The play I am writing about is Romeo and Juliet. This play is by William Shakespear. The character I decided to write about is Lord Capulet. Lord Capulet is the father of Juliet. He Is also an enemy to Romeo's father Benvolio Montague. Capulet didn't want Juliet to marry anyone with the exception of Paris. Juliet wanted to marry her beloved Romeo. Capulet did not agree upon Juliet marrying Paris when Paris first asked him. He then reconsiders after the death of his nephew and decides marriage would not have been a bad idea. Juliet did not want to marry Paris. Her father gave her an option to marry Paris or to leave his home and be on the streets. Capulet then starts arranging everything for the wedding. Lord Capulet wanted his daughter to
This does not allow Juliet to make her own decision. An example of this is when Lady Capulet reinforces the plan in which Paris would be Juliet's husband, rather than letting Juliet choose who she marries. Lady Capulet speaks for Juliet when she says “marry, my child, early next Thursday morn.” Having little to no knowledge aforetime about this news, Juliet is utterly astonished. Lady Capulet continues by saying “[the] young and noble gentleman, the county Paris... shall happily make thee there a joyful bride” (III.v.112-115). After having already prepared her life with Romeo, Juliet is in disbelief that her mother would not attempt to step into her father's plan. Juliet lashes back at her mother by saying “I will not marry yet” and threatening that she would marry Romeo “whom you know I hate” rather than Paris (III.v.115-122). The lack of communication between the two characters makes them distant from one another, and the little effort provided by Lady Capulet to approach her daughter is the main reason for this occurrence. The control Lady Capulet has over different characters and her
Lady Capulet, mostly known for being Juliet’s mother, is the wife of the rich patriarch of the Capulet family, therefore, she is high up in the aristocracy. Their family have specific ways in which they must carry themselves. Lady Capulet is never seen exhibiting any behavior that could be misconstrued as inappropriate, and is always worried about what others will think. For example, as woman who herself married young, is very eager for her daughter to marry Paris, a kinsman of the Prince. Her only wish is for her daughter to fulfill her duty as a woman in the Elizibeathen Era, which is basically to marry someone of high social status and with a large amount of money. If Juliet were to not be married or if it were to a lowly man, she would
Capulet announcing that Juliet will get married to Paris added more stress to Juliet than she already had. Juliet had been hiding a secret marriage and was expected to get married again. Juliet acts desperate
Quotation 9: “Ay, sir, but she will none, she gives you thanks./ I would the fool were married to her grave.” (Rom. 3. 5. 144-145) Translation: I did (inform her that we decided she is going to be married). But she is having none of it.
In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare presents many different aspects of Lord Capulet's personality in a wide variety of ways.
In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Lady Capulet and the Nurse are responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because Lady Capulet is pragmatic and the Nurse is irresponsible.
Paris wants Juliet to marry him. Capulet says Juliet is too young, but gives Paris permission to marry Juliet. She does not feel the same love for him. Capulet tries to convince her that Paris is a good husband, but she does not want him.
Lord Capulet had hope that Juliet would marry Paris and bring great honor to her family as well as keep money in the family, she however decided she would marry Romeo. Said by Lord Capulet after Juliet refuses to marry Paris,” Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch!”(3.3.161). If Lord Capulet would have listened to Juliet's preferences she would be alive.
Oh, but she was a beauteous young soul Juliet! A once docile, imprudent, tumultous, devoted, intellectual Capulet! As beautiful as a cascading waterfall upon the break of dawn, drenching those who sought her hand with crisp, rejuvenating love, and as serene and elegant as a swan. The moon's sacred light possessed her entrancing features; illuminated her jovial eyes, illuminated her jovial eyes, enchanted her gentle lips, brightened her blushing cheeks, and made her voice an aurora of harmonious tones. She carried a ray of smooth silky moonlight with her wherever she went; cool starlight danced upon her brow, and as she passed by, the nipping winter's night became the purest spring day, teeming those who surrounded her with hope lik a prisoner's
Romeo and Juliet was a poem written by William Shakespeare which is a story of two families that are rivals and deeply despise each other, The families are the Montagues and The Capulets, Juliet is part of the Capulets and Romeo is a part of the Montagues. One day Romeo’s friend Mercutio, suggests that they crash (attend) the party that the Capulets are holding to celebrate the upcoming marriage of Juliet and the husband that her parents selected. Mercutio and Romeo go to the party and Romeo is hurt because his recent “girlfriend” is difficult and Mercutio suggests that he should just leave her and find another girl; They arrive at the party and Romeo Immediately notices a girl dancing, and she happens to be Juliet, he walks up to her and starts to flirt with her, not knowing that she is a Capulet, they
Verona—The century-old Capulet-Montague feud took to the streets of Verona as what started out as a minor altercation on Saturday Morning between the two households quickly escalated into a violent brawl.
The Capulet parents forced Juliet to marry Paris. When talking about Juliet, Lady Capulet say “Marry, my child, early next thursday morn / The gallant, young, and noble gentleman, / The county Paris, at Saint Peter's Church / Shall happily make thee there joyful bride.” (III.iiiii.117-120). Juliet’s parents did not take her feeling into consideration. Juliet did not want him at all, she wanted Romeo. Her parents should've known that she would rebel because she told them that she was not ready to get married and when someone does not want to do something sometimes the only choice is to rebel. Also, if Paris was not in the picture Juliet would not have felt as rushed as she did to take the poison. She could have thought about her decision more if her parents were not forcing him on her. While there may be some reasons to support the other side, the other side is incorrect because her parents cared about her very much and even without Paris the same ending most likely would have happened. When Lady Capulet was talking to Juliet she said “Marry, that “marry” is the very theme / I came to talk of. -Tell me, daughter Juliet, / How stand your [disposition] to be married?” (I.iii.68-70). By asking her her opinion is shows that her parents care about her thoughts. They wanted to see her somewhat happy so they
He changes his thoughts about the relationship between Paris and Juliet. When he first speaks to Paris, regarding Juliet’s marriage, he says it is her choice, but later on in the story, he demands that Juliet marry Paris (I.ii)(III.v). This change could cause Juliet to be upset with her father for forcing her to marry someone she does not want to. In addition to changing his mind, Lord Capulet gets angry with Juliet. He particularly says he will disown her, saying “Get thee to church o’ Thursday, Or never after look me in the face” (III.v). This statement illustrates how Juliet could feel unloved and extremely hurt. Lord Capulet has a strong influence in the death of Romeo and
The Capulet is the reason for romeo and Juliet tragedy. To start, the feud between the Capulet and the Montague caused Romeo and Juliet to end their story tragically.“My only love, sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! prodigious birth of love it is to me that i must love a loathed enemy”(1018).
This is a play written by William Shakespeare called Romeo and Juliet. It takes place in Verona and there is a long ongoing beef between the house of Capulet and the house of Montague. This play begins with Samson and Gregory of house Capulet. They are walking through a public place making snarky remarks and jokes about Montague men and sexual innuendos about Montague women. Abraham and Balthasar of house Montague then enter which causes Gregory and Sampson to prove them. Sampson says “...I will bite my thumb at them/ which is a disgrace to them if they bear it.” ( I.i.40-41). This causes them to argue which then escalates into a fight. Benvolio, of house Montague, enters to try to break up the fight. Tybalt of house Capulet also enters to
