Originally from Marcy Houses housing project in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City,[9] Jay-Z was abandoned by his father Adnes Reeves and shot his brother in the shoulder for stealing his jewelry[10] when he was twelve years old.[11] Jay-Z attended Eli Whitney High School in Brooklyn, along with rapper AZ, until it was closed down. After that he attended George Westinghouse Information Technology High School in Downtown Brooklyn, with fellow rappers The Notorious B.I.G. and Busta Rhymes, and Trenton Central High School in Trenton, New Jersey, but did not graduate.[12] He claims to have been caught up in selling drugs, to which he refers in his music.[11]
It may be hard for a kid to understand why his parents didn’t want him or her listening to Pac or Biggie’s lyrics, but as their actions on TV and in music videos displayed the same notions, their fear only increased. For both artists, they had videos displaying women with nearly nothing on, smoking, drinking and carrying weapons, but kids people liked it. That’s why both of these artists are known as the best of all time. What they didn’t see though was the rising amount of disrespect towards women, increase in drug sales and an enormous increase in gun violence during this time. This is proven by Lindsay John, “The endemic of violence in the black community can be directly traced back to the whole irresponsible images of black masculinity which is fed to us through music.” (174) Along with the videos, they had concerts that displayed rash and harsh comments towards not only whites but also law enforcement. I propose that all unsigned rising artist should target the business side of the music industry to be successful in the entertainment business because it allows the artist to be taken seriously and make solid connections that can further his/her career. Learning the works of the music industry also enables a new artist to be further successful and profitable. Recent studies show that most new artists without professional representation and a business mindset have a slimmer chance in getting signed to major or independent labels (Lowry, 2011). Overall, the specific change needed is that unsigned artists should be concentrating on their careers as professionals and not amateurs, thus focusing on the ins and outs of the music business and

In the present day Americans know an artist named “Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr.”(“Snoop Dogg Biography”), also known as Snoop Dogg. Even though Snoop Dogg is doing very good at this time, he grew up very poor and associated with drugs. In the town of “Long Beach, California”(“Snoop Dogg Biography”), Calvin’s “father was absent most of his childhood life”(“Snoop Dogg Biography”) and there he began being associated with drugs and gangs. There were many artists that grew up in the hard ways even in the 1920’s.
But Tupac showed a flair for performing; at fifteen, he won enrollment to the Baltimore School for the Arts, taking roles in several productions there. "I was writing poetry," he told Rolling Stone, "and I became known as MC New York, because I was rapping, and then I was doing the acting thing.... It was the freest I ever felt in my life." That ended at seventeen, when his family moved to Marin City,
New York and syracuse in upstate New York. At the age of twelve after his daddy lost his job the
He was extremely intelligent and used this to reach logical solutions when faced with problems.
That's when Tupac began to hang out with the wrong crowd. When he turned 15, he fell into rap, and started writing lyrics, forming his New York background for all it was worth. He called himself Mc New York and made people believe he was a tough guy. By the time Tupac was 20 he had been arrested eight times, and served eight months in prison, after being convicted of sexual abuse.
Once upon a time there was a young boy called Kendrick Lamar, who lived in the rough area of Compton in southern Los Angeles. His dad was a teacher at the local high school and his mother was a part-time cashier at Walmart. He was different than the other boys his age who were dealing drugs and involving themselves with gangs. Kendrick preferred to spend his time listening to music or doing his homework.
I will conduct 32 semi-structured interviews with a goal of speaking to16 black Chicagoans for each case study. For the House music study, I will focus on two groups to gather a larger understanding of how House music and The Warehouse operated as a safe space for black gay and/or queer males. Secondly, I will investigate The Warehouse as a space in which black heterosexual and homosexual communities collectively formed the larger sociospatial and cultural identity connected to House music that spread globally. I will interview eight black, male Chicagoans that identity as queer and/or gay who are between the ages of 45-65 years of age. This is crucial because my human subjects would have to be old enough to have attended The Warehouse, which existed between 1979-1984 or old enough to have engaged with house music between 1980-1990, when it was at its peak.

After growing up in Jersey City, New Jersey, Akon began singing and performing as a teenager. Surrounded by music at home, Akon developed an early appreciation of various types of music, and he grasped influence from Stevie Wonder and Phil Collins to Steely Dan. As a teenager he grew to love hip-hop music, and he began writing songs, blending R&B lyrics with hip-hop beat structures. Though he showed an early musical talent, Akon did not believe he would succeed as a recording artist, and at a young age he turned to crime to make ends meet such as: gang banging and drug procession.
The music industry has changed in very quickly in so many ways it almost seems impossible. Thomas Edison recorded the first voice in 1877 and now we listen to hundreds of different types of music on devices that hold more information than the computers that sent the first astronaut to the moon. People have been getting music in tons of ways for the past hundred plus years and when the internet came into the picture, the music industry sky rocketed. People could get their own music out and be heard just by clicking a few measly buttons and using the internet to stream millions of songs with high speed. But even though the internet has helped the music industry by making it easier to distribute, advertise, and produce music, it still has its disadvantages.
