Evidence: Obtaining a college degree provides career, financial stability and long term job for the future. The employment rate for an individual with a college degree is higher than an individual with a high school degree. For example, the employment rate was highest for young adults with a bachelor’s or higher degree (88 percent). The employment rate for young adults with some college (77 percent) was higher than the rate for those who had completed high school (69 percent), which was, in turn, higher than the employment rate for those who had not finished high school (48 percent).     Having a college degree can prove job security to those wanting to secure their position at their job such as when the economy was dropping. In the essay, "Why Those Student Loans Are Still Worth It" by author Elaine Pofeldt explains how going to college is worth all the loans a student receives. Pofeldt states "Researchers found that, though those from 21 through 24 saw dips in employment and wages during the recession, those with college degrees fared better during the downturn and afterward," meaning having a college degree is helpful when things become bad (226). Those with higher degrees will have a more secure position. An article online titled “College Education - ProCon,” list pros and cons of college degrees. When people do not go to college they have to start at entry level jobs and make minimum wage. Students who do go to college have better job options, and make better money with benefits. “According to data from the National Center for Education Statistics, college grads earn an average of $20,000 more than those with a high school education when both groups are several years into their careers” (Sportelli). These earnings are a great difference, and that is if someone with only a diploma even gets the job to be considered lucky. “Employers increasingly want workers with at least some college education, be it a degree or even a certificate in a trade, such as nursing assistant or welding, from a technical or community college” (Luhby). College graduates are more likely to be employed for a job position than an individual who only has a highschool degree. For example in the article,”Middle Schoolers, Why College?” it states,”Today most good jobs require more than a highschool diploma. They want people who know how to think and solve problems.” A high school diploma is almost meaningless now, high school may have not prepared you for college, so why would you think it would prepare you for anything beyond that? Also, by attending college you acquire more knowledge and skills in many other fields which makes you more ideal for a job. In addition, a website had stated,”The unemployment rate for people with a college degree was 2.5%, for the ones who only had a highschool diploma was 7.7%.” As you can tell, people with only a highschool diploma are more likely to be unemployed than a college student. A college degree can almost assure you on never being unemployed, as people do want someone who knows what their doing and by going to college they’ll know you have been educated above high school level. To sum everything up, if you have a college degree you have a greater possibility in being hired for a job than someone who only has a highschool degree. However, several jobs do need a college degree in order to apply for them.

The benefits of a college degree are not just for money, but also a college degree will also give a person more career options. A person with a college degree will have more career options than someone without a college degree because employers will see that one has a college degree and think that person knows what to do and can do the job well. Employers want the best person for the job and a college degree looks really good on a person’s resume (Ten Great…). In a survey that was casted to see what employers look for, those employers said that they wanted people that have dependability, reliability, a good attitude, the ability to read comfortably, the ability to think more consciously, computer skills, and the ability to communicate clearly whether it be spoken or in writing (Knowledge and…). Along the path of getting a college degree, one will also learn these skills and attributes.

College is a key to future success because with a better education, you have the potential to learn more about different jobs, different paths to major in, and in the end you have the support and knowledge over others who do not. This in turn gives the advantage to any college graduate that is looking for success and a job in the future. One example as CNN Money has portrayed is that almost all of the jobs offered after the Great Recession were given to those with a college degree, either bachelor's or associate's. “8.4 Million college graduates with at least a Bachelor’s degree landed a job in the recovery, while 3.1 million graduates with a Associate’s degree or some college, and only 80,000 people with only a high school diploma got a job of the 11.6 million jobs created after the recession” (Lubby). As previously mentioned, a college’s main purpose is to score you job and according to Mr. Leonhardt they do just that; “College graduates, though hardly immune from the downturn, are also far less likely to be unemployed… Construction workers, police officers, plumbers, retail salespeople and secretaries, among others, make significantly more with a degree than without one. Why? Education helps people do higher-skilled work, get jobs with better paying companies or open their own businesses.” So not only does a college education statically give graduates the advantage in the job market, but according to PS&DT the majority of those graduates were satisfied with their investment; “Among survey respondents who graduated from a four-year college, 74% say their college education was very useful in helping them grow intellectually; 69% say it was very useful in helping them grow and mature as a person; and 55% say it was very useful in helping them prepare for a job or career.”

Nevertheless, students who stay in college want to get a degree, so employers assume they are more qualified for the job than others that don 't. They believe that with a degree they will have more life opportunities and have access to more resources. According to College Atlas, “if you obtain a college degree, you’re more likely to earn more money throughout your career than if only have a high school education.” (College Atlas 16). Their claim states that obtaining a college degree will help you more financially than people do do not a degree, and that not having a degree will leave you with a lot of risks than rewards. In other words, supporters of college for all argue that receiving education does matter in a acquiring a job, and you have a lead over those who don’t have a degree when competing for a spot in work

The people that go to college after graduation can get paid way more in a job than people that only have a highschool diploma. The degree somebody gets in college looks great applying for a job in the future, and there is no doubt the pay can be higher in the job after going to college. The amount of education someone has can depend on the amount of money made in a job, “Three decades ago, full time workers with a bachelor’s degree made 40 percent more than those with only a highschool diploma.” (David). This proves college pays off, however, it can be a handful of money for college. Just imagine the investment that is made when making more money on a job later down the road.

Another similar example is from the online article “Help Wanted: Projections of Jobs and Education Requirements through 2018”. It also shows college graduates are more likely to receive 22.9% formal or 17.2% informal job training in the career fields compared to high school graduates. Also, they have more access to technology development, greater autonomy, and ability to enhance skills based on their job function. Therefore, from these two examples, we can see how college education can benefit students with more and better employment choices for their future. Besides that, people who have a college education, not only they will have more career choices open to them and then stand a better chance of getting a job, but also they will have higher earnings than high school graduates.
