A relationship is defined as a way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected. “Mariam Webstar 11/01/16” Webstar also states that a relationship can also be a romantic or sexual friendship between two people. In many states under public view, a relationship is supposed to between a man and a woman, however, the era of a relationship being between a man and a woman is over. Now a days, the publics eye has ben more accepting of homosexuality in America. A recent article posted on www. Gallup.com, stated “Over the last few decades, landmark legal cases, medical discoveries, and movies and TV shows have done much to increase acceptance toward homosexuality in American culture {.}”

According to Child Help, “a report of child abuse is made about every 10 seconds.” It has also been found that parents of the same gender have a higher tendency to abuse their children. (Lamerial McRae). LGBTQ is a term for a community of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, and people who question their gender. This dillema of LGBTQ rights has been a hot topic lately because members of this community have been changing laws and trying to change different codes, including bathroom codes.Many people in America do not agree because of personal beliefs or maybe just because of how they were raised. People involved with the LGBTQ community should not have the same rights as other citizens, because it hurts other religions, they tend to be violent, and equal rights has turned into special treatment.

Throughout history, society’s views of homosexuality and of people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, queer or questioning (LGBTQ) have changed. These views have changed how the members of this community feel about their personal identity as a whole. Over the last ten years, homosexuality and the LGBTQ community have become more accepted in society. In fact, a recent victory for the LGBTQ community occurred in June of 2015 when gay marriage become legalized in all fifty states. Despite the immense torture that members of the LGBTQ have received over decades, they are slowly becoming more accepted in today’s society. As society begins to become more tolerant with different ideals, the new and younger generations will continue to become more accepting of the people who identify as members of the LGBTQ community. These members will become more comfortable in their own skin and be allowed the same opportunities so other members of society.

In the Introduction to LGBT+ Studies class we discussed many themes of the history of the LGBT+ community, these themes include; oppression, fighting for our visibility and having it delayed, and a sort of power within the community. The LGBT+ community has gone through an immense amount of oppression, having to fight its way into the light and having it be pushed aside multiple times. In a historical context when the LGBT+ community started to show itself so to speak was around the 1920’s there were the first gay rights movements starting, and surprisingly it was the start of some acceptance. However, when World War II began in 1939 it oppressed the movement, as well as setting it back by gay men being denied from the military because

“Discrimination and inequality faced by gays and lesbians in the United States are widespread, and the social movement to end such with the principles of equality and fairness.”( Blackwell, C. W., Ricks, J. L., & Dziegielewski, S. F. (2004). I do feel that we as society has come a long way since the Stonewall Riots of 1969 when it comes to obtaining equal rights for the GLBTQ community. However, there are still segments of today's population that hold personal prejudices against gays and lesbians. With these prejudices, it’s important to understand that there is a direct correlation between discriminatory practices within the state and federal systems and public policy drafting. As I have mentioned, we have come a long way in regards to changing policy and practices with our Country. However, there is still much work to be done regarding issues that affect the gay and lesbian population when it comes addressing lifestyles and equal rights. The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) population has recently become a national health care priority. There are specific health care disparities and barriers to quality health care that significantly affect the LGBT population. A change in medical education curriculum is essential to combat these issues. Health care providers feel undereducated and ill prepared to treat the LGBT population. Research findings indicate there is a significant deficiency in medical education regarding specific LGBT health concerns. Multiple medical and nursing schools have offered LGBT health care focused educational sessions. Evaluation of these courses has shown effectiveness in changing attitudes, increasing knowledge, and improving the clinical skills and comfort level of health care providers. Addressing all aspects of LGBT health issues and utilization of LGBT standardized patients is essential for success. Inclusion of LGBT health concerns into core curriculum will augment the success of these seminars. Using this information, Physician Assistant programs can change their curriculum to address the specific needs of the LGBT population.

