Any little technique that you can use in times of stress to keep your mind off things can be very beneficial. Relaxing can be a very important factor for managing stress, and it also feels good.
Drugs and alcohol are very big stressors for people. Most people stress when they wake up with a hangover, or when they’re going through withdrawals from not using drugs. If you’re using prescribed drugs, make sure you take the proper amount; try avoiding over the counter substances and stay well away from illegal substances. It can improve your stress by a landslide. Drugs can be replaced with natural highs, like snowboarding, or painting, whatever makes you happy can give you that mountaintop feeling. Talking to a doctor before quitting can be advised when quitting drugs and alcohol.
Work is a very common stressor in the modern 21st century. More and more people fall into depression and stress related casualties now, more than in past years. Work Definitely takes a toll on my life, currently I work six days a week and sometimes even more bills pile up and the amount of things I want mock me. Following work are the everyday nuisances that never fail to occur such as car troubles, family issues, negative relationships, a lack of sleep, and my house accumulating dust. Some of these stressors are inevitable but many things I can change to make my life more stress free. Things such as: changing my work
I lived a relatively stress-free environment until I went off to college. I started to meet people that grew up in a rough childhood and I started to realize how lucky I was. This realization paired up with one of the most difficult quarters I had experience so far. The stress from school and this realization that so many of my fellow peers had experienced such a difficult upbringing caused me to have an anxiety attack for about a week. Luckily I live with two of my closest friends who were able to pick up on the fact that I was not acting myself and they helped me realize what was going on. The stress caused me to overthink everything with in turn only lead to more stress. I started to sleep less, eat less and that also only caused more stress. I vividly remember a time during that week when my roommate sat me down and said she wanted to show me something that could help relax me. She lead me through a guided meditation. At first I was skeptical. I had no idea how a simple exercise was going to help me but to my surprise it really did! Just by focusing on my breathing and shutting my mind off for a few minutes I was alleviated of my stress. Kelly McGonigal’s video on how to make stress your friend gave me a light of insight on how I can combat a situation like this in the future. She asked the audience to “view stress as a positive thing rather than a negative thing” and just by
You need to trust your body to handle life’s challenges and remember the fact that you do not have to face them alone. However, that is easier said than done. As a high school student who is enrolled in advanced classes and competes on competitive sports teams, I have experienced moderate to high levels of stress at times. Many times I am overwhelmed by the sheer number of feats I need to accomplish by a deadline, that thinking positively about my stress does not even cross my mind. However, Kelly McGonigal’s TED Talk has opened my eyes and enlightened me. Slowly, I am going to practice what she preaches and hope for a positive impact on my life. I will reach out for support from family and friends instead of struggling to cope on my own, and I will try to view stress as a positive influence on my life. I know results will not occur immediately, but I am confident that over time her advice will change my life for the better. I will go after what creates meaning in my life and trust myself that I have the ability to handle whatever life throws at
With that being said, stress affects everyone from all walks of life. Stress knows no boundaries so therefore it doesn’t discriminate when choosing its next victim! Everyone has their own way in which they choose to cope when under stress. Some go the unhealthy route where they are susceptible to drinking, smoking, and in some cases using and abusing illegal drugs. While others take the high road and cope with their stress more healthfully; for instance, going for a walk, meditating in a quiet room, writing in a journal, talking with someone, or it can even be something as simple as taking deep breaths. All
Stress is a common health issue for the body and mind, but it can be managed if not avoid.

Stress is a major factor in the health and happiness of Americans, but what ignites stress? Why is it so common? How can it be helped and prevented? Why is it so unhealthy? Why does it overtake the mind? Every individual deals with some form of stress throughout their daily lives. Many Americans are stressed out; stress is caused by being involved in too many activities, pressure to act or look a certain way, and eating habits.
According to WebMD (2012), Forty percent of U.S. workers admit to experiencing office stress, and one-quarter say work is the biggest source of stress in their lives.
