LOCAL MOVIES ARE WAY FAR BEHIND THAN FOREIGN MOVIES Nowadays, we can see in our entertainment industry that art pieces from other countries are much preferable. According to them, local movies are way far behind than foreign movies. In brief to this statement, movies that are made by Malaysian or produced by Malaysian is not quality enough to level with foreign movies and these movies are also less preferable compare to foreign movies. Movies from Hollywood and Bollywood are the highest preferable among our audiences. There are two main factors that affect our entertainment industry’s market which are producers and audiences. Most of the movies producers in our country are business maker, but not the film maker. “Business logic says you …show more content…
If the ministry does notcontrol the situation, I believe the number will increase. I do think that the industry isimproving with the arising of India movies and young directors. They bring new life toour entertainment industry with their brilliant and catchy ideas. Local movies are notterribly bad, they just need fresh touch. That’s what we are lack of now. In years to come,I believe we can level with, at least, Hong Kong’s movie industry.
As the conclusion, local movies are indeed way far behind than foreign movies.Yet, if steps are to be taken to correct it, we still can save the industry. It is such ashamedto see our film industry so pathetic now compare it to P.Ramlee time. Not all directors inMalaysian are bad, it will be a great lost if we did not bring the great directors affront. Agreat producer can bring the best in a director and a director can make a talented star toshine
Are foreign language films becoming more popular?
In much of the English-speaking world it is fairly unusual for a film in a language other than English to become very popular.
This may be because some English-speaking audiences don’t like watching films with subtitles very much, or because some foreign films might appear inaccessible, too intellectual or too lacking in action.
Occasionally a foreign language film does become popular among English speakers. The kung fu films of Ang Lee, such as ’Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon‘ are good
This essay explores the popularity of Australian film, both locally and internationally and asks the question: Is there a crisis in the Australian Film Industry? This essay will go through the current issues the Australian Film Industry and will demonstrate examples of those problems.
The poor distribution of Australian films has made it difficult for the public to view these said films, due to the lack of theatres screening the actual pictures. This contributes to the community of the Australian public to collectively be unaware of these films and leads to the small number of tickets sold in cinemas. With this lack of money being spent on Australian films, the industry suffers due to with no return going into the
Today, American film is among the most internationally supported commodities. Financially, its contributions are enormous: the industry is responsible for the circulation of billions of dollars each year. Since its explosion into the new media markets during the mid-twentieth century, film has produced consistently growing numbers of viewers and critics alike. Sparking debate over the nature of its viewing, film is now being questioned in social, political, and moral arenas for its potential impact on an audience. Critics claim that watching films is a passive activity in which the viewer becomes subconsciously absorbed, and creates a reliance or "addiction" to the medium, and thus
In the essay “Hollywood Warms to Asian Movies, American-Style” Renee Graham talks about how Hollywood remakes Asian movies. There are many advantages and disadvantages of these remakes. One advantage is that the remakes bring attention to the original version. Another advantage is that people in America get exposure to foreign films. A disadvantage is that these remakes are not as good as the original ones.
Hollywood has become synonymous to great cinema, be it American or an international equivalent, it always comes back to a Hollywood comparison. Classical Hollywood style exhibits clarity, unity, goal-orientated characters, and closure, while most other elements are set aside to further progress the cumulative buildup of narrative. Often referred to as the “invisible style,” because it relies on this “unobtrusive craftsmanship,” classic Hollywood practices ensure viewers will be completely immersed in a film without focusing on the literal separation between the screen and the audience. However, with as much importance creativity is placed upon the film industry, profit is also a huge factor in the filmmaking practice. There are certain genres
The Cinema has became one of America’s favorite past times. The artistry and the technology has captured American audiences, giving films influence over our culture. The film industry can easily change people’s opinions, without much work Hollywood can make us hate the villains and love the heroes. Through this we see the power that the cinema industry has grown to have, and the influence it has in our society. However it is also our society who possess even greater influence over the film industry.
