Music junkies, concert connoisseurs, and vinyl vigilantes everywhere need to know about the similarities and differences between the alternative rock and indie rock genres. The genres alternative and indie are terms sometimes used interchangeably, but their origins are indeed differing. There has been a varying progression of media platforms used to listen to these genres among the past few decades due to society’s social and economic changes. In terms of instrumental progressions and technological buildups in the music world, the instruments and stylings used to define these genres has changed as well. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, alternative rock is defined as “a style of rock music characterized as unconventional, or outside the mainstream which resonated powerfully with a generation weathering an economic recession.” Conversely, Oxford explains the term indie as “the deliberately unpolished or
The concert, “Masterpieces by American Women Composers!,” was held in the Horace C. Cabe Great Hall Regional Arts Center. The concert was a semiformal event with about 30 people in attendance. The pianist who performed that night was Dr. Linda Holzer, who is a professor of music at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and she performed on a baby grand piano. She is from Chicago and has many degrees in piano performance from three different University’s, the Northwestern University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Florida State University. Dr. Holzer has performed in many different countries including China, Slovakia, Australia, and New York. The pieces that Dr. Holzer performed that night
I don’t really have a specific genre of music I listen to and instead just listen to whatever sounds good hittin’ my ears. My music recommendation gotta be an artist that went by Nujabes. He specializes in making beats, but sometimes teams up with other artists making some absolutely mint tunes. I, of course, do have pictures of myself at home. Though, they’re not the most recent. As for hobbies I’m into gaming, PC building, and, when I have the time, reading. When I can afford the money and time I plan on expanding this list.
stuff, so I don't listen to that genre all that much, but there are many
There are only a few genres I choose not to listen to at all; otherwise, I can enjoy almost any form of music. I like country music because that is what my Dad always listened to. Although what was his country music was and what mine is today, is much different, my choice roots from my childhood exposure (Detrick, “Music History”). The two components I tend to enjoy most when listening to music are Tone and Rhythm (Detrick, “Music History”). I enjoy the way they make the stories being told, come together and make the song sound
I like to listen to a lot of Future, Meek Mill, Fab, Gucci, just a little bit of everybody
1) My favorite type of music is hip hop. I grew up listening to great hip hop artists such as Eminem, Drake, and Lil Wayne. I like this kind of music so much because I can express myself through listening to hip hop. All my family and friends listen to hip hop also.
From Tokyo to Africa, all around the world people listen to music. Generally depending on where people or live their culture, will generally set the the music that will be listened to. There are many genres of music including jazz, metal, pop, rap, and soul, but out of the many genres the type that appeals the most to me is alternative rock. Alternative rock is a genre of music that emerged in the 1980’s and started blooming in society and culture in the early 2000’s. The widely know most attractive feature of this genre is how diverse and unique the music is.
Music has a big impact on my life, it is one of my favorite things in the world. My music library is so diverse, so it is hard for me to pick my favorite genre, from hip hop to rock to country. I find it all tasteful. If I had to say may favorite though it would be alternative rock, mostly because my favorite band is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their bass lines are amazing, and their music has so much heart and emotion in it, it’s something that everyone can jam along to. My least favorite would have to be screamo, an off shoot of metal. It is just too angry and you cannot understand anything the singer is saying, it isn’t something that is easy for me to appreciate. The Hobbit is my favorite book, the ore behind it keeps me interested and the way it is written is a completely different style than today’s writing. The writing style almost seems archaic but it has an elegance to it that is extremely difficult to achieve.
I like to listen to all different types of music, but my favorite is country, rock and an oder band called the Beatles. My mom and dad have listened to all genres of music since I was little and I’ve been listening to them every since. My mom listens to the Beatles and rock mostly. She has a first edition Beatles record that is never not playing in my house. My family and I don't like new rock that people listen to, these day’s. Instead we love to listen to what I call old school rock like offspring, nickelback, and Metallica. My dad on the other hand, he loves country! He started to listen to country when he was young. He has 6 siblings and they all listen to country still to this day. Music has such a big impact to my life because I listen to it everyday and my family and I are always singing to every song we hear or that is on are
Music is well known around the world obviously. Great hits are heard more often than regular songs. I personally don’t hear any of those songs, more often like rock n’ roll or hardcore. I hear songs that relate to how i feel most of the time and they express my emotions in ways that are helpful. I listen to the lyrics because they hold deep meaning that i'm sure you all do. I’m sure that everyone has their own genre of music that they listen to. Music is an amazing thing that has been created in my opinion. And here are some genres that i tend to kinda relate to.
While walking today as I normally do, I turned around and your face came into my view. I could only imagine what was wrong with her. But at the end I understood what was wrong with her, it was music. This is what music does to people and I love it for that. Music makes people feel good inside so much that it might even hurt. Throughout my life, music has always been a major influence. It has the power to change my mood when I 'm feeling down. Music is a cure for when I’m down and a joy for my happiest days. It’s part of my life and can express my feelings when my own words are not enough. There’s a song to every feeling I feel and I’ve yet to find them all. I can 't remember the exact day I started listening to music,
There are a lot of music genres that a person can choose to listen to rap and R&B, rock, country, etc. The music genre that I prefer I listen to anytime or anywhere is that I am always in the mood want to listen to is country music.
There are many genres from alternate to blues to hard rock. My personal favorite is Guns ‘N Roses which is a hard rock band. Hard rock is highly amplified rock music with a hard beat. Blues is more of soft music. Alternative is basic rock music.
With a great deal of different genres of music available for listening to, each genre must effect, shape, and allow for the expression of personality to be contrasting with each of the different genres of music that are available to us. In a recent study executed by Yair Neuman, Leonid Perlovsky, Yochai Cohen and Danny Livshits, from the Department of Education & Homeland Security Institute, based their experiment on “a very specific research question: Do personality types differ in terms of their essays’ similarity to the lyrics of various music genres?” (4). They set up their experiment to solely test whether a person’s personality can be directly affected by certain types of music. Their experiment concluded “…all results were statistically
