Living as Children of Light God has given us through His grace and mercy the gift of new life in Christ Jesus. In this new life with Jesus we are to put off the old sinful self and become a new creature in Christ. We are to become Christ like creatures. We should redirect our thoughts toward heaven and not toward earth. The new creature’s behavior, conservation, and walk should exemplify Christ. This new creature in Christ no longer is restrained by the law as an unbeliever, but the believer is saved by grace. As a new creature in Christ our greatest desire should be to please Christ.
Paul asked these questions “are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it” (Romans 6: 1-7, NABS )? Paul is very concerned about the salvation of the believer. Paul believes all that are saved have been baptized, died and resurrected through Jesus. Thus, we are to be in His likeness. The old self was crucified with Him. We are no longer to continue in our sinful (flesh), but instead in Christlikeness in order to inherit eternal life. Paul discusses how we are to live according to Christ Jesus. This way of living is expressed in Galatians 5:22-23. These two passages in the writings of Paul will assist in our decision to continue in sin, or be dead in sin and alive with Christ.
