In Taylor Swift’s music video for “Look What You Made Me Do”, we see a different side of Taylor. We no longer see the pretty little white girl from Pennsylvania who played the guitar, but rather instead something the complete contrary. A good girl gone bad. It seems as though she has embraced this new image in hopes to be reborn again as Miley Cyrus was. Well, at least that is how it might appear to the mass majority of us anyways. Whereas, the rest of us know that this is just merely a temporary ploy for her to gain a larger fan base in the world.
Taylor Swift is an artist known by many for her gentle and sweet nature. She is someone that most parents would not have a problem with their youngest of children listening to. She sang about the

Swift’s newfound spice is exactly what her fans were craving. But, does this “spice” really compliment who Taylor Swift truly is? We know the real Taylor, and so does she. She has simply become lost in the industry. For example, looking at the mass majority of her music videos and lyrics you see a down-to-Earth Southern girl that just wanted to be heard. People do not just change in the matter of months.
In the song, the line “look what you made me do” insinuates that she did not make this transition on her own. She did it as a result of someone else. Another line that suggests this thought is “The role you made me play”. This basically tells us that she is indeed playing this bad girl “role”. This is not permanent though. It is just for the publicity I must give her credit she is a decent actor and almost had me convinced.
The bottom line is that this is not the Taylor Swift of old. The music video for “Look What You Made Me Do” is not an accurate portrayal of her character and should be taken with a grain of salt. She is just trying to give the fans what they want to see and hear, but we know the real
Whether or not she wants to be, Taylor has proven herself to be a very devoted person to what she feels is important or to
This song is all about Taylor convincing her crush that she is better for him than his current girlfriend. In this line, Taylor mainly talks about the boy’s current girlfriend and all the qualities that make it sound like she’s wrong for him. In this part of the song she mainly uses pathos to sway the judgement of the boy and more importantly, her fans listening to the song. Pathos is very important when trying to convince people because humans tend to concentrate on the emotional aspect of things. Especially when it comes to music. Using pathos, Taylor is able to stir up negative emotions about the complaining girlfriend right at the beginning of the song. At the last part of the line, she also uses pathos to show the contrast between her
We have no idea what actually happened between her and Katy Perry. I didn’t realize you had to live and breathe feminist ideology and get along with every woman on earth. She and Nicki Minaj get along fine, Nicki herself has said how much she loves her. Beyonce and Jay Z are her friends. Yes, she’s said some things that sounded entitled. SHE APOLOGIZED. SHE ADMITTED SHE WAS WRONG. Yes, she’s written songs with homophobic (one song, from her first album when she was 16) and slut-shaming lyrics, but she hasn’t released a song like that in over 5 years and has apologized many times for all of it. Yes, she said there’s “special place in hell for women who don’t help other women” because Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made a comment while hosting an award show. Yes, it was a joke. Taylor could have ignored it or responded better to it, but it happened to be during the height of her media scrutiny and she was just fucking tired of people making jokes. How would you feel if every news outlet was making you out to be some psycho serial dater? You’d probably say something you shouldn’t have either. PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES. SHE’S A HUMAN BEING, and she’s not perfect. Also, PEOPLE CHANGE. People learn. 5 years ago I thought slut shaming was okay. I was racist and homophobic. Now I KNOW BETTER, and I can guarantee Taylor does too, otherwise she wouldn’t have admitted she was wrong. She identifies as a feminist. She supports equality for all people. That’s what feminism is. She’s extremely influential to girls all over the world. There are probably girls out there who are identify as feminists now only because Taylor Swift does. It encouraged them to be as well. She tells her fans that they’re beautiful because all people are beautiful and that they are not defined by someone else’s opinion of them. She has
She is a 10 time Grammy award winner, and among the five artists to ever win a Grammy for album of the year she is the only female to ever win more than once. Her hit song “You Belong with Me” resonated with millions of young girls many of which connected with the lines “If you could see/ That I’m the one /Who understands you/ Been here all along/ So why can’t you see/ You belong with me”. She turns ordinary teenage girl experiences into fresh country and pop songs. She grew up fascinated by music which led to her success as a Country/Pop artist. She constantly strives to make sure that her fame does not get in the way of her truly being herself. Taylor does not read into any of the articles about her in magazines to avoid getting caught up in all the gossip that publicity spreads about her. Taylor has made a huge impact on music industry, from selling out Madison Square Garden, to record breaking songs and albums. Award winning singer and song writer Taylor Swift, is still forming her legacy as she continues to make history in the music industry, while garnering a large fan base worldwide.
