producing some of the most emotional and life changing photographs of the time, Hine is to be considered a hero for many of many …show more content…
Over the years, many of individuals have either created or misunderstood his true interpretation of photography through his eyes of life. Hine was never one to be an artist, but rather a political and social type of guy (Oden). Looking through his work, Hine tended to focus more on the negative and depressing events occurring during his time through the media. Personally, I find the subject matter he photographed very interesting. Not many other photographers took the steps and efforts that Hine did for others. Most fascinating to me, is how much of a political guy he was, yet he captured some of the most amazing and emotional photography known to present
Today was the day a man who fled to London with me on the same ship passed away. Thomas Hutchinson, was great man with a vision. He was a businessman, historian, and a politician. The news of his demise made my old memories fresh again. I still remember those days I spent on the place now they called The United States. The war between the English and the Americans began from 1775. King George the third, after defeating the French found his empire very large. The involvement of the king in too many wars put him in a huge national debt. To pay for his debt taxes were levied on the colonies without consenting the people living there.
Lewis W. Hine an activist and post-modern photographer known for the documentation of Immigrants on Ellis Island that started his career. Exposed the truth of child workers. He also recovered the name of a nation by photographing the atrocity of child labor. His work lend to the passing of the Keating-Owen Child Labor act (1916), or government projects. Lewis W. Hine swung on a special designed basket, above the streets of New York during the construction of the Empire State Building. photojournalism breached the beginning of its golden years, not to illustrate a scene of a place caught in time, but to capture a universal web of opportunity to see America’s living through someone else’s eyes. Lewis W. Hine changed the world through the lens of a modified Glaflex camera, leaving many to witness time in its place for the United States. America’s problems included the great depression, which led many American’s through the darkness of that time (1929-40s). Hine left, was ones world that needed a face to the real complications of social behaviors within our societies, “[Photographers are] the Human Document to keep the present and the future in touch with the past.” (The Great Images of the 20th Century)
For some, a picture is just a beautiful work of art, but for Lewis Hine photography was a way to communicate a message to the world. When Hine was taught the photographic process, it was still being established. This being said, photojournalism was also just evolving as a method to visually communicate information. In an effort to better his photography skills, Hine began to photograph the immigrants of Ellis Island. He was very adamant about social reform and reflected this in his work. Lewis Hine’s captivating photos inspired social change in America for the less fortunate.

After the recently concluded Rio Olympics 2016, we can all agree that the current king of track and field would definitely be the feisty Usain Bolt. The man’s strength and perseverance is something admirable and it all transcended with how easy it was for him to snatch all those Gold medals like picking an apple from a tree. But before the world ogled with how Usain Bolt’s performances are, there’s a moment in sports history where everyone admired a guy named Carl Lewis. With his sheer charisma and the shown versatility as a track and field athlete, it is no wonder why he succeeded so greatly when he’s still at play during his younger years. Now aged 55 and slowly being drained of his usual perked-up athleticism, we can all just look back on his very inspiring journey as an Olympian and nod into agreement that there’s no one who can match him in this lifetime.
1One of the most famous of Gothic novels was The Monk of Matthew Gregory Lewis. Published in 1796, his story describes a Spanish Abbot of the 17th century, renowned for his virtue and correctness. Ambrosio – the so-called hero was not able to resist the charms of a young beauty, Matilda, who was that neither is a real devil in human guise. From this moment the life of Ambrosio increasingly pervades vice, crime and black magic. In the end of the novel, he rapes his sister and murders his mother. Nevertheless, The Monk is protracted: if you read it from beginning to end. It's too long and too wordy, and the impact is weakened a strange and excessive reaction against those canons of decorum which Matthew Gregory Lewis despised as prudish. But

The white elephant, a gift from the King of Cochin to Manuel, was an albino—a trait as exceedingly rare in elephants as in humans. After being shipped from Cochin to Lisbon, the elephant—named Hanno, possibly anglicized version of the Malayalam word for elephant, “aana”—was packaged up for his journey to Rome. Although Hanno was accompanied by forty-three other exotic animals, he was clearly the star of the show.

Throughout the history of our country, injustice can be seen through many areas of life. During the twentieth century African-Americans pushed for equality, but had to endure the resistance by those who viewed them as inferior. The black community were subjected to many difficulties including economic, social, and educational discrimination. Gordon Parks is able to show the discontentment with their lives and the adversity that African-Americans must face through his photography. With his work we are able to see the effects of oppression in the daily life of an African-American. Gordon Parks captures the plight of African-Americans by focusing on the surroundings that show the severity and hardships that plagued them throughout the twentieth century. Parks’s two images, the “American Gothic” and “Religious Objects in the Bedroom of the Charwoman” help illustrate a need for reform as the surroundings give insight to the pain felt the black community during this time of oppression.
