Marching band consists of musicians who march in either a military style or corps style on a field. The musicians put on a show with music, marching, and visuals, and compete in competitions. Marching bands usually wear uniforms with their organization's colors, marching shoes, hats, plumes, etc. In a high school or college marching band, putting together a show is an important part of football games. On the other hand, concert band or a symphonic band is a sit-down ensemble that generally plays classic music and concert marches.

This article is about the Big Band Sounds. Big band music got its origins in Swing and Jazz. This type of music was most popular in the 1930's and 1940's. Big Bands usually consisted of anywhere from 10 to 25 instruments. Some of the great musical sound and some of the great musicians associated with it Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington.

Big Band was performed in a group with ten or more musicians. Instruments included saxophone, trumpets, piano, drums, guitar and bass. The musicians of big band jazz collaborated to create swing music it was a success and jazz fans danced into the late 1940s.

This includes the piano all the way to the backup singers. The lead guitar usually plays single notes within the melody. The rhythm guitar usually play chords in a rhythmic pattern. The bass guitar typically provides a strong beat with the drummer. This usually is going to always be related to the rhythm.

Many speakeasies, or illegal nightclubs where alcoholic beverages were sold during the Prohibition era, were opened to accommodate the growing party crowds [Dictionary.com]. In The Great Gatsby, jazz music was used to calm party guests and create a welcoming and fun atmosphere. In the book, Gatsby says,“We'll have Klipspringer play the piano,” and Nick mentions the use of a full band, “by seven o’clock the orchestra has arrived, no thin five-piece affair, but a whole pitful of oboes and trombones and saxophones and viols and cornets and piccolos, and low and high drums.” These musicians did not make up a soporific symphonic orchestra. This orchestra played swinging and dance-worthy music that induced excitement and joviality in partygoers.

The education that is enforce in our band is to be able to hear every instrument that is playing. If a certain instrument has a solo we are automatic suppose to play soft. There is a diagram in the concert band activity that we are suppose to follow. The type of music that is played in concert band is mostly classical. The uniform we wear is always slacks with a black blouse but it has to be black no matter what.

When the question is brought up, “What does band mean to you?” I immediately think of the responsibility, hard work, and dedication and band has given me the chance to learn and strengthen. In addition to these life skills are many others, such as leadership, teamwork, and friendship. The Force has made more than just a difference in my high school career, it has impacted my life and has provided me with skills that will follow me throughout my life. Band means to supporting each other as we work through the hard times and grow closer as a family. Band means working hard and taking on responsibility for yourself. It also means being dependable, that people can count on you and your ability to achieve the unthinkable.

The “Freer Dagger,” called such because it resides in the collection of the Freer Gallery, is 38.0 cm long, and weighs approximately 500 gm with sheath. The blade is made up of curved watered steel that has been ribbed. The handle and sheath are similarly made of watered steel, that is applied to a wooden core. The watered steel has been chased and inlaid with gold. The handle and sheath are decorated with both raised and inlayed floral motifs, vegetal scrolls and calligraphy, precisely rendered, as if it were a page in an illuminated manuscript. This semester I have experience many live musical performances. Some of these performances have let me down but for the most part, these performances have been everything I ever expected. My two favorite performances this semester were Festival Vallenato and Ultra Music Festival. Although these two types of music are different in every way possible, the people and the performers are exactly where I feel I am in the right place.

Unfortunately, statistics exposes male leaders have a tendency to engage in organizational revenge as well at interpersonal violence more so than women (Chavan, 2015). Even though the leadership approaches of males and females are greatly contrasting, both may by capable of becoming transformational or transactional leaders.
