I believe that each different human being had their own definition of what gives their life a meaning. Some might say that a certain person is the meaning; some others might say that traveling is and discovering new places helps you have a meaning in life. Others might say that being healthy and having friends and family ir their meaning. And they all are right. Each one of us has their own reality and therefore their own definition, but what all of these have in common is that they make each person happy. A certain person to someone might be the reason why they wake up every morning and be happy, traveling often makes people enjoy life a little extra, and makes them happy, and so does having health and friends and family. Then my sister heard that and she came and sit down to the conversation, after a while of talking my friend asked me what was the chance of me studying abroad, and my sister without even thinking twice, gave me a mocking smile and said “I will tell you, her chances of going out to study are zero percent!” and after that moment I really started thinking about studying what everyone around me expected me to study. I wasn’t excited with the idea, but I thought that maybe if everyone told me that that’s what he or she saw me doing, probably was because I was good at it, but I was so hurt inside because of that decision. After a year and a half, my dad told me “ do whatever you love and makes you happy” and those words got stuck in my brain forever and that’s what I am doing, I started to look for colleges to study here in the States, and study whatever made me happy, and I can’t complain, I feel happy every day. Happiness has to come hand in hand with love. You have to be able to love your journey in life and enjoy the little things to be happy. Sometimes is very hard to do it, because life is testing you, and you really feel like its falling apart, but in those moments you have to be really strong and try to find a reason to smile and be happy, even though is hard. I can personally say that those times in life are the hardest to look for something positive, but we have to remember that life is what you make
Happiness is not something that only lucky people come across, but rather, happiness is uncovered through a positive mindset and an optimistic outlook on life. People who take the time to appreciate the little things in life and view
In order to be truly happy we must find the perfect balance of accepting our emotions and learning to cope with them. Like Joy, we often become obsessed with the thought of being happy and forget that its not possible to be happy without the aid of all other emotions and like Sadness, we think of ourselves as pathetic and worthless if we feel down, which is not the case at all. We try to hide our true emotions, in fear of looking weak in front of others. The only way for true happiness is to find a balance with all emotions and be in tune with
We all have the opportunity to be happy, what we do with that opportunity is on us. We all face challenges, some more difficult than others but there does come a point in our lives where we have to choose.. We have to make the decision to take the opportunity of happiness or to not. We all given them opportunity even if it might not seem so. If a person is in a healthy environment, has an appropriate attitude and has love in their life, they have the opportunity to be happy.
Father Himes mentions that there is a difference in being happy and feeling joy. I find that it does not take very much for me to be happy in life, however it is the special moments in life that bring me joy. I am usually joyful when I am going through challenge that specifically makes me have to incorporate all my strengths. I am not talking about challenges like getting a flat tire on the freeway or dealing with plumbing issues. I am talking specifically when
Happiness is something that many have debated and argued on for years. From the way happiness can be found, to the quickness that it can be lost. Happiness though does not have to come from the things around us, it can come from within our very being. It can be found in the interactions we have with others. And even the smallest, most insignificant of experiences can bring someone a happiness that could mean the world to them. And although the sayings that many see and have been spread around typically have to do with finding inner peace or searching within yourself, it does not mean that there this is the only way to find peace from within. And above all else, I believe that happiness can be found even in the most unlikely of places. This is because of the fact that happiness, though generally talked about, does not have a uniformed meaning and is something completely different for each person.
The novel, The Scarlet Letter, takes place in the seventeenth century Puritan society of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Being under Puritan rule means that each colonist had to obey by the rules set by the magistrates and were assigned a spiritual leader, which would watch over their spiritual health. Puritans society was entirely thoracic and bound by the mandates of the bible. Hester Prynne and Dimmesdale began an affair. When the pregnancy could no longer be hidden, Hester was forced to reveal the baby daddy. When she refused, she was forced to be humiliated because she had broken the sixth commandment. Moreover she was treated as an outcast, a joke. She was the topic of sermon, a laughing joke to the kids and an object of scorn to the
Happiness can come in a wide variety of things. Different things make different people happy. Seeing a cute dog can make me happy for a moment. Do we long to be happy one day at a time or are we longing to know we will never be sad? Assume every person on the planet has had their happy moments, there is always a deterrent. Always the next moment that can be taken in any direction and if you have experienced emotions then it is known. People may long to be happy but. I think no one can ever be one hundred percent happy for their whole life, but I think people can be content. There will always be moments that are not happy moments but there will always be another moment that can bring joy. I believe you can be happy with your life, even with those moments of other emotion. One of the main things that I want in life is happiness. What can make me happy are many different things. I long for happiness, and in that longing many things that have the
Happiness is a key to everybodys life. Even the most depressed man on earth has a little happiness deep down inside. Its what keeps us striving to fulfil our needs and wants on an everyday basis. There is not one kid who does not get excited over a dollar to spend at the candy shop. What about the feeling of getting a promotion at your job, or even finding the cure for cancer. Being happy is not just healthy, but it is also rewarding for each and every individual. We strive to find anything that will turn a bad day to a good one. Individuals will compromise to attain their happiness. You can not get what you want without giving something first.
