Liberal, Conservative, and Libertarian Political Philosophies

Living in the United States some people may forget how closely our political perspectives are to each other relative to those of foreign countries. While there are many political views and stances that an individual might take on any given topic, generally people in the United States fall into one of three categories: liberals, conservatives, and libertarians. Keep in mind that most people will not support all of the ideals of their advocated faction, but they must support the vast majority of them. In other words, libertarians only believe in negative rights. Libertarian views stem from the fundamental belief that as long as an individual does not violate the rights of another, no wrong has been done, and from this, some very interesting things happen: (1) a huge gap is created because some libertarians think that life starts at conception, but others do not. For obvious reasons, this can be viewed as a violation to the right to live. (2) They have been a pushing force in the effort to invalidate the Affordable Care Act by means of the federal court system. Libertarians saw Obamacare as an infringement on the rights of Americans and a disruption of their autonomy because it would force them to buy health insurance. Considering that this healthcare reform goes against the base of their philosophies, it makes sense that the libertarians would be a prime force in combating it. Having looked into the ideas of other people, it seemed strange to suddenly become aware of people in my everyday life that I disagreed with so much over things that seemed like common sense to me. I do not think that it is something that I will be able to just ignore either; it is similar to when someone points out that you can see your nose vaguely in your peripheral vision, or that you are conscious of your tongues position and that you are
