The club is a three story home that has a Chop Suey restaurant in the basement. It was a really nice parlor, with pictures covering the walls and no gambling allowed. The Club was a place that performers could come to. There was something a bit unusual about the Club. It was a place where both blacks and white come to. The narrator states that some people come to research how African Americans act therefore they can perfect their “dark characters”.
Nick: He is 14 years old. A half-Japanese boy who is more of a follower, not a leader. He was riding in a packed black Mercedes on the way to a wedding when he died with chocolate on his face; now he is stuck in formal clothes and a chocolate covered mouth for eternity. .[3]

Throughout history disabled bodies have felt discrimination against able bodies because of the negative stigmas people give them. Nick simply tried to keep going on as a non judgemental person, but the changes happened so sudden that he hardly noticed he had changed. “ Disgusted with the meaninglessness of this sophisticated society, he vows to return to his roots and ponder the lies of the American Dream. “ There was a point where Nick did change his roots and became a different person as the story went on. As Sol and Alex bond over music, Alex learns that Sol wasn't always the cranky old man he as he is currently presented. Before one can learn, one must be confused. It’s no surprise that a coming of age character starts out naïve and inexperienced. When Nick first introduces himself, he appears very innocent. “In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice,” he says. “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had” (Fitzgerald 1). Nick naively claims that he is a man
Now that Gary is getting older, he has taken an intrest in girls and is finding the need to impress them. Like how he said, first impressions are important, and he knew that no girl would talk to a childish, immature guy. He started being polite by closing his mouth when he wasn’t talking, keeping a straight posture, and listening to others. Gary morphed from a boy who liked to create his own bike brake to a teenager who wanted to impress girls. His personality matures as he becomes more attentive of others and this stage really indicates him “coming of the age.”
To begin with, because Nick is merely another character in the unfolding tragedy readers can never see into
you have a very special thing with your mum” (65). Kwan scatters these hints throughout his novel to show an unambiguous contrast between the people in Nick’s world and the people in Rachel’s world. Nick claims, “We are more formal with each other, and we don’t really discuss our emotional lives at all” (65). While this sort of dynamic is more dedicated towards professional relationships, not personal ones.
When people have a disability it is life changing for them. They cannot just flip a switch and turn it off; most times it is a permanent ordeal. Participating in this experience opened my eyes even more to specifically what disabled people go through on a daily basis.
The next interaction Nick has is with his friend Bill in "The Three Day Blow". The two spend the entire time drinking while Nick questions his decision to break up with Marjorie. "The Three-Day Blow" can also represent a time in Nick's life when only the most important things in his life are necessary. For Nick and Bill, the important thing to remain is their masculinity, including their love of sports. For him to become a tough, manly man, Nick needs to "blow" his emotions about Marjorie out of his system. Bill tries to convince Nick that he made the right decision in not wanting to get married. This is Nick's struggle to decide if he wants to be a "man's man", or a "family man". He is trying to decide what type of person he wants to become, and whether that life includes marriage, love, and domesticity. Instead of continuing to think this through, Nick and Bill
