“ ‘ “ What pieces of literature have you been reading lately? How are the pieces of the poems or packets of short stories you read, affected you emotionally? There are some poems and short stories that are interesting. However, the most interesting poems that make you feel something in a way, is called “Vow “ and “Macavity: The Mystery Cat”. The poem Vow, is from a prisoner's point of view of how they survived and what struggles they faced, while in the. poem, Macavity: The Mystery Cat, is about a cat named Macavity, a neglected, smart, and mysterious cat criminal, and how he is very clever to leave any evidence of his crime. Both poems would not be the same if it were not for the fact of the uses of literary devices to bring out specific emotions within us. Without the use of the literary device, the poems we read today would not have the same spice we expect it would have. Vow is a deep, forlorn poem with little words that often have deeper meanings. It tells the view of prisoners at Alcatraz, and the harsh life they went through. The poem tells of how they all suffered from the heart because of seeing everyone in their joy, while they had to suffer the long, somber nights alone. At the end of the poem, the prisoners left a strong message stating,” We will not die on this rock. “ ( Line 19, The Vow ) This showed the unwavering determination of the prisoners as they withstood every torture Alcatraz had thrown to them, because of their
