A Long Walk To Water Literary Analysis Essay The book, A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park shows us that perseverance is the key to success and not to give up. In this essay Salva is running from part of the war to go to a camp in Ethiopia earlier in the story. “ Salva saw all of this in one glance then he was running too, Running has hard has he could into the bush.” (Park 7) Salva is running away into the bush from the people shooting at the town. He wanted to leave for his own safety but he was leaving his family behind. Slava’s group runs into a group of people forcing them into the lake and Salva has to get across to survive . “The rain, the mad current, the bullets, the crocodiles, the welter of legs and arms… the screams of blood I have to get across some how.” (Park 79) …show more content…

“The men laying on the hot sand and his own mouth felt so dry that he nearly choked when he tried to swallow. If you give them water you will not have enough for yourself, you will die.” (Park 56) Salva had to keep walking and not give people water because if he did give them water he would have died along with them. In order to survive he had to keep his water and keep walking. Salva felt sorry for the people on the ground but for his own survival he had to keep going. Salva was making a hard decision about leaving his family to go to America or to stay and try to find his family “Salva was going to America.” (Park 89) On the way to New York, Salva got a Coca Cola and it reminded him of his family “With each sip he remembered his family passing the bottles of Coca Cola hand to hand laughing at the tickly bubbles” (Park 93) Salva decided to go to America in order to survive. He felt sad because he was leaving without being able to find his family. He did not know if they were alive or dead. Salva knows that sometimes he has to make hard decisions in order to