Taylor Swift, a pop icon and polarizing figure, is often known for her empowering music, feminist attitude, and meaningful lyrics. Many of her fans praise the feminist messages some of her songs deliver, however others say she comes from a position of privilege and only advocates for white women. Still, a common perception of Swift is that she has evolved from an innocent country singer into a more controversial and sometimes provocative pop singer. What is ignored though, is that despite this perception, themes depicted in “old” Taylor’s music still displayed highly problematic concepts about gender, just in less obvious ways. Particularly in her music video for “You Belong With Me,” the audience if presented with a fulfilling love story involving a nerdy girl getting the popular. On its surface, this concept may seem normal, but the narrative of this video unintentionally conveys significant gender issues in today’s society. Thus, through her 2008 music video for “You Belong With Me,” Taylor Swift ironically presents herself as the ideal nerdy girl next door who gets the guy when she suddenly turns beautiful while demonizing a cheerleader, revealing problematic notions of how women are supposed to look and behave in society, as well as reinforcing negative female stereotypes.
In the song ‘Blank Space’ by Taylor Swift it talks about the media's perception of a person and how they can manipulate it and turn it into something else. In the song Taylor plea’s when she say’s” I can make all the tables turn rose garden filled with thorns keep you guessing like “oh my god, who is she?” implying that with her façade she can manipulate people. An example of satire she used in her song was “Love's a game, wanna play?” showing humor in what love has become to or what it can turn into. In the end money and fame can make you or break you emotionally and socially.
Taylor Swift likes to invoke a lot of emotion into her music and includes several things she has experienced in her life. One major recurring theme in her songs is love.
Additionally, Taylor references to her reputation a bunch in the music video. Ironically, her new album, including ‘“Look What You Made Me Do” and “Ready For It” will be called reputation. On the other hand, she also mentions her reputation throughout the music video whether on her shirt on or a cut up airplane. Showing how badly she is trying to change her reputation, whether for better or for worse, no one is quite sure yet.
Recently, 24- year old country singer/popstar Taylor Swift released a music video “Shake it Off” which was I sort of introduction to her newest album 1989. The video received some backlash for it was seen by many as offensive, and stereotypical to African American Culture. In the video Swift dresses in what some may consider Hip Hop attire, attempts to “twerk” and even has a section where she partially sings as well as raps. She even uses talks about
In this new album "Everybody here was someone else before,” is the first track song in Swift's album which talks about how everyone is someone fake for the moment or they turn into something they were not before. This switch in genres has showed a more mature side of Taylor swift and has made her album specially different
Or perhaps the real artist, Taylor Swift’s purpose is to show the audience how ridiculous is the media image that has been created on her. It is a warning for both boys and girls, primarily those who are hoping to attract love from boys that love is perpetuated by its tortuousness. It is painful if boys will lose interest, that is Swift’s warning. The song revolves around a message for girls: do not be a daydream dressed like a daydream; do not be a nightmare dressed like a nightmare; do not find out what kind of a girl he wants and be like that forever, do not be heaven, do not be nice, do not be magic, never be too plain or perfect and good. You can also add torture to love and bring darkness to light, it is all about the
Thesis statement: Taylor Swift is one of the most successful female artists in the world who portrays her personal experiences through her music.
Taylor Swift also had set 1989 secret session and promote and meet her fans(Randy Lewis). Taylor Swift has also try's to reblog and tweet her fans as much as possible. Her fans can relate to her lyrics like she is speaking to them."Someday I'll be big enough so you wont hit me and all your ever gonna be is mean" Taylor swift lyric from mean. Which she is telling her fans that even though someone picking on you, its okay one day you will be bigger than them. Her lyrics are inspiring and motivating, but of course you will have people who say "all she does is writes about her exes" .This is not
In musical superstar Taylor Swift’s music video for her song “Blank Space,” she is portraying herself as the high maintenance and dramatic girlfriend that the media believes she is. The speaker of this text is the media’s perception of Taylor Swift and her message is about the disconnect between who Swift really is and who the media sees her as. I believe Swift has two purposes for this music video. One is for her character in the music video to warn her audience about the type of love that boys want, and the other for real life Taylor herself to poke holes into the media’s concept of her love life. The video is filled with satire and paradoxes to convince us that our idea of Taylor Swift is not an accurate opinion of her.
For my Taylor Swift assignment, I took very detailed notes on the music video to try and help me get a good idea of exactly what was going on. I then decided to have my main focus on the dark spots on Taylor Swifts career. I decided to focus on these because most of the music video focused in on her past and how it has changed her to be a new person. In the video, there was also reference to taboos which I explained in my writing. I was very confident on this paper and decided not to revise for that reason.