LGBTQ+ representation and rights have recently become a large epidemic in America, and some parts of Europe. Since the new millennium, the world has become more and more accepting. In 2005 gay marriage became legal in Canada, In 2008 the United States elected their first black president, in 2015 gay marriage became legal in the U.S, and so much more happened within the past 17 years of this new millennium. All of this shows how far we have come since the early 1900’s. This epidemic has intrigued not only LGBTQ+ people, but non LGBTQ+ people as well. In this essay, the following two questions will be answered; Does equality for LGBTQ+ and non LGBTQ+ people exist today in Canada? and, How far have we come? These questions will be answered by

Queer as Folk: Over the extent of of the United States’ history, we have had a lot of social movements. One of the most notable being the fight for equality for LGBTQI — that is, lesbian, gays, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and inter-sexual. The LGBTQ started its uprise in the ‘50s as homosexuals started to become more well known — not necessarily accepted, however — among society. The LGBTQI community has quickly progressed since the ‘50s and ‘60s, bringing along with it many social changes, transgressions, feelings of hate, misconceptions, and a plethora of stereotypes — changing society’s views on sex, marriage, love, and what it is to be human. It is important to understand the impact the LGBTQI community has had on our society, and which titles have made the greatest impact. Out of all six titles, one has became the most prominent in today’s society: gay men.

This paper examines the social aspects of the sexual identity in America, illustrating how sexual identities have progressed, evolved, and transformed. Social categories have been created as a tool used for social divide and control, inadvertently creating stereotypical facts and discriminatory opinions on sexes; while also helping create social and welcoming communities, whose goals are to diminish ideals such as those. In the twenty-four hours following the election, a surge in calls to suicide hotlines primarily from those belonging to the LGBTQ community. Trumps victory had caused thousands to suddenly fear their own futures in this country and questioned which of their rights they were going to lose in the next four years. This lead to many calling suicide hotlines for confirmation that life was worth living for and that their was always hope. Crisis lines dedicated to the LGBTQ community were specifically the ones that were most effected. The numbers of calls they were receiving were in the thousands, over doubling the average number of calls received and reaching unprecedented levels. An additional concern is that this may be causing a sudden influx trans-suicides, potentially up to ten. However, none of these cases have as of yet been confirmed, so there is a possibility that no suicides in relation to the election have occurred. Transpeople within America have a particularly precarious state in this country and the election seems likely to remove their rights in the upcoming years. Regardless, the election has increased the anxieties of countless in this country.

Our nation is facing a pressing issue that no one can find an adequate answer to. How do we deal with the many problems that are faced when dealing with transgender individuals? These people have somehow snuck their way into our schools, workplaces, military, and public restrooms. They should be condemned for the actions that they take against us when they argue how we should treat them.

Whether you believe it or not, every single person excluding no one is born with a sexual orientation. Most may have grown up in a family where you just knew that a man was supposed to be with a woman, and no one questioned it because it was “normal”. Then we have some people in society who were adopted by families all a crossed the world who found themselves in a home where the parents were of the same sex. We find again that we asked no questions because it was “normal”. Americans find themselves in quite the debacle these days because of prejudice. The number of estimated people in who identify as a transgender in United States of America is 700,000, according to 2011 findings from the Williams Institute, the transgender population represents about 0.3% of American adults. Disheartening research from the 2011 National Transgender Discrimination Survey reveals that 41% of transgender participants (2,644 out of 6, 540) had attempted, at some point, take their own lives. One of the reason why they attempting to suicide is because of discrimination about their gender. People are debating about should transgender individual should have their own bathroom and many people are getting affected by the issue. The use of public restroom by transgender individual has long been a polarizing issue.

A social problem is normally a term used to describe problems with a particular area or group of people in the world. Social problems often involve problems that affect real life. It also affects how people react to certain situations. While differences in racial/ethnic prejudices have been explored extensively in past literature (e.g. Bobo and Zubrinksy’s 1996, study of differential prejudices directed toward Hispanic and Black individuals), little U.S. research has investigated how attitudes toward lesbians, gays, bisexual men, bisexual women, and male-to-female (MtF) and female-to-male (FtM) transgender (henceforth “LGBT”) may differ ( Marcus, 2015).
