Cheyanne Wolfe Mr.Berres English II Period 1 26 September 2015 Lord of The Flies In the book Lord of The Flies By: William Golding, the time frame of book was written while World War II was occurring, and was a pessimistic time. In the book literary devices come into true meaning and convey Ralph's physical and mental view of being abandoned on this mysterious island. This is where his emotions show why the author chose these literary devices. The author displays various literary devices throughout Chapter 5 of Lord of The Flies; Such as similes, personification, imagery, and metaphors to identify Ralph's knowledge that the island is perhaps his final destination. In the book, Ralph speaks up and takes control in his leadership
Through word choice , actions, looks and thoughts, the character of of Ralph is introduced , explained developed over the course of the of the text it reveals his attitude. In the novel ralph finds the conch in the lagoon covered in seaweed ,and then learns how to make a sound when he blows in it. Then they start arguing about whos chief and they chose ralph but a few chapters later they argue over who has the right to be chief . The novel then states “"All this I meant to say. Now I've said it. You voted me for chief. Now you do what I say."They quieted, slowly, and at last were seated again. Ralph dropped down and spoke in his ordinary voice.” this piece of evidence shows how ralph is not wanting to step down his role of being chief and that he is a strong character with a strong personality. Also in the book at a time when ralph is lacking the actions of a good chief, he wants to prove he is the chief by wanting to go check for the beast up on the mountain."I'm chief. We've got to make certain that there is no beast. Can't you see the mountain? There's no signal showing. There may be a ship out there. Are you all off your rockers?" this evidence shows ralph's personality by, Ralph learning that just saying "I'm chief" isn't enough, you have to have people to enforce your system of laws and order.
This passage probably the most powerful one in the whole novel. In this specific passage, which is also the second to last one in the book, Ralph realizes that yes, he is being rescued and saved but that he has changed a lot and he will never be the same person again. Ralph also became aware of the fact that he lost his innocence in that island, and learned about the evil that hides inside every human being. The three literary element in this passage are figurative language, theme and character development. This paragraph has figurative language because ralph said the island was scorched up, comparing it to dead wood. Character development in my opinion is the most important literary element in this passage. Ralphs attitude and personality
The ability to create characters of depth plagues many modern writers. Ralph’s character exemplifies an author’s superior style of character development. In “The Lord of the Flies,” a novel by William Golding from 1954, Ralph’s character changed from negative, positive and neutral. In this novel, there are five main moments that defines Ralph’s character the most. These shows how Ralph’s character evolve throughout the novel.
INTRODUCTIONNNN William Golding does a terrific job of detailing the changes of Ralph throughout Lord of the Flies. Ralph is introduced as a very likable character who replaces the parents of the boys. He was accepted amongst the group and had very good leadership skills. Ralph's development and his actions throughout the story are a very strong representation of how the boys become corrupt, because they have no parents with them. The reader is introduced to Ralph and his significance towards the beginning of the novel.
Adversity is presented in many forms during ‘Lord of the Flies’ for the main character Ralph. It comes not only in the form of other people but a corruption of what society the boys on the island have managed to hold onto.
In Chapter 2 of William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies,” an example of imagery is clearly evident. The quote, stated by a narrator in the third-person point of view, “The silence was so complete that they could hear the unevenness of Piggy’s breathing,” gives the reader an idea that the scene is deathly quiet (Golding 34). However, Piggy’s breathing can be heard in the silence because of his asthma, as well as the fear inside him. This is due to Ralph saying that nobody knows where he and his fellow schoolchildren are, and they could be stranded on the island for a very long time. Originally, the children were on a flight for a school trip, however the airplane crashed onto the island.
“We have disharmony in our natures. We cannot live together without injuring each other “
Lord of the Flies is a novel written by William Golding. It is about british schoolboys who are stranded on an island after their plane is shot down. They are on the island with no adult supervision. Their group is civilized but turns to savagery. In Lord of the Flies, Golding uses the characters of Ralph, Jack, and Roger to symbolize that there are violence, evil, savagery, and good that exist in every society.
The novel Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding is a very iconic book in my opinion. This novel consists mostly of symbolism. Lord of the Flies talked about the relationship of teenage boys who survived a plane crash together. The boys are all on their own and struggling. They encounter many incidences that comply symbolism. A couple of the acts of symbolism are the beast the boys kept imagining, Piggy’s glasses, and the conch. The boys are all afraid of the beast, Piggy’s glasses demonstrate the fact that he saw everything more clear then the boys and how he started the fire. Lastly, the last of the most important symbolisms in the novel is the conch, showing the civilization and order.
Humans develop in societies with rules, order and government, but humans are not perfect, they have many deficiencies so do the societies they live in. When a group of schoolboys land on a tropical island, Ralph takes on the role of leader by bringing all of the boys together and organizing them. He first explains “There aren’t any grownups. We shall have to look after ourselves.”(p.33), this brings up the question if the boys will have prosperity or will they succumb to the evil on the island. At first the young boys start being successful and civilized, but chaos soon overruns them and evil starts to lurk over the island. The fictional story of the group of British schoolboys stranded on an island and the decisions they make, relates back
C. “Piggy and Ralph found themselves eager to take a place in this demented but partly secure society.” Ralph and Piggy want to be part of “the tribe.” Need to belong has superseded the spirit of civilization, the need for order. Piggy and Ralph are victims of peer pressure. It is no longer safe to be outside the tribe. It is no longer safe to have individual thoughts; the tribe functions as a single entity.
Lord of the flies is a classic fictional novel written by William Golding which discusses the classic tale about a group of English schoolboys who are left stranded on an unpopulated island after a plane wreck without an adult supervision. Literary devices enhance the author’s craft at least three times in Lord of the flies(Chapter Three). Literary devices are used to help the author create a mood of excitement and to show what every sentence symbolizes. Literary devices enhance the writer’s craft because it adds excitement and suspension to the story.

Ralph is a character in Lord Of The Flies who develops as the novel progresses. In the novel Lord Of The Flies, the author, William Golding tries to convey to the reader with lots of messages.
In chapter 4, Golding uses words that are very descriptive but at the same time, he uses words that are restless and scary. For example, "the sun gazed down like an angry eye" (Golding 82). This shows that the sun was angry at them. Golding also uses a peaceful description, but it also has a restless undertone. For example, "snapping sharks; floods of light; odd succession of mirrors" (Golding 81). These words make the peaceful description strange and unpleasing. But overall, I liked the way Golding wrote this chapter because it is quite descriptive and understandable.
Nowadays, there are several illicit drugs such as marijuana, heroin, cocaine that are used in some area in the United States. Those drugs influence people every day of their life. They also affect people whether they are using them, drugs dealer, victims of drugs related crime or dealing with family members’ addiction. On the other hands, the government spends much money for education, medical, technology and recycles. Besides these issues, the government also spends billions of dollars for drug laws enforcement to against them and drug fighting. Since drugs are unsafe, the prohibition is an answer to this problem. The government of the United States should consider to legalizing those drugs. Although some people oppose that drugs legalizing drugs will increases the number of users, increases the number of users, and make more people addictive; however it can be true that legalizing drugs will increase the economic, reduce the corruption of officers, and save tax money.