There is a really unchallenging way to not stress and that is to be optimistic. Hundreds of studies have shown that being optimistic reduces stress, significantly. My brother, Tanner, has always been a stressful person. He stresses about school, sports, friends, and especially his girlfriend Nicole. Just recently, I talked to him about optimism and how it can increase you health and reduce your stress. Tanner has been beginning to have a positive state of mind and, as a matter of fact, he has been worrying much less about his grades and everything else he used to be stressed about. This is just one of many examples to prove that optimism can and will reduce your
Stress is a quantity that every human is afforded. It is how the body and mind interact in response to a stressor. Each stressor whether in the form of a major life experiences, traumatic events, work, school, and even exercise can be stressful. Stress of any amount makes an impact on a persons’ health and behaviors. Therefore, it is important to take notice of how you manage stressful events in your life however great or small an effect. Though everyone experiences stress in one way or another, no two people cope with stress in the same manner. Some individuals are more effective and recover from demanding situations quicker than others do. Consequently, the quality of health is contingent upon the type of stress and duration of
I was pleased to learn this week that “Anything that allows you to disengage from your thoughts can help you relax” (Eller, 2010). For the past 7 years my husband and I have entertained a small group of lifelong friends in our home on a weekly basis and equally important to my well-being I engage in walks with the family pet. When my week does not go as planned and I feel my stress levels rising I know that I have that time put aside to spend with my family and
I will apply from the learning that I had learn to my life. I will control my stress, I usually put a lot of pressure to do everything in my life. I like everything perfect, so it makes me can easy to get stressful. Halkos & Bousinakis suggested that “As expected, increased stress leads to reduced productivity and increased satisfaction leads to increased productivity. When work begins to overlap with workers ' personal life this implies a negative effect on productivity” (2001, para 1). When people get stress and do not have to reduce it, it will affect to their health such as stomachache, headache or illness and they cannot make a good decision. Also, it will affect to work in organizations and less productivities. I think the way to reduce a stress is
“Stress is a type of response which consists of tension, discomfort, or physical symptoms that arise when a situation called a stressor, which is a type of stimulus, strains our ability to cope effectively” (Lilienfeld, Lynn, Namy, Woolf. 2014. pg. 461.) We discussed how stress is a subjunctive experience and that not all people react to stressful situations in the same way. But there are many different coping methods to help deal with stress that can be beneficial. The article states that that yoga, mediation, going outside for a walk, and taking breaks from work are the best coping methods. We also discussed how stress can impact our health, certain stressors can lead to disruptions in the immune system such as certain stresses we feel from work or school. When workers become so stressed that they become sick, it becomes problematic because they then have to miss work and opportunities, which leads to
Stress is an ongoing dilemma that occurs in each and everyone’s life. It is a factor that is undoubtedly a part of daily living. Due to the trivial problems that occur in people’s daily lives massive amounts of stress can arise. People perceive and manage stress in many different ways. The causes and effects of stress are numerous and one’s ability to manage stress is vital in maintaining healthy living.
As one has seen, positive stress adds anticipation and excitement to life, and we all thrive under a certain amount of stress. Deadlines, competitions, confrontations, and even our frustrations and sorrows add depth and enrichment to our lives. Our goal is not to eliminate stress but to learn how to manage it and how to use it to help us. Insufficient stress acts as a depressant and may leave us feeling bored or rejected; on the other hand, excessive stress may leave us feeling "tied up in knots." What one needs to do is find a safe level of stress, which will individually motivate but not overwhelm them.
There are many ways to reduce or handle stress in your life. The easiest and one of the healthiest antidotes for stress is laughter. Just smiling helps because it releases blood flow to the brain and endorphins are released. (4.) This gives a sense of well being. Some other simple techniques are doing uninterrupted breathing. Another stressor is lack of sleep. Therefore break the stress-sleeplessness cycle. You can help relieve your sleep problem by developing a daily sleep routine and don’t drink alcohol or caffeine before bed. Another thing is to reserve your bedroom for sleeping and sex only. (4.) Writing down your feeling in a diary may help relieve emotional stress. (4.)
