Gerry, Richard and Scholes (2011) defines strategy as the long term direction of an organization. Thus, the long-term strategy of University of Aberdeen (AU) is to be the leading universities of the world as seen in their ambition statement.

All universities have one primary purpose: to provide a higher education to its students. However, between any two universities there are some considerable differences in academics, campus size, and even athletics. Two such establishments are Mississippi State University and the University of Alabama.

Now all types of institutions - public and private, two year and four year, non-profit and for-profit-are vying for the same pool of students, public funding, research grants, and prestige. In the process they are creating a fierce competition that is slowly chipping away at higher education’s commitment to servicing public needs. (Couturier, 2005, p. 87)
The United Kingdom is well known for it’s excellent reputation when it comes to education and that’s why it’s a lot of international student’s first choice. Moving away from their hometowns to study in the UK can be a wonderful opportunity, yet a challenging experience all at the same time. There are numerous problems that they face as it differs from one student. Other than the obvious language barriers, they may experience culture shock as they may be coming from countries on the other side of the world. They may also experience homesickness, and financial problems. Nevertheless it’s possible to find solutions to these difficulties and to adjust to these following problems and enjoying a wonderful education experience abroad.
Strategy refers to the plan or action taken to achieve organizational goals. When Ellen took over Tufts-NEMC, the hospital was struggling with payroll and scale. Ellen had to focus on meeting payroll, a short-term strategy, and could not focus entirely on the longer term. She took some immediate measures to help cut cost
Strategic planning can dictate the success of any organization if properly planned as well as the failure of an organization if not implemented as planned. Strategic planning is all about making choices. It is a process designed to support leaders in being intentional about their goals and methods. Simply stated, strategic planning is a management tool, and like any management tool, it is used for one purpose only—to help an organization do a better job. This portion of the strategic plan will explain why an
Higher education attainment is one important parameter of national competitiveness in today’s increasing global world. Compare to 1990, today, the rank of U.S. in the world in four-year degree attainment dropped from the 1st to the 12th. Therefore, President Obama set a new goal for the United States to be first in the world again in college attainment by 2020, in order to remain global competitive, and fulfill the needs of the growing new jobs which requires more education of the new economy (The White House, n.d.).
Chandler (1977) believes strategy is about using the necessary recourses so the organizations are able to carry out their long-term goals and aims. Which relates to Johnson (1987, pp. 4-5) who states, “Strategic decisions occur at many levels of managerial activity and will be concerned with the long-term direction”.
In his article, “The Fall and Rise of Strategic Planning,” Henry Mintzberg (1994) provides his views on the process of strategic planning. He offers that most companies and organizations start a strategic planning process with little understanding of the definition or actual purpose of planning. He tends to admonish much of the conventional understanding concerning strategic planning and proposes his interpretations. He states that “the most successful strategies are visions, not plans” (Mintzberg, 1994, p. 107).
Strategic Planning is one of the most fundamental factors in the success of an organization. This research project will discuss the importance of strategic planning as well as the different components of strategic planning. Many organizations fail to accomplish their goals and tasks due to the lacking of strategic planning. In order for their businesses to be successful, organizations need to be well informed about how the strategic planning process works.
The strategic management is actually defined as the process in which an organization actually formats and also implements the plans which espouse the objectives and goals of that organization (Diana Wicks, 2011). The process of the strategic management is continuous and it changes with the evolution of the organizational goals and objectives.
The main objective of this assignment was to conduct an analytical review of the current literature, which involved a comprehensive view of the article’s strengths and weakness towards higher education in the country of Argentina and Finland. After, reading the article I found several interesting procedures implemented in each countries approach in fully meeting their own individual expectations.

Johnson, Wittington, Scholes, Angwin and Regnér (2014, p. 3) defines strategy as ‘the long-term direction of an organisation’.
