1) Goals As leaders responsible for the security of our own constituents, the most important goals would need to be the security of British civilians working in Sureno. The deaths of innocent civilians, especially in a foreign land would undoubtedly lead to strong media attention and eventually public indignation that would be aimed at both the inability of the government to protect them as well as a public sentiment for retributive justice against One Way, especially via the use of military action. As it is also known that One Way leaders have called for members of Supreme in foreign countries to carry out acts of violence, it will also be important to maintain domestic security from either recruited or inspired ‘Lone Wolfs’ attacks, which …show more content…
24). Strong public pressure may also lead to rash, emotional solutions which may cause unintended consequences, especially if the situation in Sureno is not properly analyzed and understood. Therefore, another goal of the British response should be to avoid public outrage by taking measures to protect British civilians both domestically and in Sureno form any possible attacks. A secondary aspect would pertain to British interests in Sureno. This rank order is based on a preference for domestic security above that of economic interests, as the former would directly affect political legitimacy more so than the latter. It is noted that Sureno is located in region which is an important sea line of communication, …show more content…
The British government should consider the attacks on British companies in Soreno as criminal acts of violence. This should be followed by condemnation of any violence against any British entity and state resolve to end the conflict. However, we should also explain that given the complex political situation in Soreno, it would be unwise to commit British lives to a foreign and uncertain conflict, especially it aggravates Soreno’s opposition and motivate further attacks on British targets. The conflict should also be presented as a benign movement fighting in the interests of democracy and social justice. The small number of British troops deployed in Soreno will only be for the guarantee of peace in facilitation of the negotiation process and the protection of British citizens and companies. This will be argued to the public as necessary in order to resolve the root of the issue, prevent further attacks both by Liberty and Honor and One Way and prevent a spread of extremist ideology which may inspire further inspired attacks to undermine British society. The political narrative should also point out that One Way represent a narrow sect of Supreme fuelled by domestic grievances, and that British efforts are to ensure equitable settlements in the dispute and
They state that “transnational issues…are not always military problems, but military resources may prove useful to monitoring, controlling or recovering from them.” They later go on to say that the armed forces “may be required to coordinate their operations with humanitarian relief organisations” , as non-state actors influence their ‘warfighting.’
The foreign, military and economic policies of states, the intersections of these policies in areas of change or dispute, and the general structure of relations which they create, are all analysed in terms of aspirations to achieve national and/or international security. Security is most commonly associated with the alleviation of threats to cherished values (Williams; 2008). However this is a definition that is undesirably vague and a reflection of the inherent nature of security as an ‘essentially contested concept’ (Gallie; 1962). Security in the modern day context has many key concepts associated with it: uncertainty, war, terrorism, genocide and mass killing, ethnic conflict, coercion,
b. It is more important that they keep ties with Britain instead of looking west.
According to most analysis of the lone-wolf terrorist, the lone-wolf terrorist is identifiable by a few characteristics. However, Bartol and Bartol list seven main characteristics in textbook. The lone-wolf terrorist may identify or sympathize with extremist movements, but they operate individually. Since they operate alone, they act with the influence of a leader or hierarchy. They may often strive for notoriety on the behalf of an interest group. Because their plans are well throughout in advance, it is consider to be premeditated. Unlike other terrorist, the lone-wolf appears to have suffered from some form of mental illness. Lastly they may prefer solitude instead of the companionship of friends because they lack interpersonal and social skills (Bartol & Bartol, 2014, p337).
Better State of Peace: (1) Recover and secure threat missile systems, (2) elimination of Caprica’s Thunder, (3) Secure the Port Ray Nuclear Reactor, (4) Minimize collateral damage ('No Strike List', airfields, and sea ports), and (5) Prevent escalation of hostilities.
Yes it difficult to detect thsee individuals who carry out these lone wolf attacks but I believe that if law enforcement agencies get the involvement of citizen just like how dhs have passenger as a layer of security this model use be replicated in the society as a whole.Let citizenso know the importance they place for preventing such lone wolf attacks from happenings.Remember a terrorists never open his plans on targeted places when they want to cause disaster. The police are not every but citizens are.If it raised a concerns don't relax say something to law
First and foremost, the government believes that it is justifiable to breach the limits of their duty in the name
One of the sites of the British strategies is ability to create an effective ally to secure
Lone wolf terrorism is perhaps one of the most widely misunderstood and opaque phenomenon currently threatening United States national security. Popularized by Tom Metzger and Alex Cutis, in the 1990s, the term, “lone wolf” is often defined as a person who prepares and commits a violent act on his or her own accord without orders from an organization. Although not a new method of terrorism, the rise of lone actors has become a growing threat to the United States. Over the last decade, the number of lone wolf attacks has steadily increased, resulting in 115 deaths and 160 injured (Hamm & Spaaj, 2015). Despite the emerging risk, proactive measures from law enforcement and intelligence communities are nonexistent, primarily due to the lack of research.
