Long Lane Pollution Study

Worldwide vehicular traffic has increased by 3.6% in the last year alone. With over a billion motorized “units” occupying our roadways, traffic is a number one topic. Whether we personally contribute to the growing number, or not we are nonetheless effected by it.

Other data is from the measurement of the current traffic and the potential influence of the 370 Jay Street project. That part of data is available in the measurement of traffic.

These data indicate in District 115, a large percentage of residents need to commute to work, about 63.6% (42.3%+21.3%) need to travel 15-44 minutes. This situation introduces public issues about traffic, road construction and maintenance, energy/gasoline consummation, and even environmental pollution generated from automobile emission gas.

In this project the main focus is to investigate the topic of "is there more private traffic than commercial traffic on Good Luck Road due to the land usage along the road?

Pollution- The connection with pollution to which happens in the Lorax movie was clear and which was the following. When the Once-ler made his Thneeds everyone went crazy for them causing for higher demands. Thus this led to him chopping down trees with large machinery which also shown black thick chemicals get released into the atmosphere. Also not to mention when his factory gets upgraded it also increases pollution amounts.

It is true that for many of the residents of the area the Long Island Sound is a source of inspiration and renewal. The Sound is widely believed to be the most substantial natural component adding to the beauty of the entire island. he issue which I decided upon as the biggest problem in my community is pollution. The reason I chose this issue is because I live in New Castle Pennsylvania which is ranked as one of the most polluted cities in the country. This puts New Castle above cities such as LA who are known for their terrible pollution rate even though we are a small urban area. In this town and its surrounding cities such as Pittsburgh more than 25 thousand people have been diagnosed with lung asthma. Even growing up this unnaturally high trend was obvious. This is apparently a very big problem for this area.

Air pollution continues to be a significant problem in the city of Birmingham, as it has been for decades. No one enjoys walking the streets of Birmingham only to taste or smell the smoke and particulates in the air, not to mention the damaging effects to one’s health. Fortunately, improvements have been made; forty years ago, residents of Birmingham could not even see the skyline due to the immense amounts of particulates in the air, but now the skyline is visible on a daily basis. The noticeable improvement indicates the progress that has been made over the years, but there is still plenty of room for much needed improvement. Even though traffic congestion ratings may not indicate how much air pollution in an area, most times, traffic congestion does communicate the approximate degree air pollution lies at. Atlanta does have an honorable—or rather, notorious—mention of daily traffic congestion, even though Atlanta’s traffic may not live up to the scale of that of New York City. Truthfully, I never gave much thought to what effect science had or has on art. Even with my background being principally in the Architecture and Design, it was always just numbers to me. Art to me is something that is subjective at best, I love the craftsman style that doesn’t mean everybody does. Below is my interpretation of this week’s readings.

Demolition and Construction sites are bad when it comes to the control of particulates causing an increase in air pollution. The particulates can be emitted by the process of knocking down or disturbing the building letting the particulate free and get into the air reducing the quality. If the workers do not manage what they are doing correctly, it can have harmful impacts on not only their health but the communities and the environment. At times enforcing the laws and good practice can be expensive and very disruptive. The legislation includes things like Identifying activities that create pollution, Environmental risk assessment, selecting low emission materials and getting the right training and using the proper methods.

Aristotle defined nature “as an internal origin of change or stability”1. Natural substances are things such as animals, plants and inanimate matter like earth, water, fire and air. Each natural substance according to Aristotle has its own nature, which is what gives rise to its natural behaviour/characteristic. The nature of a natural substance is its inner principle/source of change.2

The amount of factories and industries has grown immensely through the previous years which has resulted in an expansion in the consumption of petroleum products. Innovation has begun to increase and has promoted the expansion of the production of cars. As stated by the Air Quality Research Center, “Air pollution is one of the most dangerous environmental problems, causing many adverse health effects and responsible for 50,000 deaths in the U.S. each year” (Air Pollution and Health – Air Quality Research Center.). Capital Punishment is still used in the United States, and there has been 152 people that has been released from death row since 1973. There has been many more people that were not released but executed and possibly innocent. Kantian ethics is the theory that says the moral actions are not determined by the consequences but by the right nature of the action. Capital punishment may be questionable with some cases of innocents, with that being said the use of capital punishment should only be used with cases to be absolute guilt.
