Load Balancing techniques in Cloud Computing Parminder Kaur, Research Scholar, Department of Computer Science and Applications, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshtera Abstract With the increasing number of users of cloud, the load/ traffic also increases and it becomes important to have some techniques to balance the load equally among all the nodes, so that the user doesn’t suffer and the services are delivered effectively and efficiently. Therefore the need for Load Balancing algorithms arises. There are a number of techniques available for load balancing. In this paper, different kinds of load balancing algorithms in cloud computing along with the challenges and the qualitative metrics for the various load balancing algorithms are presented. Keywords: Load balancing, dynamic and static algorithms, Virtual Servers. 1. Introduction The definition of Cloud Computing as issued by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) September, 2011 is: “Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. This cloud model is composed of five essential characteristics, three service models, and four deployment models.” Cloud computing is a type of Internet-based computing that
