Limestone Concert Report

It’s amazing to listen to musicians who do not normally play with each other come together and leave the audience in complete awe. That is exactly what happened on the day of Thursday November 26th 2014. The Bill Crothers Varsity Winds comprised of grade eleven and twelve students along with a few, talented grade tens went to listen to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra play. We travelled via a typical yellow school bus that took us to Roy Thomson Hall where we went right to the top level and took our seats. The seating seemed rather helpful because from a distance you could hear every instrument when you focused on it. It was beautiful. The band presented well with their “Penguin” like attire that was kind to the eyes. They appeared very organized,

On April 11th, 2017 in the Louis Armstrong Theatre, I attended the GVSU “University Band”. This up-beat ensemble lasted about 90 minutes; the talented students of GVSU’s university band joined together to perform multiple different songs ranging from a Waltz to a Dixieland Jamboree. All of the songs that the band played for the audience were all well-known, popular songs that they all enjoyed. Having the opportunity to attend this concert has opened new musical paths for myself and has allowed me to enjoy and kindly critique something that I perhaps would have never had the chance to otherwise.

It is Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Mesa, Arizona. A large crowd occupies large spaces all over downtown attending different stages of the first Mesa Musical Festival. Facing the Automotive Callahan Stage at Il Vinaio Restaurant, and only moments after a Rock 'n Roll band finish its performance, the place begins to fill with a public made up of many familiar faces. Voices in Spanish are confused with the English. Suddenly, some musicians begin to take the stage. Six, eight, ten, twelve, fourteen people in total with a lot of musical instruments: keyboards, drums, congas, trumpet, bass, guitars, maracas, cuatro. The music starts, and immediately the public begin jumping, singing,

The concert that I attended was a charity concert, which was organized in Boston at a local university there. The South Asian Student Union of Harvard University organized the concert. I happened to be in Boston and this particular concert was organized for benefit causes such as using the proceeds of the concert to fund a number of poverty alleviation projects in South Asia. The concert was organized in a rather big room, which had a very big podium, as well as at least 500 seats that had been placed in it. Therefore, the overall hall where this concert took place was a typical auditorium setting with seating and a stage at the front. The concert promoters talked about different cause benefits related to alleviation of poverty in South Asia and that’s why the concert was organized. The organizers also informed the audience that the musicians wore traditional clothing so that the audience members could also have a good insight and understanding of the South Asian culture. All of ticket revenues for this concert were then given to a number of charities which then would use those funds to assist the different poverty alleviation programs in the larger South Asian region.

On Thursday, March the 16th at 7 pm, I attended a concert featuring Stephen Beus, at Southeastern Community Colleges’ Auditorium. People were dressed formally, you could tell many people there had attended events like this before. The lighting was focused on the piano and the performer in the middle of the stage, it was completely silent and people applauded only at the end of each music piece.

On Tuesday, Feb 28, the NMSU The Statesmen, Women’s Chorale, Chamber Choir, and University Singers presented a show called The Best of All Possible World, conducted by Christa Fredrickson. They performed various works: MADRIGALS, pieces from musicals, an ORGANUM piece, arranged by Fredrickson herself, as well as sacred text compositions and folk songs.

On 29 January 2016. My friends and I went to a concert performed by Tiffany Austin. The concert was entitled Tiffany Austin’s Blues de Voyage hosted by Presidio Officer’s Club at San Francisco in partnership with the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music. As I attend the concert, I categorize myself as a casual listener to a well performed music. I didn’t have enough knowledge yet back then to analyze critically on the performance as it is my first time attending a house concert. It was an exciting experience and I enjoyed it a lot. The atmosphere was good as everybody in the room also enjoyed the singing and music played by the performers.

Smithville High School presented two winter concerts. I got the opportunity to view both performances. The first show was by the Vocal Music Department directed by Mr. Marcus Duncan and aided by accompanist Emily Rowland, and the second show was by the Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic Band conducted by Mr. Tom Brockman and Ms. Brittany Terwey. There were very similar aspects of the two concerts and very different aspects of the two concerts.

This year I am participating in the Area West Elementary Enrichment Band where I play the clarinet. I am proud of this because it is a large achievement in my passion, music. In grade 6 I was first introduced to the clarinet and instantly fell in love with it. Today I continue to play the same instrument. In Enrichment Band, I get to meet and play alongside other musicians who have the same passion and drive for music that I do. I also get to seek further learning opportunities within the band, such as the mc script I have received for the upcoming concert. Overall, the band is an excellent learning opportunity and I am truly privileged to have that opportunity available to me.

I am pleased to write to you on behalf of Stephen McDougall Graham, who is applying to enter the Master of Music in Classical Performance Program of Queens College. Stephen studied violin with me during his undergraduate years at Bucknell (2001-05), and played in the Bucknell Orchestra, an ensemble that I conduct.

The concert could be define as the act of performing in public. In order to our music appreciation class to synchronize the theory to the practice. We, students, have been requited by our instructor to write a concert review as an assignment. It is in that sense that I went to the Levitt pavilion and attend to Walt wilkins & mystiqueros.

On Saturday April 29 in the downtown area of Las Cruces I went to the country music festival. The band I went to go see was the Eli young band. The band was American country band made of a lead singer who also played guitar, as well two more members playing bass guitar, and electric guitar, piano as well as a drummer. There was so many people to see Eli young band I was scared I was going to be crushed being so closed on the stage. I don’t remember the title of the first song they played but it was more of a rock country then regular country and I liked it. It was something different to hear. People assume all country sounds the same, but they really mixed it with more a modern day country. From the beginning the one the guitar had an amazing

The concert that I attended was on November 14th, 2017, on a Tuesday night. Those that were performing were the Chamber Ensemble of Kutztown University. The Concert began at 7:30 p.m., and concluded at 8:30 p.m. When the concert was just beginning I was unsure of what to expect, besides the obviousness of a piano portion to the whole event, because there was one sitting in the center of the stage.

Gerry Genuario was an influential drum player in Reno until he died. The concert held by the percussion ensemble, which was a tribute to his life and art of music. The percussion ensemble was held in a big concert hall venue that is for bigger bands and conductors, consisted of sheet music and songs that are highly arranged but also implemented complex measures, virtuosic solos, and use of unique instruments. The performance was intended for bigger audiences that are listeners instead of dancers.

I cannot believe what my eyes have witnessed. On February 24, 2017, I had the opportunity to volunteer and to witness a Stax Music Academy concert. Every year in February, the Stax Music Academy pays tribute to legendary music artist by performing some of the most iconic songs that were sung during the late 50’s - early 90’s. This year, the Stax Music Academy did an R&B concert based on the Stax Volt tour, which included people like, Otis Redding, The Barkays, The Staple singers, and more. This concert was sold out, and the crowd really enjoyed themselves.
