Topography: The New England colonies are located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Appalachian Mountains. There are many hills and forests, making it difficult to farm but, it is easier to defend against trespassers. The colonists use the trees from the forests to build houses and boats. The boats they made are used for fishing and whaling.

The organization assists property owners in clearing the title of their property using the property tax foreclosure program.

     The Long Island Sound is a vital resource used by both humans and wildlife. The quality of its water is an issue that affects everyone and everything. Scientific studies and continuous monitoring provide evidence as to what actions need to be taken to improve and restore the water quality. In more ways than one, the United States government has devoted much of its time to ensure the revival and protection of the Long Island Sound.

Through the era of reconstruction, the United States experienced a series of ups and downs within a political and social stance. After the Civil War, the goal of the U.S. was to integrate former slaves into the population. President Lincoln wanted to complete that goal but he was soon assassinated so President Johnson took over. Johnson had a completely different idea about reconstruction. He believed that the South didn’t have the right to succeed in the first place. Johnson then established new all white governments and many schools were produced to help educate whites and blacks. When black people thought about freedom, owning land was how they believed freedom was. Land was supposed to be divided to former slaves for them to own, but Johnson returned that land to its original owners. This created sharecropping. Sharecropping first started out as white farmers having blacks working for them to tend to their crops and they would take home a share of the crops. In the 1920’s if you were wealthy and had a good reputation and everyone knew of you, you had made it. There were many popular rich families in Long Island sound during the 1920’s, but Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller may be two of the biggest names of that time, and they did not acquire that title very easily. Carnegie and Rockefeller did many things to help this nation advance majorly through Carnegie's steel industry and Rockefeller’s oil refinery’s.

In efforts to restore the land back to normal, the federal government along with other agencies, created new rules and regulations to help improve the rehabilitation of the land. Some adjustments included: imposing that farmers plant trees and grass to anchor the soil, to plow and terrace in contour patterns to hold rainwater, and also was the emergence of allowing certain parts of the farmland to lie fallow each year so the soil there can regenerate. The government also purchased 11.3 million acres of land to so that the land would not be used for farming and other agriculture processes.

Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York: a small community located on the north shore of the famous long island has been the set for many films and television shows, home to many historical people, a vacation spot with a rich and sophisticated night life, as well as much more, but more importantly it is my hometown. Being situated on a map at 40.7594° N, 73.5028° W, it can be found between Oyster Bay Cove and Mill Neck on the “Gold Coast”, miles off of Oyster Bay Sound. The town of Oyster Bay is roughly 170 square miles and the highest elevation of the town is around 180 feet.

I did not think about how the land would of been exhausted. Just like farmers today, they have to switch the crop they grow so they do not take all the nutrients out of the soil. This method is what the colonists should of done, but they did not know any better. The colonists exhausted the land and then they moved to a better location to grow and harvest crops. I think that this was a great point. It takes years for the land to regain nutrients, this affected many of the next generations.

The majority of Connecticut’s state-lands were distributed before the American Revolution by town proprietors. Those distributed after the Revolution continued to be distributed in the same way and were recorded at the town level. Subsequent conveyances are also recorded at the town level.

I am going to discuss what clearcutting does to the eastern United State forests. Clearcutting when conducted correctly can be very beneficial to a forest. By following forestry best management practices (BMP), we can reduce the negative effects of harvesting on the forest. BMP vary from state to state. All state and federal forest land have harvesting permits that must be completed before any harvesting. In Pennsylvania to harvest any state or federal land an Erosion and Sediment Control Plan for a Timber Harvesting Operation (E&S plan) must be filled out. This document lays out the laws and regulations as well as the BMP for harvesting timber. The E&S plan gives instruction on how to construct your timber harvest from construction of bridges, roads, placement of runoff management, filter strips, erosion barriers, and even site cleanup.
