In Lord of the Flies, Golding portrays the society in the novel as a selfish society. His message about society is that selfish and unthoughtful people make societies difficult to live in. He wants to educate us about society because the conflicts presented in the novel occur in our everyday lives. For Golding, society is selfish because of the way people act, think and express themselves as we see the boys behaviour changing drastically.
First of all, societies strive from the actions made by people when these actions are beneficial to the general population. However, selfless actions are usually never made and affect societies negatively. For example, Golding 51 “ We want meat.”. When the boys were attempting to create civilization is

During the course of the book many incidents occurred that portrayed the thinking of selfish people. For example, Golding chapter 5 “…fear can't hurt you any more than a dream. There aren't any beasts to be afraid of on this island... Serve you right if something did get you, you useless lot of cry-babies!” When the Littluns show fear for a beast, Jack says abusive words to them without thinking of how they would feel. By thinking selfishly, the way a society is functioning can change drastically. For instance, the boys were working in unison and in one unit Jack seeks to accomplish his own goals. By thinking for himself, Jack puts a rift between the boys and separates them into groups. When the boys began to think selfishly and had little thought, many deaths transpired. For example, Golding chapter 10 “I expect the beast disguised himself.” Due to the fear of a beast, the boys would do anything to get rid of it. However, during the storm they see a figure and attack it causing an innocent member of the group to be killed. When the boys thought selfishly and thought slightly, negative outcomes
Why do people allow their pride and selfishness to overtake their thoughts and their actions? Why do they want to look out for themselves rather than help out a group of people? They will act on their thoughts based on selfishness but not of what is right or wrong, which will eventually cause them to make decisions that affect others in negative aspects. The people around them will sometimes allow the selfish actions influence them, and change how they act and their thoughts. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, Jack’s decision making is based on his prideful and selfish thinking, which creates conflicts and hardships with the other boys, making their challenge to get back home even more difficult.
There are different ways to run a society. A society can be run by a group of leaders, a dictator, or even no leader or dictator at all! Many philosophers have different points of views on how to run a society so people can live the best life. In William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, different characters have different views on how to run a society. These views represent each of the philosophers view. Lord of the Flies is an allegory for the different philosophers’ speculations of “the state of nature.”
When a group of children become stranded on a deserted island, the rules of society no longer apply to them. Without the supervision of their parents or of the law, the primitive nature of the boys surfaces. Consequently, the boys live without luxury that could have been obtained had they maintained a society on the island. Instead, these young boys take advantage of their freedom, and life as they knew it deteriorates. Lord of the Flies is influenced by the author's life and experiences. Golding's outlook on life changes, due to his heavy involvement in W.W.II, to his current philosophy that "The shape of society must depend on the ethical nature of the individual, and not on any political system
Throughout Lord of the Flies, Golding shows his views of the inherent evil of humans. He shows how humans can be in such a savage state, practically mimicking the way of life of their prehistoric ancestors. He exemplifies this with acts of carnage carried on by the young stranded children. It all started with a slight urge to hunt down a pig and then continued on to murdering another human being. Golding shows his views best at the end of the book with the boys being rescued by a Navy crew, which would go on to war it self.
Humanity. It means a lot of things to a lot of people, every single one of us has an opinion about it. Our base for this opinion, however, comes from what we know of humanity, how it’s treated us, how it’s treated our family, how it’s treated others around us, others we don’t even know.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a classic novel and portrays just how the society surrounding us can corrupt our once pure nature No one is born a killer, no one is born with an intense compulsion to kill, the island that the boys are stranded on has a very unusual, corrupting society; A society that erodes the boys innocence through the power struggle between Jack and Ralph, readers see the transfer from innocent to savagely through the hunting and Piggy’s death.
William Golding proceeded to tell us, “No human endeavour can ever be wholly good... it must always have a cost”. Throughout Lord of the Flies, Golding reminds us that the difference between a pessimistic and an optimistic society is in the hands of the boys themselves. All of us have savagery within but it is our choice to disguise it with the help of our morals and the structure of the boys and the society around

Society is a man made system that allows humans to have an orderly life, and it is important because of its provision of betterment of the world. It is essential for the world to have an organizational system like society, considering that we would struggle to better our lives without someone to take charge or lead us. Lord of the Flies is an extraordinarily well-written novel that teaches one how to live life. When asked about the philosophy of the book, the author, William Golding, replied, "The theme is an attempt to trace the defects of society back to the defects of human nature. The moral is that the shape of a society must depend on the ethical nature of the individual and not on any political system however apparently logical or respectful." This completely exemplifies the theme of the novel. Lord of the Flies truly shows that it is not the government that determines survival, it is the sheer human nature in all of us that proves whether a society can function. A person's personality will always trump another person's because of difference
In the novel, Lord of the Flies, William Golding is able to use his outstanding writing abilities utilizing metaphors, symbolism, and other literary devices to establish a hidden message throughout the novel. The hidden message that Golding builds on is that there is a natural evil inside every human being, which is suppressed in an organized society through laws, rules, and punishment. The young boys in the novel are on an island all by themselves. There is no punishment for their actions, therefore allowing that evil to come out of most of the boys. All humans have an innate evil within them and that evil is brought out when there is a lack of civilization and consequence as seen in Simon’s murder,
“Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world there are only individuals.” The posed question is if society is controlled by people, or are people controlled by society. Some may argue that society is controlled by people, but if you step into the light is that really the case. If you were to look at society, really look at it, who is being controlled. Its not society itself, sure people affect the directions society turns, but that is a small group of people who represent societies movement and trends. People do not really affect what society truly is. Society is, as said before, a mental concept, the popular, important figures in the world are the physical representation. The world is full of unique individuals, although everyone is under influence of society. It is subconscious, but always there. These next paragraphs will express how society controls people by elaborating on three main ideas that show up in the book Lord of The Flies. Society controls our actions, we learn from society and use it to try to be in control of others, and it is always there and so we have no idea what to do apart from it.
