Life in the information age

In this section I will be discussing how the information age is affecting our lives in many ways. I will examine the following 5 examples to show its impact on our social, personal, and professional lives. From a lot of research I’ll put together all the knowledge I have learnt about the information age and give you a good outlook on how technology has enhanced the way we live our lives today. I will take in to account the advantages and disadvantages of this technological advancement.

The five areas I’ll be looking into are:

- Communication

- Education

- Crime and crime prevention

- Banking and shopping

- Working styles

Also most businesses now use e-mail, this allows businesses to communicate quickly, and send each other files easily. Phones have also played a huge part in the way we communicate as now people are using blackberries to work from home, as phones can now receive wireless interenet.
Social: The way we interact has globalised due to communication services, such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace and so on. We can now socialise over the web, with people all over the world. Instead of using verbal communication we can now type a message to a friend online. This has changed the way we live as we now have the equipment to converse using technology.


As we are living in an increasingly technological world it is important that children are introduced to computers at a young age. This is so that they can gain useful ICT skills as they progress through school, so that they are more prepared for working life.

E learning is used in schools, colleges and universities, as teachers frequently use the Internet as a part of their lesson plans. This is because it provides applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel etc, which can be used in various subjects.
