As the echoes whispered around me. The Lord of the Flies will have his revenge on those who killed him. He told me this. I watched them. I watched them as they did it. Jack and the hunters and their spears. They provoked a pig. They threatened it. They killed it. They stabbed it, even though it was dead. It still haunts me. What happened to order, power and survival. None of us are savages, instead boys, regular English schoolboys. This has gone too far it must letup immediately. I didn’t think the situation was diabolical until The Lord of the Flies started speaking to me through the pig's head. He explained that he was punishing us for Jack and the hunters arrogance. This means, it is necessary I leave the choir boys or I could be subject
“When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice–you may know that your society is doomed”(Rand). This was stated by Russian-American novelist Ayn Rand; the extract relates to the novel William Golding wrote called Lord of the Flies. Golding wrote about a group of schoolboys trapped on an island from a plane crash. The boys had to figure out how to survive without grownups. Trying to survive was difficult because they had to have common sense and order. They lose those traits throughout the book which resulted in selfishness and corrupt behaviors.
Ralph had stopped smiling and was pointing into the lagoon. Something creamy lay among the ferny weeds. “A stone.” “No. A shell.”
(Law and Order) "We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English, and the English are best at everything. So we've got to do the right things." (Golding 42)
Jack: “So this is a meeting to find out what’s what. I’ll tell you what’s what. You littluns started all this, with the fear talk. Beasts! Where from? not only the littluns, but my hunters sometimes—talk of a thing, a dark thing, a beast, some sort of animal. I’ve heard. You thought not, didn’t you? Now listen. You don’t get big animals on small islands. I’ve been all over this island. By myself. If there were a beast I’d have seen it. Be frightened because you’re like that—but there is no beast in the forest
People are controlled by Society in many ways, such as the clothes they wear, and the music they listen to. It all depends on the society. The way people are controlled by society is by the rules that are made, like when Sam n’ Eric became traders it was a rule that they could not leave Jack’s tribe. With the bad society the boys are in on the island, When Piggy gets knocked off the cliff and died the boys were not upset, they were angry and continued to try and kill each other. Since there are no adults on the island they have to take care of themselves which turns into them trying to hunt and kill each other.
The young boys are all alone and scared on the uninhabited island. They begin to get hungry, which means they will need to hunt. Jack gathers his group of followers and heads into the forest with weapons. They come across a sow who is
I was walking when suddenly I heard a voice behind me shout, “Hi! Wait a minute!” Before I continue… I should probably tell you about where I am. I believe I’m on an island. I’m not sure though? Oh I’m Ralph though. I am from Britain. I wrote this with my blood and some leaves well stranded on this island. Anyways I got side tracked where did I leave off. Ohh yeah this boy was following me. He was shorter than an average boy, very fat, glasses, and asthma. He kept following me which was ANNOYING. The boy has this crazy idea that we are trapped here. Frankly I don’t believe him. I kept walking toward nowhere well the boy trugs along behind me slowly. I still have yet to know the annoying boy’s name. I notice in front of me water. I started to run foreword excited to get in the water.
CHAPTER EIGHT Literary Device "'If you hadn’t called it I should have. You just blew the conch…' ' Oh, take it! Go on—talk!' Ralph thrust the conch into Jack’s arms…"
Lord of the flies? Flies dominate. Flies control. I am not the Lord, the flies are my Lord, and to them I would give the whole of my essence. My secret desire is to experience a swarm embrace me in their buzzing miasma, to fill my ears and mind with their intoxicating song. I wish for their hum to envelop me in its warmth, to taste their little antennae as they buzz into my orificesy z. I need help i need h orgy porgy orgy porgy with the flies assimilate me daddy beelzebub is the only lord. Piggy is a sex god look at his glasses oh my fucking god hnnnnnnggg. Jack took his massy spear and hunted down Ralph with a savage gleam in his eye. The grass quivered as he slipped through it, unseen to Ralph’s naive eyes. The pre-pubescent boy’s scrawny
I was just playing with the little-uns you see. They are the best at playing boar. If they get hurt, what that matter. It's not like do anything useful anyway. We tried to get Ralph to play with us, but he was too busy sulking in the corner. He said that our boar-game is dangerous and someone could get hurt. Pfft! He's starting to sound more like Piggy every day.
Sukhi Mahadevan Tanner McClelland English 10H 27 Feb. 2024. LORD OF THE FLIES ESSAY All humans are evil at their core, even the most civilized, orderly, mature ones. This evil is something which some act upon, and some don’t- but the capacity to kill, or steal, or to do the most malicious things exists within every single human being. This can be seen when humans are placed in dire situations, stranded somewhere acting barbaric, disguised as them acting on “survival instincts”.
When I was a small boy, I remember one summer's day I caught a butterfly in a jam jar. I sat in a cow pasture at the rear of our house and watched the tiny creature try to escape. It was a cabbage white, and the hum of its wings as it hit the glass echoed throughout the field that hot afternoon. I took a great pleasure, as small boys do, in knowing I had control over the insects fate. I left it in the jar while I ate lunch, and on my return it was dead.
As I boarded the ship alongside the others a flood of emotions came over me. I didn’t know it was possible to feel so many at once. Joy, anger, confusion and misery; but most of all disappointment. I am disappointed in how we acted, turning against one another, and how we lost control of our ability to act in a civil manner. Disappointed that we couldn’t come together in unity to survive. I looked over at Jack and his hunters, Jack shot a nasty glare at me. I couldn’t bring myself to glare back. I realized that I am just as guilty and savage as he is; I am no different. I didn’t deserve to be here, none of us did. We acted recklessly and viciously like wild animals. I thought of Piggy and his innocence, if any of us deserved to be here it was him.
Sometimes whats ideal in a situation is not what the truth of the situation and can cause your ideals to be lost. In William Golding’s novel, “Lord of the Flies”, he demonstrates a shift in some of the characters from the thought of idealism to the reality and truth of the world. Ralph is a good example of this shift, he starts out thinking the island will be a fun place and they’ll have fun waiting to be rescued, but soon he realizes that there is going to be more hardship and struggles to keep up the moral and hope of rescue. In the book Ralph wanted to keep everyone safe and get them off the island, but Jack wants to be a leader and messes up his plans, making it so that Ralph is alone in his plan to get rescued.
In William Golding’s novel, The Lord of the Flies, a large group of privileged English schoolboys are stranded on an island in the Pacific with no adults after the plane they were on crash-landed. The boys are brought together by the Conch that is blown by Ralph in the beginning of the book. The conch is symbolic of order and authority in the book. The boys go under a transformation of these privileged schoolboys to a group of rag tag savages trying to kill each other for power throughout the course of this book. This essay will be outlining the transition from good boys that listen to authority, into boys that rely on their id of savagery, and the descent to evil, destruction and panic through the journey and
