One of the important technical elements of the film in the movie Arrival is lighting. Lighting is used in this film to set tone and mood. For instance, dark shadows of the alien ships are used to create a tense mood about the arriving aliens. Additionally, in this film, especially the chamber where Banks spent most of her time, light is absorbed rather than reflected and this creates a gloomy mood. Dr. Banks is in a “relationship” with death and the ominous and dark lighting of her chamber represents this connection. Furthermore, this movie depicts Louise’s enlightenment and as result, the director uses the lighting to reflect her (Dr. Banks) journey of learning about the alien culture, and a change in her perception of time, life, and death. This concept is replicated in other scenes in the movie. For example, in Dr. Banks’s home, a large window opens up to a blinding, yet cloudy lake contrasting with the …show more content…
Language can modify one’s thinking patterns, but this film shows that language can be used to teach one how to experience time in a non-linear manner. For example, the Heptapods (aliens) can move freely through the timespans of their lifecycles and know more of what is about to happen at every moment. When Dr. Banks is finally enlightened, she is given the gift of the language of the aliens, which is the understanding of time. More specifically, she is given the ability to see the future, and she sees the death of her dear daughter. While this gift to foresee the future breaks her, it eventually motivates her to embrace her future role as a mother, and to make most of the time she gets with her daughter. The second theme involves space, and it is depicted in the arrival of 12 mysterious pods from space. Dr. Banks is tasked with the responsibility to communicate with these aliens out of space to monitor their behavior and understand their purpose on
When she is at Tinker Creek, she uses words like “lost, sunk” which shows the lack of understanding as she looks towards Tinker Mountain. All of a sudden, she sees what looks “like a Martian spaceship”. She uses a simile to describe what she sees as otherworldly or magical because a Martian spaceship is not from this world. She describes that “it flashed borrowed light like a propeller”. As the object is coming down, it brings with it “light” or a revelation. She goes on to portray it as “pirouetting and twirling”, words which are often associated with ballet and are viewed by most people as beautiful. Her experience with this beautiful, otherworldly object is a door that allows her to see this as part of the beauty in the world.
To start, there are many quotes from the book that can describe this theme. An example is on page 2, right
Another example of theme is in the end of the book. This is when Micheal came back to save all of his friends. ‘ “Hatch is about to hurt our friends, and I need to stop him” ’
In Corpse Bride the use of lighting can create various moods and tones. When Emily was coming out of the woods there was a back lighting showing only her silhouette and making her seem intimidating. This affect is achieved because seeing only her silhouette, making her figure seem dark, makes her appear as more intimidating. Without this lighting the affect of intimidation wouldn't be there
I’m writing to Lisa Darger, Coordinator of Sustainability from the office of Sustainability. A coordinator is who organize events, activities and arrange people in order to make sure they work together effectively. Since Darger is Coordinator, she can make all the changes and add new facilities to the recycling and littering activities. I’m wanting to discuss her about providing more trashcans here and there and also proving more recycling activities on campus. I think she will be interested in my letter because it is responsibility if there is issues about litter or recycling is occurred, and I’m sure she will be happy to help me about my issues about littering on campus.

Throughout the book there were several incidences where this theme was important, such as when Ben tries to make Ringer smile despite being in the middle of the end of the world, when Cassie and Sammy reunite, he goes back to his five year old self even though he was in boot camp for months, and lastly Cassie and Evan flirt
Lewis uses lighting to dramatize the opening scene of the film and characterize the protagonist of the story. The most noticeable utilization of film noir lighting is in the beginning

Lighting as we know, creates the atmosphere for the setting, it establishes the overall tone for what the audience sees. Lighting is key in filming, as it can change tones from scene to scene to create a certain subliminal meaning. For instance the contrasting light from character to character to allow the viewer to understand the differences. Throughout the movie “The Dark Knight” we are able to see how the lighting allows for the directors subliminal meaning to seek through; darkness within. As the name of the movie suggests “Dark Knight” the movies overall tone is set in the darkness. This dark atmosphere allows for an eerie feeling, tension to build up and an anxiety feeling for the viewer. To understand the underlining meaning behind the lighting choices within the film, it 'll be shown by the protagonist, antagonist and the overall atmosphere within the movie.
The movie begins with an expert linguist Louise Banks, (Amy Adams) losing her only daughter to cancer at a young age. This is an important key to the storyline, but it gets set aside as soon as twelve gigantic unidentified space craft appear in different places around the world. Within a day Louise is summoned by the United States Military to decipher the language of the aliens. Shortly after arriving at the base, Louise is sent into the large black “shell” along with a team of men and physics specialist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner). The door to the shell only opened every eighteen hours. Once inside, the pod leads to a luminous chamber with a large glass screen like a movie theater. On the other side of the glass emerged from the fog; two squid-like creatures that were later named Heptapods. Because the military did not know the language of the aliens, they needed Louise to determine a way to communicate with these creatures and figure out why they were here. Throughout the movie, Louise would have memories of the child that died at the beginning of the movie, however, she seemed to be confused immediately after the flashback.
Lighting and filming through the movie is applied creatively causing people to be interested in not only the plot but the aesthetic . Lighting gave the movie a mysterious ambiance. They also use the lighting to create a contrast of characters, they manipulate the lighting in a scene with Harvey Dent to show the dark side Of himself. Doing these
