Long Term Leadership Development Goal The long-term objective is centered around the ability to plan and execute strategic decision making at the senior level up to Senior Executive Service. To achieve this objective, it is necessary to narrow in on a specific goal and attribute this goal to Executive Core Qualifications (ECQ) competencies driving results based upon ECQ 5 “Building Coalitions.” It is imperative to strengthen strategic skills in networking to open opportunities and inspire others though “building Effective teams within the Department of Defense (DoD), across the military services, and in partnership with industry. Partnering: Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals. 2. Political Savvy: Identifies the internal and external politics that impact the work of the organization. Perceives organizational and political reality and acts accordingly. 3. Influencing/Negotiating: Persuades others; builds consensus through give and take; gains cooperation from others to obtain information and accomplish goals. The process entails building alliances with military service members and industry partners. This starts with collaboration and relationship building with fellow students followed by building relationships outside of the Eisenhower School during industry study meetings with senior military officials and industry executives determining common ground for objective and goal building to achieve overall joint success. Objective and goal achievement will be through a series of steps ensuring challenging processes and learning opportunities. Step 1: Build relationships with other students and faculty. Step 2: Choose an industry study maximizing a view of DoD needs and how to fulfill them by researching industry internal structures and …show more content…
Since a coalition is a basis for change it will be necessary to overcome this weakness through network strengthening, political savviness, and persuasion of others. Perception of others highlights not looking at the larger picture, comfort in existing plans, using what has worked in the past, and possibly being averse to risk. Although there is a preference for logical approaches it is imperative to focus on the big picture while at the same time being practical and being a realist. It is required to use influencing and negotiating skills though give and take processes and ensuring information sharing is a constant

Partnerships were not just joint but a better relationship between the Operational units under INSCOM and the proponent for intelligence under Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). These formed a strong bond that allowed current education, training, and mission success to shape the Army’s next steps. The relationship between TRADOC and the Operational frontend is absolutely vital to the success of training and education. Too often TRADOC would lag behind or operations would not communicate the changing demands, thus hindering the advance of military intelligence occupational
As a Senior Enlisted Leader I aspire to develop a better comprehension of strategic issues. Having in-depth knowledge of the complexities behind decisions, processes, and the totality of circumstances is instrumental when addressing matters to Coast Guard field units. Furthermore, this perspective is integral to a Senior Enlisted Leader’s ability to provide timely, complete and reliable counsel to operational and strategic leaders, particularly when making decisions that significantly affect the workforce.
A partnership is an arrangement between two or more groups, organizations or individuals to work together
A partnership is an arrangement between two or more groups, organizations or individuals who work together to achieve common aims or who have common interests.
Partnership is when two or more organisations work together, showing cooperation and collaboration. This can provide better care and support for service users. For example, different funds working together, instead of working individually and stressing. Another example, a social worker and the health visitor will need to work together, share ideas and use different skills to develop a support plan that will benefit children and families. This also promotes multi-disciplinary working. Partnership thus can reduce conflicts and enhance team working skills as professionals can work together, sharing responsibilities and ensuring need led approaches are met and set. This can be done by reviewing care plans and offering support.
Part One, Alliances, starts off with the importance of one-on-one relationships. The sole purpose of these one-on-one relationships, which in political terminology is known as “retail politics” can provide a personal and political awareness for the other individual’s concerns. This triggers a chance for the one who is performing the retail action the opportunity to network. Lyndon B. Johnson created the “Johnson
The department’s leadership is responsible for providing appropriate manpower and resources to each mission using an increasingly tight budget, while also following strict laws for high priority missions, such as nuclear defense, which mandate both high levels of training and manpower (Air Education Training Command, 2015). Additionally, warfare technology has become incredibly advanced. Due to this complication, the educational and technical requirements for military service members and employees are steadily increasing.
Leadership theories in and of themselves carry negative and positives characteristics. Within the various theories lie strengths and weaknesses that when applied to complex problems can highlight each one respectively. As I examine a few theories, I will look at the strengths and weaknesses of each and determine when and with which situation would these theories best be utilized. Collective leadership or distributive leadership, and leader-member exchange are both theories that incorporate specific team or group mentalities.
For the majority of American workers, the ultimate mission of their employer is to make a quality product, with the ultimate goal of making a profit. For my employer, the Department of Defense (DOD), the mission, “is to provide the military forces to deter war and to protect the security of our country” (About the Department of Defense, 2015). Having employees that understand how they contribute to the mission, vision, and goals of the DOD is taught from day one. With the ultimate responsibility of taking life, strong core values are also of high importance. Each component of the DOD create their own statements of how to complete their specific area of responsibility in the DOD mission. For the Air Force, each section all the way down to individual units, develop their own statements on how they fit into the overall mission. The following paragraphs will discuss the Technical Order Home Office’s, core values, mission, vision, goals, structure of the unit, and how the key leaders contribute to the overall success of the Air Force and the DOD.
For this assessment, the industry is defined as the handful of top business schools within the world that provide elite MBA degrees to Executives.
Leadership development plan is only practical like the theories behind the idea. Basically, before a person plan, one must know and understand the mission to be accomplished. Good theories are significant and logical and important to comprehend that many accepted leadership principles are difficult to integrate an actionable behavior. A leadership plan helps in understanding and enhancing to lead organizations, employees and groups. The most valuable skill for a leader is the capacity to manage their individual learning. A highly motivated and principled person can attain a great degree of understanding, when they form a leadership plan. The document needs to be written down and be accessible and accommodate new insights. Preparation of a leadership plan has to take into consideration the first plan being a rough draft.
From leadership theories and observations and my personal experiences, I found that leadership is a life learning process and best practices of leadership skills. Surprisingly, the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) points out that informal development opportunities, such as training, are responsible for only 10 percent of the actual learning in leadership development, and ninety percent of learning for leadership development is achieved in formal settings, mainly in everyday job activities such as development assignments and challenging tasks and interpersonal interactions at work, such as networks and mentoring relationships. Cronin and Genovese (2009) insist that what is required in leadership are three things: practice, practice, and practice. Mastery, however, requires more.
As military members we are educated to think very linearly about strategy. For many years we have been trained to have a strategic thought process based on the use of a methodology that espouses three major steps: Ends (Objectives), Ways (Strategic Concepts), and Means (Resources). (Barber 1997)
Partners may provide the strategic alliance with resources such as products, distribution channels, manufacturing capability, project funding, capital equipment, knowledge, expertise, or intellectual property. The alliance is cooperation or collaboration which aims for a synergy where each partner hopes that the benefits from the alliance will be greater than those from individual efforts. The alliance often involves technology transfer (access to knowledge and expertise), economic specialization, shared expenses and shared risk.
