Students littering is the main issue among many schools nowadays. Littering and other food wastes are hazardous to the campus environment as well as to the society. The problem in the community is the littering is being done around the school campuses. As one can notice cigarettes butts are everywhere we see around us, littering might seem harmless to some people, hence bad for others and sometimes can be very dangerous for the living species around everyone. Students these days do not care about their individual responsibilities as their priority. They should attain their responsibility as an adult and should try to solve this problem. There are many resources that can be applied to fix this problem. The most obvious solution to the littering …show more content…
However, in some cases students consider it’s not the same. Not many students think how adults think even though they are in college, their thinking are different despite of fact that “Littering continues to be a problem on campus, (Petty par 2)”. said one of the resource recovery supervisor, Jason Rexrode. This problem seems to arise a lot, since students are caring less about it. For many students littering is like a daily thing, because they are used to throwing trash everywhere and running away from their responsibilities. As stated by Rexrode, most of the litter we see is in the parking lots and most of the times during the weekends. Higher amounts of litter take place because of so many people at the athletic events. This is correct; if there is a huge crowd, then there is obviously going to be a lot trash, and it can sometimes go bad. People would enjoy their events, sports and any other extra curriculum activities and leave but, don’t think about the amount of trash and litter they are leaving behind. This can put a lot of strain on janitors and custodians who incessantly try to clean it all day long. Also sometimes restroom trash cans are full of trash and much trash is found on the floor. This can also spread little disease because of the bacteria that is produced out of …show more content…
This is very typical problem for students all the time. Students don’t think there are enough garbage cans on campus, because people walk few step without noticing a trash can or recycling bin, they will throw their trash on the ground. Even though trash cans are nearby sometimes, people choose not to walk by and throw their trash away. I have experienced this before and even I have also done it. This can relate to lazy people as well who leave their trash behind instead of wrapping after finishing work and throwing it away. These type of behaviors and habits can sometimes come from their upbringings. Habits can shape the personality of the person, also many characteristics of the person are emulated from its behavior and things they do. Children learn everything by looking and observing activities that happen surround them. So, if a child were raised by a very unmannered and careless family then the outcomes are obviously going to be worst, those children cannot change after they are teens or adult, they will remain same as well as their habits and behavior. Therefore; parents should develop some good habits for their kids when they are
I believe that this problem can be solved because they have been starting to involve students in recycling in the lunchroom and around their school. In General I believe that people will start to see that we need to do more recycling when all of our backyards become landfills.
Littering can be a major fire hazard, all its takes is one discarded cigarette butt into a pile rubbish to ignite a towering inferno of sadness. If we litter too much garbage will pile up and will grow a harmful bacteria which would make us sick. It
Have you ever thought about what your community would look like without litter? If so, it may take a while to find out. One person throwing something on the ground may not think much of it, however, when that trash finds other trash, they begin to build up and make big piles of junk. For example, I am sure people never thought that if they littered, their trash would end up in the pacific garbage patch. Believe it or not, no one thinks that until you look at the pacific garbage patch and see how disgusting it looks just because people were to lazy to throw their trash away. To make matters worse, littering has become very common, which should be stopped because in most cases, trash is not disposed of properly,
Eighner has written an article called “On Dumpster Diving” were he talks about the life of dumpster diving and about all the valuable things people throw away. In his article, he mentions college student and all the things they throw out. Mainly how they throw out fresh food and things they just don’t need anymore. Many college students do tend to throw out fresh food when the semester is about to end or when they are going on break, they also throw away things they don’t want their parents to see. Eighner makes his points reasonable when he talks about college students and the items they throw away, but it seems like he was being a bit harsh on his points, making college students seem selfish and like if they only go to college to act wild.
Pollution is an issue that could potentially cause damage and recycling conveys an important role. An issue we currently phase is trash segregation, students aren’t recycling or separating trash as they should. As mentioned earlier, mindset is just as important as action - they have careless, ignorant mentalities. What my project proposes, are two main part the action and the mentality transformation. The action idea is to develop as community service recicle trashcans with that from the outside look the same as what its entering in them, an example could be a trash can full that physically look like a plastic bottle, so students only troth there there plastic
Have you ever walked around a school campus just minutes after the lunch break? Well if you have, you may have observed the absurd amount of wasted food spilling out of trash cans and scattered around the concrete floors. It makes you realize how much food we waste daily, and how preventable that is. With that, it is mandatory that Mills High School should be required to have composting and more recycling bins around campus, this would be beneficial to our planet and the upcoming generations.
