Brazil remains the largest country in South America and the Southern hemisphere. The country shares borders with all other South American countries except Chile and Ecuador (Figure 1). Since independence in 1822, the population of Brazil has followed an increasing trend estimated at over 204 million as at July, 2015 (CIA Fact Book, 2016). The combination of good climate which is mostly tropical but temperate in the south, vast natural resources and a large labour pool has made Brazil the largest economy and a regional leader in South America. Since the military regime ceded power to the Civilian in 1985, Brazil has continued to harness its resources for industrial and agricultural growth. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in Brazil …show more content…
Other difficulties faced are recurring droughts in north eastern Brazil, occasional frost in the southern region and deforestation in the Amazon Basin which destroys the habitat and endangers a multitude of plant and animal species indigenous to the area. Additionally, air and water pollution in Rio de Janeiro and other large cities, land degradation and water pollution caused by improper mining activities, wetland degradation, and severe oil spills are areas of concern.
There is need to proffer solutions to these aforementioned challenges through proper planning and implementation of growth driven policies. Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is a reliable technique that can be used for sustainable planning. Researchers in Brazil have applied LCA techniques in a number of sectors to provide reliable information for planning and policy making purposes. This paper reviews the various assessments carried out in Brazil using LCA. The main aim being to determine the availability of LCA studies in Brazil and the status of quantitative environmental assessments in the
Today Brazil with a GDP of $2.533 trillion is the 7th largest economy in the world and it is also considered as one of the most successful emerging countries. Despite all predictions, thanks to its huge domestic market and agriculture, the country maintained its growth in 2009 and 2010.
Brazil is a country that has a wonderful and enriching long history. It is accidentally discovered by the Portuguese in a route to the India. Pedro Álvares Cabral and his troop are the first European set foot on this mystical land in 1500. The indigenous along the shore was the first troop the Portuguese met. The arrival of Portuguese has deeply affect the economic and social environment of Brazil. Portuguese then evaded Brazil by sending Jesuits and later the Royal family doughing from the France and staying in Brazil until they returned to Portuguese in the early 1800s. During the period of Portuguese reign and after King Pedro I declared the independence of Brazil in 1822, the country has mainly gone through three major economy stages: sugar,
At the height of the transition of Philadelphia’s economy from agricultural to industrial, Philadelphia experienced a period of economic prosperity for almost all its citizens. Businesses were booming, new projects and development were established, the banking and commerce industries soared and a record number of jobs were created enabling the city to reach full employment rate, something that the city has yet to experience since. Citizens were confident in the government and financial institutions were equally confident in their citizens as evident by lax lending habits. As all good things typically come to an end, Philadelphia had an economic turn for the absolute worse. In 1920, the stock market crashed with several major bank failures and employment rate plummeted. The city then went through the worse financial time in the history of the U.S. known as the Great Depression. Citizens looked to their government for ways and means of ending the suffrage wreaking havoc on a once thriving and prosperous city. The significant increase in unemployment rate resulted in citizens losing trust and hope in the Republican Party, the party in power at the time. The New Deal initiative was then developed under President Roosevelt, which slowly ushered in the recovery of the economy and the city as a whole. The effects of the Great Depressions were alleviated to some degree; nevertheless the city struggled to achieve economic stability once more, but there was hope in sight. Despite the
Brazil is the 5th largest country in the World, and home to an almost uncountable number of species, where hundreds of new species are discovered every year. The biodiversity in Brazil is divided between six main biomes, and its marine and coastal zones: Amazon biome, Pantanal biome, Cerrado biome (Savanna), Caatinga biome (Tropical Scrub Forest), Atlantic Forest biome, and the Pampa biome. 20% of the Earth’s biodiversity is estimated to be found in Brazil. Furthermore, it is well known that all brazilian biomes have been struggling with human activities, the pressures. Human pressures have been driving a high number of species towards nearly extinction in Brazil; some are believed to be extinct even before they have been studied by formal
Brazil is thought to be one of the fastest growing economies in the Americas. On the world’s stage Brazil is currently the third largest agricultural producing country. The country produces roughly 150 million tons of grains and oilseeds; and thirteen million tons of meat annually.
