“Life of Pi” though written in 2001, it provides excellent detail and a captivating storyline. In this book, Yann Martel provides a story to readers with a great taste of religion, excitement and rising suspense. At the beginning of the novel, I was very confused about the protagonist 's situation of living a depressing life as well as the importance of certain characters. For example, the protagonist introduces "Richard Parker " as a character who had left him without saying anything. Without much context, he moves forward on to the next topic. I believe this is a flaw because the author leaves a significant relationship of an important character to the protagonist but then never introduces him directly which leaves the author wondering who exactly is this "Richard Parker". The story progresses on and the “Richard Parker” character turns out to be a adult Bengal tiger that weighs approximately 450 pounds. Pi is a round character and shows it by how brave he is to go through this challenge without backing down. The bravest moment in the story was by far Pi standing up for himself. He was bullied for having a weird name and the people around him started calling him "Pissing", including his teachers. Pi stood up for himself by "picking up a piece of chalk and said as I wrote: My name is Piscine Molitor Patel, known to all as Pi" (Pg 22). He did not only said it in a serious way, he made a joke by writing "Pi = 3.14" (Pg 23). I kind of agree with the way he did it because