For a long time before the events of September 11th, typically foreign terrorist acts were committed in some relation to military acts like the Irish Republican Army (IRA) or disputes along Middle Eastern borders like Israel and Palestine both are long standing political issues that continue to tug on the hearts of those involved to this day. But more so today we see an influx of independent terrorist attacks which we call these lone wolf attacks. These people are unassociated or are un-sponsored by with any particular group and act of their own accord. These lone wolf attacks are a particular challenge to intelligence communities because the investigation comes down to their personal mindset and to what radicalized
“A lone-wolf terrorist operates individually, does not belong to an organized group or network and conceives and directs the modus operandi without any direct outside command or hierarchy” (Spaaji 2012, p. 16). Lone actor or autonomous cell (LA/AC) terrorism is emerging as a major threat and presents extreme difficulties for the intelligence community, chief among them is the fact that this type of terrorism is much harder to detect and prevent. “Although the state’s capacity to monitor is substantial, individuals are still able to operate under the radar screen and commit violence with little predictability” (Michael 2014, 49) The absence of a central or parent organization reduces, or eliminates in the case of lone actors, the “chatter” associated with planning an attack (Michael 2014, 50). These types of actors leave a much smaller mission footprint that has proved difficult to detect and therefore these attacks have proven difficult to prevent. Current research is lacking on this topic, as evidenced by the fact that lone wolf and small, autonomous cell attacks continue to occur and with alarming frequency: “There have been lone wolf terrorist attacks throughout history; the first vehicle bombing in the US happened when a horse-drawn wagon exploded on Wall Street in September 1920, killing more than 30 people and injuring more than 200 others. However, in recent years there has been a proliferation of lone wolf attacks in many countries” (Simon, 2013). Since terrorist
As lone wolf terrorism is infrequent, and the offenders often become casualties of their own campaigns, the present study will employ a correlational research design to analyze the potential relationship between schizotypal personality disorder and lone wolf terrorism. Utilizing a similar method from the Security Studies Program National Security Critical Issue Task Force, the present study will administer a multivariate statistical test upon a dataset, produced by previous research from Hamm & Spaaij, to analyze current trends and isolate potential mental disorders. The dataset consists of 98 confirmed lone wolf terrorists between 1940 and 2013 who were either convicted or died during their offense - representing the most comprehensive dataset
Through evaluating the topic on Legitimacy and interventionism, it is evident that there are many injustices taking place. This is evident through properly analyzing the role that Albion tries to put to ensuring that there is an end to the injustice. The injustice is seen to be through how the carpetbaggers are treated by the Northerner’s and Southerner’s (Mosaic, p. 13). This is apparent through how the two view each other and the tension that has accumulated between the two parties. Based on proper evaluation, it is clear that the differences that continue to exist between the two are due to the notion that they have about each other. Failure to acknowledge their differences and learn how to live together has been among the factors that have contributed to their long-term difference. This paper will be argumentative essay providing a summary of Prince that supports the credibility of the topic in discussion.
A major problem in our world today is the increasing threats of terrorism. Terrorists oppress government authority and force their demands toward the people. Because these attacks are random and unsuspected, world leaders have difficulties to control these forces brought among their nation. Many individuals feel a sense of helplessness and a strange awe after an incident to rebel against their homeland. To be an effective world leader, in response to a terrorist attack, leaders should be able to keep the public informed, while also keeping their people calm.
When the September 11, 2001 attacks occurred the United States responded in a manner which was seen as a traditional reaction to such an attack; it used its overwhelming superior military to invade the nation of Afghanistan. As Afghanistan was the operating base of the terrorist group responsible for the attacks, Al Qaeda, the invasion all but destroyed the group's operating capacity. But in response to the United States' apparent victory the terrorists have re-organized themselves into a looser confederation and turned to alternative methods of finance and operation. One could say that the success of the American military's answer to the September 11th attacks have created a new environment in which terrorists currently operate. This includes the use of the internet, unconventional alliances with international criminal organizations, as well the inception of the "lone wolf" terrorist. Faced with these new type of threats, the United States and its allies must find a way to identify and deal with them.
