Logical Fallacies In Nursing Career

You could completely change your current field and do something opposite. She enjoys the challenges of every day nursing. And not even one day is the same as other. Also Mary thinks that nursing provides a good opportunity to raise a family with flexible hours. She greatly believes that her caregiving experiences in the beginning of her career helped her managing people better and to better understand patients’ needs.

Ernest Hemingway once said, “Life isn’t hard to manage when you’ve nothing to lose” (Ernest Hemingway). Perhaps this is the reason 1920’s new woman Lady Brett Ashley was able to control her life with such ease. She had never been tied down to a man, therefore she had no real love to lose. She was free. As the novel progresses so does Brett’s outlook on love. Lady Brett Ashley is very much her own person. The character she depicts is placed in this story to strongly emphasize the hypermasculinity of women in the 1920’s. Brett was written by Hemingway as the complete opposite of Frances, married housewife, who was the ideal woman before the new era was brought upon by the 20’s.

A graduate student leaving an evening class walks along the poorly lit sidewalk to the parking lot—it is a long, cold walk in the pitch-black night, and the student grows wary as shadows begin lurking in the distance. Nursing is an art form that must include compassion, caring, honesty, and patient care. Every single day as a nurse you are dealing with a patient’s life. You must have the listed qualities to perform your care for the patient properly.

Joining sides with the nurse, my family drilled the idea of nursing into my brain. Nursing and forfeiting my plan seemed to become a necessity for a successful life. After hearing people tell me what I should do, I eventually started to agree with them. Clinical reasoning is embedded in nurses’ thinking for patient care (Levett-Jones 2013). It is a spiral, continuous mental process, underpinned by critical thinking theory and a sound body of nursing knowledge (Levett-Jones 2013). The clinical reasoning cycle includes considering patient’s situation, collecting cues, processing information, identifying problems, establishing goals, taking action, evaluating outcomes and reflecting on the process undertaken (Levett-Jones 2013). Nursing practice for registered nurses is guided both by the National Competency Standard (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia 2006) and the Nursing Practice Decision Flowchart (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia 2010) to ensure patients’ safety and to optimise care by challenging medical assumptions and facilitating evidence-based practice. The clinical reasoning framework, therefore, allows nurses to prioritise the most time sensitive and specific information, to recognise deteriorating patients and to manage complex clinical situations (Levett-Jones & Bourgeois 2011). This paper will focus on processing information and identifying the two major problems in the case study of Mr. Brown, a 74-year-old man, who was admitted to hospital after a ‘fainting’ episode with chief complaint of dizziness.

As a course of life, people are born, raised, and go to school until the time comes where they need to make a decision about their career. In fact, most careers have one common theme among them---Help or give back to community and society. I for one have chosen a career in nursing to help people and give back to my community. Other than the fact that I want to help people, a career in nursing will expand my horizons, give me career opportunities, and job satisfaction.

It is likely that most people have heard about the nursing shortage for years now, and perhaps they believe it’s been fixed. However, the nursing profession is experiencing a reoccurring deficiency. According to Brian Hansen, (2002), there was a nation wide shortage in 2001 of 126,000 full-time registered nurses, but the shortage will surge to 808,000 by 2020 if something isn't done. This pattern is a persisting cycle of high vacancies followed by layoffs and a high over supply of registered nurses. Various factors contribute to the lack of nurses within the health care facilities, but today’s shortages are a little different. Many feel that this scarcity is severe and long-drawn-out. I was always undecided regarding the career that I wanted to pursue. As I got older and looked at many choices in careers I realized that I wanted to have a career in the medical field. Being a nurse interests me because it requires the study of the human body along with other great opportunities that nurses have in this career. I want to become a nurse because I like being able to help those who are in need.

Historically, the nursing field is one that has consistent positive job outlooks, as there is typically a continued shortage. Healthcare is the backbone of most communities, not just for its services, but also for the jobs it provides and the economy stimulation. Jill Bernstein, author for “Changes in Health Care Financing and Organization” states, “The health care industry is a critical component of the national, and most regional and local economies of the United States” (4). The nursing field has suffered challenges due to the economic, social, and the political downturn of the U.S. Nevertheless, there is still some noticeable growth taking place and opportunities available. This shows encouraging signs for new nursing graduates.

Many influences can draw a person to choose a pathway to their career. Three research articles are reviewed and will be discussed. The main points that are reviewed in all of the articles is altruism, the concern for the welfare of others, the ability to work with others, ability to travel, salary, knowing someone who is a nurse, career with many opportunities, job satisfaction and stability. Of the interviewed nursing students and registered nurses, job satisfaction was correlated with the interesting work an individual can do employed as a registered nurse. Some factors that were further examined did not have a strong impact on the decision of becoming a nurse but is still significant. For instance, working in health is a factor that persuaded some students to choose nursing. These individuals had the idea of working in healthcare but decided to study nursing to see their options. Another factor that is not as common is to study nursing based on a friend’s decision (Wilkes et al, 2014). Many of the study subjects also found that nursing is a rewarding career because it gives you a sense of purpose and allows you to make a difference in someone’s life. In other cases, nursing may be used as a stepping stone into another career like medicine, physiotherapy, or occupational therapy (Eley et al, 2012).
