Gilas Pilipinas prospect Jordan Clarkson finished the game with team-high 22 points and reserve Brandon Bass scored eight of his 18 points in the final period to lead the Western Conference lowly ballclub to its 15th win in 70 games they played this season. "We were moving the ball, but a lot of it started on the defensive end," Clarkson, who went 8 for 13 from the field and connected 2 for 3 from beyond the arc, said. "We just stuck to the game plan." Finally, in the National Championship game against UCLA, he made 11 points and was responsible for 7 rebounds. Subsequently, Brewer was named to the Final Four’s All-Tournament Team.
Durant went to play for his first 50 point game, scoring 51 while against the Denver Nuggets.

On top of this NBA coach of the year Pat Riley stepped down. The Lakers started to struggle a little bit after all this but then got right back into towards the ending of the year when Magic got back on the court and paired with the big star Shaquille O’Neal. O’Neal put on a show in the semifinals in game 1 against the Trail Blazers scoring 46 points that marked the highest single game playoff score by a laker ever since Jerry West which was 53. The season after that they started off 11-0 going on a 61 season win and making it to the Western Conference Finals. Kyrie Irving was unstoppable in the paint and behind the 3-point line scoring 22 of his 42 points. He made 12 points in the paint 1 foul shot and 9 points from long range in just one quarter.