Brazil is a leading emerging economy in the world today. Other economies in this category include; Russia, India, South Africa and china excluding Hong Kong and Macau. There has been a real transformation in the Brazil economy in the 21st century. The country 's location is in Latin America and is one of the motivating economies in the world market. It has experienced rapid growth, price stability, and fiscal responsibility (Czinkota 2010).
Brazil is currently the fifth most populated country throughout the world. It is also the fifth largest country in size in the world. The current social situation in Brazil is quite unpleasant. There are many social, racial, and economic injustices portrayed in the metropolitan areas of Brazil. Two very important issues that are currently occurring in Brazil would be the social injustices that take places in Brazil’s urban areas. Another would be the deforestation and the socioeconomic results of it. The city of Sao Paulo remains to place in the top 7 most populated cities in the world.
During the previous years, one of the biggest threats the world as a whole faces is the destruction of our environment, mainly through deforestation. Deforestation is the destruction of forests in order to increase land usage for agriculture, grazing and urban development. Generally forest clearers cut or burn the trees to clear land. Deforestation is one of the major causes of environmental problems in Brazil with the rate it is developing. Brazil's development is coming at a time when scientists believe that the loss of the Amazon's forests, the Atlantic forest and the Cerrado will affect the way the planet functions. Brazil has the most amount of forest in the world, if the cutting of forests keeps going on this way it will affect the water

Federative Republic of Brazil has an area of 8.5 million square-kilometers, which is slightly smaller than the US, and makes it the fifth largest country in the world (The World FactBook [WFB], 2015a). It has a population of about 204.3 million (WFB, 2015a). As the South America's largest economy, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Brazil is about $2.353 trillion and the GDP per capita is around $16,100 in 2014 (WFB, 2015a).
Brazil dominates the continent of South America in almost every category from land mass to Gross Domestic Product. It “is the largest and most populous country in South America. Endowed with rich natural resources, Brazil's economy outweighs that of all other South American countries with large and well-developed agricultural, mining, manufacturing and services sectors” (Country Watch). When a nation has a large population, diverse economy and vast resources, putting those resources to their best economic use is often at odds with the wisest use of those resources. Because of the growing population, there has been large scale encroachment of rain forest habitat there.
Brazil ranks first in the world in arable land and fifth in the world in territory and population. They have a “soils sustain a bountiful agricultural which they produce the world’s leading exporter of coffee, orange juice, sugar, tobacco, ethanol, beef, and chicken.”(pg.273) Deforestation became a major issue in Brazil. Due to the fact of “removing the rainforest results directly from logging operations, but more of it is now a matter of clearing space for land occupation by settlers as well as the expansion of large-scale agribusiness.” (pg.278) Brazil economy have grown over the years after the new policies that was passed made a sufficient in the manufacturing in Brazil.
Brazil is a country filed with many people and many environments. The very location of the nation provides a suitable climate for all kinds of ways to produce multiple resources. Although this may seem very beneficial, the past couple of years have proven the complete opposite. Brazil has constantly struggled with poverty levels and a hurt environment. In a recent study conducted by multiple researchers, a vast majority of the country’s regions were shown to be very vulnerable to the occurring climate changes. Factors such as rainfall, temperature, and human development were all observed. What I plan to do is go into a different view of this issue. How do areas with high levels of poverty affect the surrounding environment? This will offer
Their manufacturing sector is vastly growing, most importantly to this video is the Aircraft and carrier production facilities. There is a massive market and trade with the U.S. for all types of aircraft and they have the skilled labor to produce them. Brazil has discovered gigantic new oil deposits which, according to Henrique Brzezinski in the GlobalAtlanta.com video, could build a strong relationship between the U.S. and Brazil. He stated the fact that they could supply the oil in turn, making the U.S. less dependent on other suppliers. He did not come out and say they could replace the Middle East, however he eluded to the U.S not being dependent on countries with which there is current conflict.. The Brazil’s booming economy video also points out the enormous amounts of grains that they output and the stable political system that is allowing them to grow. The video mentions, albeit quite briefly, that there is still a large problem with social inequality that Brazil must overcome to
