Long-Term Career Goals

Ever since I can remember, I have always been around healthcare. The love of helping people runs through the family. My grandma worked in the Operating Room and my aunt is a Dialysis Technician. My mom is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Trauma Nurse appeals to me due to helping others and the adrenalin rush. My goal in relation to this career is to help people and give them inspiration.

In addition, I come from a disadvantaged area with a shortage of physicians. I know from experience the difficulty in having healthcare access from these areas. I have volunteered in nursing homes and free clinics in these areas and I thoroughly have felt very satisfied and accomplished during my time there.

I made the decision to join the health care field based on my own desire, love of the people that live and thrive around me, and to be a role model for my daughter. I feel it is important to have a goal in life, and it is important to me to show my daughter the value of goals, and achieving them as well. I love meeting new people, and being able to lend a helping hand in any way I possibly can. What better way to help the general population then to have a profession in the health care industry.

My professional connections include and atmospheric chemistry professor at Emory University and a mentor who recently left Emory University to go work at the census bureau in Washington D.C. Through the professor at Emory I have access to a lot of the universities resources such as access to scientific journals, I can attend seminars, I can ask for opportunities for research, I can also ask for opportunities for networking through her colleagues, I have a friendly professional who I can ask questions, and I have a professional reference with whom I have done work with. I have always been intrigued in pursuing a career within the medical field. I entered college with the premeditation of pursuing pharmacy. Ultimately, I became aware that I was more interested in the biology of the human anatomy than the chemical aspect; thus, I switched my major over to nursing. Through various volunteering opportunities, I realize my passion lies within interacting and assisting individuals. This recognition further validates my career choice. In the near future, I hope to become a nurse who can provide care and assistance for people.

If I were to have a career in the service industry I would prefer to work in health care services. I picked health care services because I’m currently going to school to be a surgical technologist. I’ve always been good at science and I find science very interesting. Health care is something that I’ve been interested in for a while now and before deciding on going to school to be a surgical technologist, I did a lot of research about careers in health care. I feel like it’s an industry that I’m prepared to go into. I’ve always wanted to be in a field where I can do something good for others and help people and health care services would be the perfect place for me.

As an early childhood educator, being in the grass searching for lady bugs or painting with plungers is my happy place. Even so, I have also felt a strong desire to mentor and teach a younger generation of educators. I have always been in a position of leadership while working in early childhood education and have found this to be equally as rewarding as the lightbulb moments you get to share with a child in the grass.

What interest me about this career is the ability to inspire others by sharing my experience with them, educate and empower them to live a healthier lifestyle, rebuilding someone’s self-image and helping them become physically fit.

In the coming years, my educational goals will be coming my undergraduate program in May 2017 and then beginning a Masters program for secondary English. My passion for teaching has always been centered around with working for disadvantaged students in low income schools. Growing up in a low income household myself, I know the necessity of education and how it can bring you out of poverty. My long term career goals is to create a curriculum that combines culturally relevant practices into mainstream teaching because I believe through experience, students learn the best when they can relate it to themselves. My plans are to, if accepted into the MAT program at Alaska University, attend the program and then find a school in the state to work

My long-term career goal is to start my own business that provides marketing research data and marketing strategies to minority owned small businesses beginning in Philadelphia. Typically, minority-owned companies do not have the resources or finances to perform in-depth analysis on their consumer and develop advanced marketing strategies for their companies. By providing this data analytic service I hope to grow the profitability of each company while also strengthening their core consume base. I choose to focus on minority owned businesses to bring more economic opportunities to communities in Philadelphia that are typically overlooked or forgotten. Prior to opening my own business, I require experience in the field of Marketing Research specifically within Consumer Goods. By obtaining a position as Marketing Research Manager at a top firm (similar to Ipsos or Nielsen), I will gain experience in not only data analysis and research techniques but also a more in-depth view into how larger companies leverage marketing research data to strengthen their companies. Politics is defined by Webster dictionary as, “the activities, actions, and policies that are used to gain and hold power in a government or to influence a government.”  I aim to one day work in our government and influence lives in a positive manner. I want to help create a sound government in any way possible. Intellectually, I yearn to learn more about the processes in government, to overall aid in my professional goal of being a successful politician.

My personal interest working in the healthcare field starts back when I was very young taking care of my animals from puppies, to dogs, even fish that were the first of my pets. And that is where the passion of taking care of something derived from starting with a dream beginning with becoming a veterinarian. That career choice has not come to pass as of yet instead of that I took a different approach.

To be successful in your career you need to work within different business-related industries. Consequently, as a business manager working with multi-national companies for gaining more knowledge in the scale of economy with a profit advantage. It is believed that obtaining communication and international trading skills are necessary for self-entrepreneurship by experiencing from a related and specific environment such as working in large companies and learning skills.