People are constantly throwing trash outside their window when they are driving down the street or throwing trash on the ground when they are walking. As minor as littering is, there are long term effects. Trash that ends up in the storm drains, eventually make it’s way into the ocean. Once the trash is in the ocean, it can eventually make its way into a whales blowhole, or can be consumed by an animal; which could harm them. Also, trash that makes it’s way into lakes and oceans is very difficult to remove. If you cannot remove the trash, how are you going to prevent these animals from getting
It may seem harmless and innocent, but littering is an unhealthy habit people of all ages in each country do every day. Littering is a second nature to some people; after doing it for so long and often, they do not realize they do it. As more and more people continue to litter, environments, animals, and humans are being harmed by people’s carless actions. Americans, as well as all humans, need to be more aware of how hazardous and costly littering is to the world and the creatures living in it. Littering shows lack of respect for the world, and needs to be prevented in order for future generations to live in a clean and healthy environment.
There a lot of reasons why recycling is important in our community and especially at schools, hospitals, and in households. The success of a recycling depends on the active and continuous participation of people with the correct separation and collection of recyclable waste. Recycling is something that everyone can all do. Children that are school age and older can help out too. The goal is to stop tossing out items that can be use again and again. Recycling in schools help to improve the environment and can reduce money spent by the school on waste disposal. Paper is the main form of waste created by schools, making up
One of the most prominent issues in the American society is not an economic or social problem, but the lack of recycling in America and the effect it is having on the environment and the people. This lack of recycling can be found in businesses and schools across America who could benefit from some sort of recycling program installed. The benefits of a well placed and organized recycling program can be endless from scholarships to the benefits it can have on the environment by saving trees and reducing the space need to dispose all the trash. South Caldwell High School is one of these schools across the country that is at a loss because of its lack of a recycling program and many other schools and businesses in Caldwell county are not reaping
Littering is one of the biggest environmental issues we face today. Littering affects us all, from humans to animals and our surroundings. The careless act of littering from a simple piece of plastic thrown on the ground can clog storm drains or that piece of plastic may go straight to the ocean and harm wildlife. Littering is a health hazard which causes harmful bacteria and germs. Removing litter from the environment costs everyone money. Littering is the most important environmental issue our nation is facing because it is done so easily and carelessly. People do not realize how much we spend on cleaning litter every year or how it affects us all. The practice has become second nature, we have avoided to educate ourselves on how this affects us in the long run. Littering needs to be minimized or if possible, completely stopped if we could help it because we are doing more harm to the earth.
People tossing out trash means that they don’t care what happens to it as long as it’s out of their car or house. People should think of the impact they can cause the environment if they recycle properly, reusing water bottles, and when they go grocery shopping bring a reusable bags that won’t be thrown out into streams and lakes that will cause pollution to the environment. If someone throws garbage where it shouldn’t belong then throw it out for them to keep the environment clean.
I remember my first semester here at the University and the dark halls of the Bates House Residence Hall. Many a party was concluded with an idea for what to do with the endless piles of cans that had congregated on the floor. One idea, I remember, was to wall someone into his room and another was to see how many we could stand on end without toppling. But, we usually just ended up throwing them in the trashcans in our refuse room. Sometimes out of the five trashcans in the room set aside for trash disposal, three or four would be completely filled with hundreds of cans of various beverages. Upon further contemplation, I can also remember the small, blue bucket that was thrown
Smoking, as one knows it, has become a stress-reliever worldwide. One will find a smoker pulling out a cigarette and lighting it up around every corner. Smoking has especially become a growing problem in college campuses. When a college student enters the college campus, they do not only enter a new campus, a new life is also entered. In this new experience, one will find themselves exploring new things. The power of the eye is remarkable in today’s society. When someone has a friend that is doing something, the one looking will eventually want to try as well. This can raise many red flags that can be avoided, simply by banning smoking on all college campuses. Smoking on college campuses should be banned because of nicotine’s negative effect on student’s personalities, academics, and overall health.
It is evident that even students of elite schools throw garbage on the ground even in the presence of garbage bins. This shows our attitude towards cleanliness and hygiene.
