Little Caesar Essay In the movie Little Caesar the plot is based on the rise and fall of crime lord Rico Bandello (played by Edward Robinson), and his friend Joe who eventually wants to leave the business in crime. The movie starts with a slow shot of a gas station. A car drives up, and the cashier working there is shoved in the store as three gunshots ring out. It then goes to a shot of Rico and Joe in a diner talking about a successful gangster named Pete Montana. They decide to move to the city. There, Rico wants to be like Pete, and Joe wants find a girl he loves and be a dancer after his time with the gang. Rico doesn’t like this idea of Joe’s and dismisses it saying tit wasn’t important. He gives a speech and has his picture taken by numerous magazines. The cops come but have no evidence and as a result can’t do anything to Rico. A little while after the banquet Joe hears Arnie talking about killing Rico, Joe then calls Rico and tells him of his threat. Rico who is not scared by this buys newspapers featuring him and then walks down the road guardless as a car drives by and shoots at him. Rico shouts that they are bad shots although his arm was hit. He swears to get Arnie back and in the next scene drives Arnie out of town and takes over for him. Now that he has replaced Arnie his new boss is a man who goes by the nickname of Big Boy. When he goes to his boss’s house the next day, his passion for fanciful things is apparent but he cannot respect them. For example he admires a pictures gold frame but not the picture and he scatters cigar ash onto the rug. However Rico gets offered Pete’s territory and shakes Big Boy’s hand, sealing the deal. A title card shot says that Rico continues to take care of himself and his hair and gun, it then shows Rico inside a mansion that is almost the same as Pete’s. Joe is invited to his mansion, when he arrives Rico tries to get him to rejoin the gang and is offered a position as partner. Despite this he still refuses and Rico becomes angry and hurt, he then threatens to kill Olga. At this point Joe says he loves her, this drives