I admit there are fantastic films worldwide; however, there are no countries that truly attract the attention of global viewers, like the American Hollywood Film Industry. I say this as recently the 88th annual Academy Awards were held in Los Angeles. This is, unsurprisingly, an American event looking at the successes of American films. Yet the whole world tuned in to see the results. Leo won his first Oscar and everyone, everywhere, was very excited for him. People in this very classroom brought it into discussion as well as other occurrences from the night. Everyone spoke about an American succeeding at an American event, and yet no one here has any direct relation to the country.
Even though there are so many positives that Hollywood and the film industry were able to produce for the American people, it did not come without its own hardships for the film industry itself. The cost of a movie, which in itself is not just the movie, it is the building and materials to screen the movie, the food to give to people there, the production costs to even film the movie that has some liveliness to it that is required in a short number of time- it is so many things! During this time, the phrase ‘time is money and money is time’ could not be more true than ever before. Consider this, today, the cost of producing a movie can range from one million dollars, to easily well over $100 million… it is a lot of money! During a time when money was scarce, funders were few, and resources were expensive, creates a difficult time and space for the creation and full production and deliverance of a movie.
Socially I did not grow up with much exposure to Chinese culture. It is always thought-provoking to learn new information that is why decide to pick a culture with which my background is scarce. I selected to watch a foreign movie called Fearless, also known as Jet Li’s Fearless in the United States. My decision to watch a movie is I enjoy the proficiency to learn from films. I have never watched a foreign film so I was intrigued to experience one. I was not sure what to expect with a foreign movie, except I would have to read subtitles. I imagined the movie would have issues and situation that I could not relate to. I thought the plot may feature cultural problems and I would not understand parts of the movie. I expected the film to feature traditional, collectivism traits typically associated with China. Most of the focus relating to family and society as a whole rather than an individual. I also expected a conservative approach to the movie.
According to Carlos Diegues, a leader of Brazil’s revolutionary Cinema Novo movement, “Every country has two national cinemas: its own, and Hollywood (Sterritt, David).” The American Film Industry is the oldest in the world and its styles and methods have exerted a powerful influence on filmmakers and audiences worldwide since the early twentieth century. Foreign film industries don’t necessarily actively seek to adopt the practices and styles of American film; rather, international countries have been flooded with the big-budget spectacles that intrigue and engage the audience through their grand style of narrative storytelling, which inevitably impacts the way foreign filmmakers produce their films. Audiences worldwide have been conditioned
In the USA the “New Hollywood” was in its prime, with directors such as George Lucas, Steven Spielberg or Martin Scorsese. These directors became very important in these times because the director became the leader of the film project, rather than a producer. The New Hollywood was different from the classical form mostly in its narrative. (2) The classical Hollywood way was to tell a story of a developing character. (1) However,
The costs, methods of distribution, and themes of Hollywood and Nollywood films reflect strongly their target audiences; how the target audience affects the production of a film and how the production of a movie is designed to capture a specific
In addition, an independent research conducted in Bryant University suggest that out of 50 domestic students, 35 students like watching Indian movies whereas 8 did not like Bollywood movies and 7 have not watched it yet. Though the sample size is small, it serves to show that the domestic people are watching and accepting Bollywood movies. Netflix is an American internet based steaming media provider company which provides more than 100,000 movies. The most interesting fact is that 89% of the Foreign Movie section in Netflix, is Bollywood movies. Netflix has about 33.1 million viewers in United States alone and yet the “Most Watched Movie “and “Foreign Movie” section consist of many Bollywood movies. This shows that Bollywood has influenced the domestic audience as well the industry itself. The influence of Bollywood element and the Indian culture can be seen quite evidently in the music, dance and visual representation in Hollywood movies.
Hess and Zimmermann mention that conventional categories have blurred and there’s demands for new political and aesthetic responses in transnational cinema (John Hess 2006). These transnational films I believe would be growing significantly in the film industry as a part of film history.
film industry is the largest of any industries with India making the most number of movies per year than
