Even though he was a fantastic muckraker he had his beliefs that separated him from other people. For instance, around 1916 Lincoln Steffens took a trip to Mexico to gather information of an article about the Mexican American tension. But instead he decided to take Mexico’s side of things, because of their unique universal designs. Another example was when he died in 1936 at the age of seventy. He was convinced that liberal democracy was dead, and that communism was inevitable. He believed that because of his 1921 trip to Russia with his new wife Ella Winter, and a few others. He originally was there with William Bullitt, who was Secretary of State at the time, they were sent to negotiate with the Russians, and Steffens started to grow fonder of the Russians. After that trip he became a man of the communists. But, at the same time, he did help stop the

Today when Americans go to work, they have many protections, so that they are safe, not overworked, and paid justly. However, around the turn of the century the same could not be said. Lincoln Steffens saw the corruption and inhumane working conditions in the workplace, and in government and decided to use his platform to expose this and make positive change occur. Lincoln hailed from a wealthy family and became immersed in radical politics. He attended the university of California and then went to study with “ Wilhelm Wundt in Leipzig and with Jean-Martin Charcot in Paris” () This is where he developed his love for radical politics and exposing the truth about corruption.

Faced with the potential dissolution of the Union and overthrow of the govt., Lincoln acted and reacted by making new limits of authority and leadership beneath the pressure of dire civil strife. The nation, after all, was undergoing a civil war-something that no previous president had been forced to cope with and one thing that the commencement Fathers had not specifically provided for within the Constitution. Circumstances forced Lincoln to be innovative, and he even his growth of authority by invoking a brand new interpretation of the presidential oath relating to the Constitution itself.

In the North many people agreed that is was fair to let the slaves be free, but for the south who need slaves for picking cotton were not so happy. At a time of slavery and many conflicting ideas, the United States was falling apart and at its most divided time ever. As the elected president in 1861, Abraham Lincoln had to fix the issues that the country was facing. Some of those issues included slavery, the separation of the north and south, and the Civil War itself. Abraham Lincoln is probably one of the most celebrated figures in American history. Lincoln is seen today as a man of rare ability and character who shaped the United States in his image, to the benefit of all Americans who came after him. This man went from rural Kentucky, a son of parents of low social bearing and minimal education, to being a figurehead of the Whig party in the General Assembly. He was then elected to the U.S. Congress, which didn’t work out for him and caused Lincoln to continue his career as a lawyer. A few year later, through luck and talent Lincoln won the Republican nomination for presidency in 1860.

Do you know who was the most famous and influential president of the United States is? He is a man that freed all of the African Americans and ended slavery for good. Abraham Lincoln was elected president during one of the most critical times ever. The north and the south were in conflict and soon war broke out, and a stressed Lincoln had to think of what to do. Abraham Lincoln knew he had to act fast to control the war and hopefully keep the south from winning their “Independence.”

Also, many remember him as the one who pushed for the freedom of all slaves. In this paper, my goal is to recognize everything Lincoln did to be known as one of the most influential presidents the United States of America ever had. To see all the important things he did as president, we shall go back and look at his life before president to see what experiences and things he overcame to have a successful career. He did not have the easiest life which is why it is interesting how much he helped America out as a country.

Abraham Lincoln influenced america and other historical figures. Martin Luther King Jr. and Lincoln were one of the most prominent leaders when it came to slavery. He showed courage to stand up for what’s right and fight against for what’s wrong. Without Abe Lincoln we would not be in the position and success we have in the modern world (smithsonian). Abe Lincoln was a “Progressive man”, he made strides to free the slaves and to abolish slavery(smithsonian1). He was one of the most known and recognized leaders in american history.

Abraham Lincoln is known as the sixteenth president of the United States. A self-taught lawyer by trade who was born in a one room cabin in Kentucky, he came from meek beginnings. Mr. Lincoln was only known to have a few years of formal schooling he had to work to help support his family. He moved to the capital of Illinois and practiced as a lawyer. This is where he earned his nick name of Honest Abe. He was known to help the common man. He met and married a woman named Mary Todd. They had four sons. One of which passed away with Typhoid fever. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth in Ford’s theater on April 14, 1865 and died the very from a gunshot to the head. He never lived to see the Union win the war with the plans he helped devise. He next day is known in history for his moving speeches. Two of the main speeches are the Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation. Both of these are remembered today as turning points in history. Honest Abe was not only our president but a leader in that he felt like he needed to protect our constitution and the rights it afforded us but also protect the Union. He was a level headed man in a time of war and conflict. He was elected to office when the Union was in a state of unrest due to the issue of slavery. Several states succeeded when he was elected to office. This set up a series of events that lead to the beginning of the civil war. The steps that he took forever changed the history of the United States.
