The healthcare sector offers a variety of professional opportunities that include pediatric, geriatrics, public policy and many other areas in which I hope to make a impact towards. I have always been intrigued by medicine and continue to gain more interest in public health. In the future, I desire to combine both medicine and public health by participating in an MD and MPH program. My experiences and education provide me with constant motivation in achieving my goals.
For the last three years, I have worked as a lifeguard for the State of Maryland Park and Recreations. My experience working as a lifeguard has been beneficial in pursuing my goals . Every week at my workplace I participate in a mandatory training known as in-service, which

I was the first respondent to a girl having a asthma attack. I followed my training to provide assistance while her father brought her inhaler. Another incident that I responded to was a customer having a heat stroke in the hot tub. After activating my emergency action plan (EAP), I positioned the woman on the nearest bench and held an ice pack to the back of her neck to cool her down. The manager extended a water hose with cold water and directed the water to her bottom half. I learn that using the water hose was more effective because it cools down the customer in a shorter amount of time. These experiences have help me to respond to an array of emergencies. Always after an incident I have a tendency to replay the scene in my head and wonder what I could have done differently, which helps me to be better equipped for future emergencies and to identify better prevention methods for other accidents. My best moment of my job is when I help people and I see the gratitude on their faces. I will never forget the parents that thanked me after I pulled their child out the water or the expression on the woman's face when she came back into reality from

Being a firefighter is everything to me; it’s my dream job. I cannot wait to embark my lifelong career as a firefighter. I’m even more excited to learn about how to be a firefighter through amazing firefighter who I look up to and hope one day I’ll have as much experience as Chief Harris. The rewards of being a firefighter are like no other, the brotherhood is the life I chose, and I hope to have a positive impact on people in the community I will serve as a
Public Health is an interesting topic. Many people may not understand the purpose of Public health, it is a fairly new field although it has been around since the 1800’s. Before being introduced to the the field, I was clueless and never knew such a subject existed. Going into college with dubious decisions on my major within the pre-med program I knew I wanted to help people and the society, but was unsure what to major in.
From the interviews, my observations, and my background knowledge of lifeguarding at different facilities, I will analyze the forms of literacy at the various facilities and their importance to successfully lifeguard.
Individuals who continue with their preparation and get their Master of Public Health degree are figuring out how to set themselves up for awe inspiring destinies. Getting a MPH degree will offer specialists the capacities anticipated that would handle whatever cash related or word related troubles may come their bearing. Regardless, the positive circumstances that individuals with Master of Public Health degrees acknowledge are nothing appeared differently in relation to the points of interest they pass on
A career in medicine is not only a career in treating illness, but also a career in education and research. During the next year I plan to continue working with Dr. Alexander Morden in his medical practice as I have for the past year. Working with Dr. Morden has taught me more about the medical profession than any other experience that I have had. Through observation of physician patient interactions and performing my functional duties as a medical secretary, I am constantly exposed to new medical terminologies, treatment regimes, pharmacology, and most importantly, patients. I have also been introduced to the importance of medical billing, coding, and practice management. I intend to enhance my role at the office by training to become a medical
Although this subject was quite intriguing, I did not find this field to be something about which I was passionate about. In fact, it wasn’t until my last year of college that I realized that this was something that I felt I could see myself doing with my life. My interest in pursuing an MPH degree began when I interned at the UCI Medical Center. I realized how much of an impact one person can have in their passion to see change and shortly after, I realized that I wanted to be a part of that
Even though I don’t have a specific career planned out, I plan to combine clinical practice, research, and political science in caring for the underserved diverse populations of America. It is important to address the issues in health disparities from multiple points of view, and that is something I want to incorporate in my future career. To do so, in five years I see myself starting medical school to attain an M.D-Ph.D. I also want to get a Master’s in public health in order to better prepare me as a potential future policy-maker. In 10 years, I plan to start establishing a career in medicine/research with an institution that helps increase health equity. I also hope to start setting up my role as a policy-maker in my community to push for legislation aimed to create awareness and eliminate health disparities. This fellowship/internship will hopefully build onto the foundation of my future, for it will help me gain both knowledge and experience in urban planning/public health alongside faculty that shares the same goals as
Soon after starting college, I learned that public health existed. I learned that one could address the health of a population through social, behavioral, and community interventions. I had never thought that was possible. And, the more I learned, the more I became interested. I began to see it as the link between my desire to become a physician and my passion for fighting poverty, disparity, hunger and disease. Public health was the career that I was looking for.
Lifeguard towers are used by many shoreline lifeguard organizations, for example, California State Lifeguard and LA County Lifeguard Service, to improve the viability and productivity of their lifeguards. These towers are regularly developed 10-15 feet over the ground so as to permit the lifeguards expanded observable pathway. This lifted position permits lifeguards to see over obstructive protests, for example, shoreline umbrellas, shades, and different diversions. This high up position likewise permits lifeguards to better recognize tear streams and other conceivable perils.
I see the dramatic the changes in how my patients fell about themselves and the significant health improvements that occur and help them to recover from their ailments. Over the years I have researched into health issues and how to promote healthy living. I see the huge benefit of medicine but also believe in the help of social and environmental influences. I have been reading journals, and taking a keen interest in recent news concerning increasing health issues in both developed and developing countries and regularly attend seminars and meet with public health leaders at different functions and events. Through a Masters of Public Health program, I hope to gain a comprehensive understanding of public health research and practice.
The MPH program at the University of Toronto is one of the best Public Health programs in Canada which provides an intensive focus on public health issues. It draws on a wide range of disciplines while offering students the chance to practice the concepts they have learnt in class in an applied environment. I am pursuing admission into the MPH program because I am interested in learning about different health challenges and the ways to develop a practical means of action for these challenges.
In fact, new schools and programs of public health are developing yearly and the amount of prospective public health employees increased by sixty-nine percent in one era. In the year 2011 for example, the number of prospective employees grew from 5,747 in the year 2001 to 9,717. However, only seventeen percent of state public health employees have official training in public health (Yeager et al., 2016). Subsequently, the crisis of the health workforce has emphasized the necessity for more health care professionals and this requirement has driven an increased interest in professional health education. This also includes individuals pursuing masters of public health (MPH) courses, and this change created an impact on the workplace and the region (Zwanikken et al.,
Public Health is the most representative of my career goals. Participating in the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP), I developed a better understanding and received first-hand exposure to health disparities. Also, while shadowing at a community clinic in Chicago, where many uninsured patients receive care at a low cost, I witnessed the relief in the patient’s faces as their health concerns were addressed. Their plights reminded me of some of my relatives. I believe everyone deserves adequate care in the United States and the health disparities and inequities that exist need to be further addressed. As the President of my school’s Minority Association of Pre-Med/Health Students (MAPS), I passionately seek to educate and promote
As a first generation, college bound member in my family, being a physician was what I assumed as being the ultimate career attainable to reach success in healthcare. Therefore, my mindset was to get into medical school. Ironically, the Medical/Dental Education Preparatory Program (MEDPREP), a post-baccalaureate program, known for assisting economically and educationally disadvantage students get into medical or dental school, made me realize becoming a physician was not the best fit career with what I desired for a profession in healthcare. Although MEDPREP gave me the opportunity to prove I can be successful in a professional school, the program also made me recognize there are other successful careers in healthcare, which would be in par with the goals I set to accomplish.
