Far too often in our selfish-minded culture, we forget to be thankful for the many blessings we have. There is a roof over my head, clothes on my back, food on the table, and I've never gone hungry. I'm thankful that I am homeschooled; I do not have to deal with bullies at school and I am able to have a more flexible schedule so that I have an increased amount of free time to spend with family. I am also thankful for my little sister and my parents who care for me and work hard to provide me with everything I need and want. In addition, I feel grateful for my artistic and musical talent. Being thankful for what you already posses is essential for living a happy life, as it is healthy to focus on the things you already have and to not focus on the things others have. In the story “Marigolds” by Eugenia W. Collier and the story “The Monkey’s Paw” by W.W. I enjoy going to Red River Gorge with my hammock and just the minimal camping gear. This is my time to get back to earth, my time to find my own peace. The time I spend in the wilderness is the time I relieve my stress. I sit and look upon all of God’s great gifts and creations. At Red River Gorge I can sit in silence all day and ponder over all of its beauty, all of its feelings, and smells. At this time I concentrate on my breath and the feelings my body has. I try to not think of my life’s problems. Instead, I try only live in the moment and be thankful for the time I
First and foremost, I am thankful for being alive and for being accepted and loved for who I am. I am thankful for having food health. The Linville Gorge, which is also known as “The Grand Canyon of North Carolina”, is astonishingly beautiful. Across the Linville Mountain, there are steep enclosed gorges, breathtaking waterfalls, and large hardwood and pine trees. Because of its largeness and beauty, the Linville Gorge is one of only three officially named wilderness areas in North Carolina. Surprisingly, it’s one out of the only two wilderness gorges in the southern United States. Linville Gorge is located in Burke County, which is near Grandfather Mountain. “The Grand Canyon of North Carolina” is unique, astonishing, and beautiful.
For more than 10,000 years the Native American people of the Columbia River region, specifically the Cayuse, Walla Walla and Umatilla Indian tribes, migrated in a yearly cyclical pattern. The tribes would travel from the lowlands of the Columbia River to the highlands in the Blue Mountains in search of safety, shelter, food, opportunities for trade and resources of energy. The most abundant sources of food included elk, deer, salmon, berries and roots. Each of the aforementioned food sources were spread throughout different locales and thus required a continued pattern of movement, place to place from season to season, to collect each target food. Accumulated meats, berries and roots would be stored for the year to come, and to last through

But beyond this, one of the things that I am very thankful for is my mother teaching me Spanish. In fact, Spanish was my first language and I started to learn English at age 4. While growing up, I never really thought about this as a skill as such, but now that I am planning to study abroad in Italy, I see this as a great starting point for learning Italian. Another thing I am very thankful for is having the opportunity to grow up in two cultures – one at home, and one outside