The question, “What is the meaning of life” has been pondered by many philosophers and theologians for centuries. There has been no definite answer for this question. Almost no one would argue that there is no meaning. However, in his book, The Achievement Habit, author Bernard Roth does just this. In his book, he directly states, “meaning isn’t inherit in an object or a person” (Roth 18). Roth draws on the ideas championed by the famous philosopher, Aristotle, in his Rhetorical Triangle when he continues to argue these points. Roth’s claims, while incorrect, are soundly based, ethically, emotionally, and logically. Roth uses ethics to back up his claim in arguing that nothing has value, he draws on the reader’s emotions in instructing
What does life mean to us? Each day we wake up, do our daily routine, sleep, and then repeat. What if one day we are shown that our world, and the life that we have been living, is not real. What meaning would our lives have then? Would we say that we lived a good life? Or would we say that we have not yet lived at all? On the other hand, what if we are presented with option of living a simulated life? We could have the option of being and doing whoever and whatever we want. And once we are in the simulation we will not even remember that our lives are not real until we come out of it. Would you accept that offer?
Everyone, in some form or fashion, has a desire to understand and question the purpose and meaning of their life. In fact, it’s important for people to understand the true meaning of the purpose they have in life so that they may live well here on Earth. Philosophers, such as Socrates, Aristotle, and Confucius began to question the life of a human being and what it meant to be a human being. Each of these philosophers has their own philosophy or worldview of the best life a human being can live, with the concept of having wisdom and virtue being the key components. In fact, each of these philosophers expresses the importance of having a life full of wisdom and virtue based off what they describe as the best life for a human being.
The central motivation in life is the pursuit of meaning or seeking meaning to one’s life. The meaning of life pertains to the significant of living and existence. The meaning of life as perceived by us is derived from philosophical and religious contemplation including scientific enquiries. So many people believed that in order to give meaning to life, it requires a pilgrimage to a desolate part of the world or being of service but the truth is that we can give meaning to our life through our own power to define what is important to us. Harold S. Kushner said “you don’t become happy by pursuing happiness. You become happy by living a life that means something.” You already have the power to create meaning and purpose in your life. For instance, a person sweeping the floors can define their life as being meaningful if the money they earn provides adequate food and shelter for their family. Whatever you do does not create meaning, it is the meaning that you assigned to what you do that is important. The meaning you hold towards something is represented from a deeper place within you. That is to say that the act or thing does not in itself define you. Pursuing meaning, however, makes you feel good about yourself, because you are pursuing something bigger than yourself, something that makes you create value. When you understand how you contribute value, you will attach meaning to even the smallest thing you do. The most motivating choices are ones that align with your “why” and
The complex idea of the meaning of life came to be first through the Hindu teachings. The four main purposes of life are Dharma meaning to act virtuously and righteously. Artha means the prosperity and successfulness in one’s life. Kama being the concept of whatever action a person makes, they will receive the same back. Moksha is the proceeding of a spirit into another being according to their past life.
The end of Ecclesiastes says that in the end all that matters is to ‘fear God and keep his commandments for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, English Standard Version [ESV]). The whole world is searching for meaning to life yet it is summed up here at the end of Ecclesiastes, which informs our view of meaning in life as well. In this life, God determines meaning for me, and in this life there are things such as family friends and the Bible that are more meaningful than others.
Life as we know it could vanish within seconds. The next day is not promised to anyone that walks on this earth. As we live our everyday lives peacefully, we tend not to think what our mission or purpose in life is. Instead, we think what we must do for that to be a “successful” person. Despite this way of thinking, just think for a second. What makes life meaningful? What is life anyway? These questions dive right into the heart of the philosophical, psychological, and the biological aspects of life and what the true meaning of life is. This is a very arguable topic due to every person’s different perspective on life and what it means to them. In summary, I personally think that life is simply what you make of it and each person’s accomplishments has its own merit
