The short story “A Rose for Emily”, by William Faulkner, tells the life of a lady that lived in a small town. Faulkner takes the reader through the life of Miss Emily through the eyes of the townspeople rather than Miss Emily herself. The author uses specific literary devices to help the mood be better viewed by the reader. Faulkner uses devices such as: setting, flashbacks, and symbolism to help create the overall mood in “A Rose for Emily”.
