Looking into Facebook: Social Media Since 2004, Facebook has been one of the best popular sites to become a member of. They have made it very simple to sign up with just a valid email so you can enjoy the great experience. Even though social media was not as popular as it was today, it has made a tremendous growth in society. Today, we have sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc, that allow us to observe the actual interaction between members. Since technology has expanded, we also have quick access to Facebook through our phones or tablets and that is because of the unlimited use of Wi-Fi being available at many places, such as McDonald’s. It is almost impossible to not be able to use Facebook on the go. Sociologist, Herbert Blumer, would claim that social media can serve great purposes while being applied to symbolism, which is the act of showing interest without any verbal communication. Another sociologist, Erving Goffman, would state that Facebook has different characters and observers that pay closely attention to the person behind the screen verses the person editing a status or post. Mark Zuckenberg is often given credit for creating such a great website for individuals to interact with one another and share common interest with other users around the world.
